Alyssa Farah Griffin visibly recoiled during Thursday’s broadcast of “The View,” reacting in shock to a very personal question from cohost Whoopi Goldberg.

During a conversation on an entirely different topic, Goldberg interrupted the ABC midday talk show to blurt out, “Are you pregnant?”

The conversation began with Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) and his Wednesday announcement — that he would not seek re-election due to his own advancing age — and his call for other aging elected officials to follow his lead. But after complaining at length about the “rot” that she claimed had “always been” present within the Republican Party, Goldberg turned to face Griffin.

“Are you pregnant?” Goldberg asked directly.

“No! Oh, my God, you can’t say that when my mother-in-law is here, who’s been dying for me to get pregnant,” Griffin laughed, clearly taken aback by the question.

“Why would you say that?” co-host Joy Behar asked.

Griffin appeared apprehensive, but she pressed on, asking, “Why, do I look pregnant?”

“Yes … I just got a vibe,” Goldberg said, prompting laughs from around the table. “I’m so sorry.”

The other co-hosts chimed in then, asking whether Goldberg had perceived a “glow” about their newest member — and Goldberg agreed that was what she thought she had picked up on. Griffin responded with relief that Goldberg was saying she had a “glow” rather than because her stomach was looking abnormally large.

The Republican co-host appeared open to the idea, however, saying, “I’m very open to being pregnant soon. I am not blessed to be pregnant yet. My husband and I are thinking about it.”

Her co-hosts pressed again, asking whether she was certain she wasn’t pregnant — to which Griffin replied, “I’m pretty sure,” but promised to take a test when she got home in order to rule it out.
