The decade's most triggering comedy
The 39-year-old actor told the story during a Wednesday appearance on the “This Is Important” podcast. DeVine, who recently got married to Chloe Bridges, said he and his wife saw a man “get gunned down” across from his house.
“This is a true scary thing that just happened,” the “Pitch Perfect” star said. “So across the street, they were running this like crazy poker game, right? And I see these dudes, and it’s like fun to sit and watch, [so] me and my wife, we’re sitting up on our balcony, and like, this looks crazy.”
“This is where it gets sad,” DeVine said. “Someone was murdered there.”
DeVine said he could tell something bad was going to happen that night.
“I called that s***, I called that s***,” the actor continued. “I was like ‘This is dastardly s*** going down here’ and sure enough, someone is gunned down.”
The LAPD confirmed to Fox News that the West Bureau Homicide is investigating a homicide in a location nearby DeVine’s home. They said the incident involved a 35- to 40-year-old male being shot outside a Hollywood Hills home in the early hours of June 7. The publication noted that the victim and the unidentified suspect were outside the home prior to the shooting. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The suspect produced a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking the victim,” an LAPD spokesperson said. “The suspect fled east in a vehicle and is still outstanding.”
According to a report from The New York Post, the home where the shooting took place is being rented by Tony Toutouni, a social media influencer who’s known for posting graphic images of scantily clad women and piles of cash. Neighbors claim Toutouni races his high-end cars all over the neighborhood.
The Iranian-born nightclub owner has not been charged with any wrongdoing in connection with the suspected homicide.
This wasn’t the first time DeVine had a personal experience with criminal activity in Los Angeles. In 2015, the celebrity said his new truck and gun were both stolen.
“Luckily it’s just stuff and no one was hurt, but it just sucks that I work so hard to buy cool stuff and you just steal it because you have no ambition and are too stupid to earn enough money to buy nice things,” he wrote on Twitter at the time, per TMZ.
