The host was seemingly referencing the redacted 30,000 documents related to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein released by the Justice Department just days before Christmas.
&#8220;And the award for most editing goes to CBS News,&#8221; the comedian added as the audience laughed and applauded. &#8220;Yes, CBS News, America&#8217;s newest place to see BS news. We needed another.&#8221;
This dig likely referenced CBS News, under the new leadership of Bari Weiss, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-news-pulls-60-minutes-segment-on-notorious-el-salvador-prison-needed-additional-reporting">yanking a “60 Minutes” segment</a> on the Salvadoran prison where the Trump administration has sent hundreds of illegal immigrants. Critics <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/media/5659963-bari-weiss-cbs-60-minutes-segment/">said</a> the move &#8220;reeks of political pressure.&#8221;

Glaser’s comments come one week after anchor Tony Dokoupil began hosting &#8220;CBS Evening News&#8221; and months after the network welcomed Weiss, the new Editor-in-Chief, who formerly worked at The New York Times and founded The Free Press. Weiss was offered the job by David Ellison, the founder of Skydance and Paramount&#8217;s chairman, following a merger.

I have felt this way, too. I have felt like what I was seeing and hearing on the news didn’t reflect what I was seeing and hearing in my own life — and that the most urgent questions simply weren’t being asked.”
“So here’s my promise to you,” Dokoupil continued. “You come first. Not advertisers, not politicians, not corporate interests. And yes, that does include the corporate owners of CBS. I report for you — which means I tell you what I know, when I know it, and how I know it. And when I get it wrong, I’ll tell you that, too.”

British comedian Ricky Gervais, who is well known for his iconic no-hold-barred, celebrity roasting monologue at the 2020 Golden Globes ceremony, won a coveted statuette Sunday night for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television for his Netflix special, “Morality.”
The 64-year-old Gervais was not in the audience to accept his award, but later posted about it on X, writing, “I f***ing won. Again.”
The moment of Gervais’ triumph was hijacked by Golden Globes presenter Wanda Sykes, who used Gervais’ absence to mock him.
“There’s some people pissed off that a queer black woman is up here doing the job of two mediocre white guys,” Sykes said while presenting the award, “But first I want to give them some love.”
She referenced one of the nominees, Bill Maher, by saying, “You give us so much. But I would love a little less. Just try less.” The camera panned to Maher, who appeared perplexed and was not smiling.
“Ricky Gervais, I love you for not being here,” she said while still listing nominees. “No, I love you. But if you win, I get to accept the award on your behalf, and you are going to thank God and the trans community. Oooh, Ricky!”
After Sykes announced Gervais, an atheist, had won the award, she followed through on her promise.
“He would like to thank God and the trans community,” the comedian said from the podium. “Ricky Gervais could not be here, so we’ll accept this on his behalf.”

Sykes was in a huff over jokes Gervais made in his 2022 Netflix stand-up special “SuperNature.” These included quips about “old-fashioned women… the ones with wombs.”
He also imagined a conversation with a woman who doesn’t want to share a bathroom with a “trans woman.” 
“They are ladies, look at their pronouns. What about this person isn&#8217;t a lady?” Gervais said before providing the response, “Well, his penis.”
Gervais said during an <a href="https://variety.com/2025/tv/focus/ricky-gervais-comedy-walk-of-fame-star-1236408958/">interview</a> with Variety in May that he “likes that people feel slightly uneasy” when he makes a joke. “I can justify anything. I’m never that brutal. It just seems like it.”
Sykes was one of several Golden Globes attendees wearing anti-ICE pins in protest of President Trump’s enforcement of immigration laws. Comedian Wanda Sykes didn’t mince words either, abandoning humor to call for the total dismantling of the executive branch’s enforcement arm. &#8220;We need to be out there and shut this rogue government down because it’s just awful what they’re doing to people,” Sykes told Variety. It’s a familiar refrain from the Hollywood set: characterize federal agents as &#8220;rogue&#8221; while ignoring the complex, often dangerous realities of immigration enforcement.
Jean Smart, fresh off a win for Hacks, took the stage to lean into the &#8220;citizen and mom&#8221; defense. While acknowledging that the public finds celebrity politicking &#8220;annoying,&#8221; she couldn&#8217;t resist. Smart said, “I feel like we’re kind of at a turning point in this country. I hope people can keep their heads because that’s actually, really the hardest thing, I think, is to keep our heads. It’s going to take a lot of courage and concerns, but I think that’s important.”
“I know that there are people who find it annoying when actors take opportunities to talk about social and political things, but I’m not here right now speaking as an actor. I’m here speaking as a citizen and a mom, and I hope people understand that,” she continued.
She urged the audience to &#8220;do the right thing&#8221; — a vague platitude that, in the context of her &#8220;ICE OUT&#8221; pin, clearly meant opposing the administration’s mandate.
Backed by the ACLU and various leftist &#8220;grassroots&#8221; organizers, these stars utilized their platforms to cast ICE as a source of &#8220;chaos.&#8221; As usual, the gala served as a reminder that for Hollywood, &#8220;being good&#8221; is synonymous with being anti-Trump, regardless of the facts on the ground.

Jenny McCarthy gave a definitive answer to the question of whether she’d consider returning to her spot on “The View.”
The 53-year-old celebrity was a co-host of the show from 2013 to 2014 during season 17. She discussed that experience, as well as her current feelings about the show, on a Tuesday episode of  “The Katie Miller Podcast.”
&#8220;The reason why they wanted to bring me on [originally] is because they, quote, said it was too polarizing. They thought it was too polarizing back then, you guys,&#8221; McCarthy told the podcast host. She said her inclusion was meant to add “light and fluffy and fun” content to balance out more serious topics.
&#8220;Well, that lasted a week. That lasted a whole week,&#8221; McCarthy continued. &#8220;And back then, I didn&#8217;t consider myself to be a political person, which is why I thought I was perfect for the job. After a week, when they said they wanted to get political, I was like, &#8216;Oh my God, what am I going to do?'&#8221;
&#8220;They&#8217;re like, &#8216;Today we’re going to be discussing the hostage situation and whether the United States government should pay the ransom or not. Harvey Weinstein was back in a Manhattan courtroom on Thursday morning to assess where he stands in his legal battles as another trial looms on charges of third-degree rape.
The charge stems from an allegation made by Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actress, who claimed Weinstein raped her at a New York hotel in March 2013. Weinstein has denied that claim.
Weinstein&#8217;s lawyer Arthur Aidala told Judge Curtis Farber that the 73-year-old is considering pleading guilty to that rape charge to avoid another trial, reports <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/harvey-weinstein-considering-guilty-plea-ahead-third-sex-assault-trial-rcna253040">NBC News</a>. The trial would begin on March 3 if Weinstein can&#8217;t reach a plea deal, and Mann would likely testify against the disgraced Hollywood mogul again.
“I understand that your client wants additional time to think about it,” Farber told Weinstein’s lawyer in the courtroom Thursday.
At the end of the hearing, Weinstein, who appeared frail in a wheelchair, spoke directly to the judge, admitting no wrongdoing. “I admit my moral failings, I was unfaithful and acted wrongly,&#8221; Weinstein said. &#8220;But I have never assaulted anyone.&#8221;
Weinstein was found guilty of third-degree rape of Mann in early 2020, but that ruling was overturned in 2024 by a New York state appeals court. Weinstein was then retried on the same case last year, but the jury failed to reach a verdict.
However, the jury did find Weinstein guilty of a first-degree criminal sexual act based on the claims made by a production assistant on the Weinstein-produced &#8220;Project Runway.&#8221; Miriam Haley said Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in 2006.
The mogul was acquitted of criminal sexual assault against former model Kaja Sokola.
Judge Farber threw out Weinstein&#8217;s request for a new trial in the Haley case after the defense claimed two jurors said they were pressured to convict Weinstein. The judge said, &#8220;The Court&#8217;s response to the jurors&#8217; complaints appropriately balanced the competing interests of investigating the allegations while avoiding any unnecessary taint of the deliberating jury,&#8221; per <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/harvey-weinstein-critical-hearing-grant-new-trial/story?id=129014006">ABC News</a>.
Thursday&#8217;s appearance addressed Weinstein&#8217;s web of cases. Now, he will remain in custody at Rikers Island in New York City as he weighs his options regarding entering a guilty plea to the rape charges involving Mann.

Warner Bros. Discovery has formally rejected the hostile takeover bid from Paramount amid their merger deal with Netflix, dubbing the proposed terms “inferior” to the Netflix partnership.
“Your Board negotiated a merger with Netflix that maximizes value while mitigating downside risks, and we unanimously believe the Netflix merger is in your best interest. We are focused on advancing the Netflix merger to deliver its compelling value to you,” the board wrote in a letter to shareholders Wednesday morning, per <a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/warner-bros-discovery-rejects-paramount-skydance-ellison-latest-takeover-offer-1236624282/">Variety</a>.
The letter further stated that the Paramount offer “is not more favorable to WBD stockholders than the Netflix Merger and continues to be inadequate,” because of “insufficient value, taking into account price and numerous risks, costs and uncertainties.” 
The decision to reject the bid was said to be unanimous. This was the sixth offer made and rejected by Paramount.
“The Offer is entirely at [Paramount]’s discretion – [Paramount] can reduce the price, impose new conditions, or walk away entirely at any time prior to its acceptance of tendered shares,” Warner Bros. said of the proposal.
Paramount announced their latest bid days after the Netflix deal was announced in December.
“We believe our offer will create a stronger Hollywood. It is in the best interests of the creative community, consumers and the movie theater industry,” Paramount Chairman and CEO David Ellison said in a statement at the time, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/paramount-launches-hostile-takeover-bid-for-warner-bros-days-after-netflix-deal-announced?author=Amanda+Harding&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Paramount+Launches+Hostile+Takeover+Bid+For+Warner+Bros.+Days+After+Netflix+Deal+Announced">reported</a>. 
“We believe they will benefit from the enhanced competition, higher content spend and theatrical release output, and a greater number of movies in theaters as a result of our proposed transaction.”
President Trump remarked on the Netflix deal in December, saying it “could be a problem” from an antitrust standpoint. The president also mentioned being “involved” in reviewing the deal. The proposed merger has had bipartisan pushback from skeptics who warn it could turn into a “nightmare” for consumers and creatives. 
Many critics also worry that it could destroy the theater industry, as rumors persist that Netflix will push for a shorter theatrical release window for major films. Per <a href="https://www.avclub.com/netflix-warner-bros-17-day-theatrical-amc">reports</a>, the timing could be shortened to as little as 17 days, drastically reducing the industry standard of a 30 to 45-day delay before movies arrive on streaming services.

Editor’s note: This piece discusses the finale of Stranger Things, so there are obviously going to be spoilers. Consider yourselves warned if you are, like this author, a dork and plan to watch the show.
Stranger Things concluded its fifth and final season with a two-hour New Year’s Eve release, nearly a decade after the vanishing of Will Byers launched a new era of Netflix original programming.
Expectations for the final season rose to the heavens in the four years since the fourth season of Stranger Things. Fans were almost certain to be disappointed — and boy, were they.
Initial waves of criticism gave way to a truly strange mass psychosis wherein superfans have convinced themselves that the series finale was actually a fake, and that creators Matt and Ross Duffer were waiting to drop the actual finale in the coming days.
Those of us who did not develop a parasocial relationship with Gaten Matarazzo realized this was bunk from the start. But for those really pinning their hopes to these theories, Netflix has made it clear that Stranger Things is done. The finale we got was the finale we&#8217;re going to get. And yes, there are plenty of things to criticize with that episode, as with the whole final season: the bad dialogue, the continuity errors, the lazy acting.
But I don’t want to talk about any of that. I want to talk about Steve Harrington.
The fan-favorite character has gone on quite a journey. He began as a stereotypical 1980s jock, Nancy Wheeler’s unlikable boyfriend who bristles at her intelligence and beats up the nerds. The Duffer Brothers planned to kill him off at the end of season one, but they found themselves so charmed by Joe Keery’s performance that they reversed course.
And then they did more than that: they gave Steve warmth and depth unmatched by any other character. Over the course of the show, he not only accepts Nancy’s independence but also her relationship with Jonathan Byers, one of the dorks he once beat up. He becomes a friend and mentor to the younger children, constantly putting his life on the line for their safety. And he grows close with Hawke’s character, Robin, accepting her quirkiness without a second thought.
This character development was so effective that, in the run-up to the finale, fans made it clear that Steve’s death was the outcome they most feared. Fortunately for the legions of Harringtonians out there, Steve survives his final journey to a parallel dimension and makes it safely back to Hawkins.
But that’s where things go off the rails.
In the show’s penultimate scene, we see the cadre of older Hawkins kids reminiscing on the rooftop of the town radio station. Jonathan is making anti-capitalist films at NYU. Robin is dating girls at Smith. Nancy reveals that she’s dropped out of Emerson to work as a journalist full-time, and has a girlboss haircut and blazer to prove it.
And what of Steve? Did he settle down and start having the six children he’s been so vocal about wanting? Did his repeated encounters with the supernatural inspire him to seek out a change of scenery? Or did he join up with the Hawkins police department as Hopper’s deputy, harnessing the skills he honed defending the world from Vecna?
No, while all his friends move on to bigger and better things, Steve is still in Hawkins, coaching the high school baseball team. And lest it seem like Steve’s adventures with all those plucky kids had inspired him to pursue a career in education, the finale makes it clear: this is just the path of least resistance. Steve Harrington is a loser.
As he grabs another beer in his poorly-fitting suit, his friends mock the fact that, in addition to his coaching duties, Steve is also teaching sex education. Steve gives them plenty of fodder for their ribbing, noting that he has &#8220;a strict A policy, B if you’re a real knucklehead.&#8221;
There are jokes about him cycling through a series of vapid women, so clearly his plans for domestic bliss haven’t panned out. And lest you miss the point, he delivers this sad little monologue to all his posh friends in which he expresses his utter disbelief that they would ever want to leave Hawkins!
“Come on, I mean, look at this place!&#8221; Steve bellows while looking wistfully at the horizon. &#8220;The sunset, the view. Woo! You guys are seriously telling me you don’t miss any of this? The forest, the quarry? Family Video?&#8221;
This is the most unforgivable part. We’re meant to believe that after all this time — after years of personal growth and confrontations with mortality, to say nothing of countless trips to an alternate dimension — Steve Harrington is just another hometown hero who can’t fathom why anyone would want to leave the glory days behind.
The problem isn’t that Steve didn’t want to leave Hawkins, or that he wanted to become a coach. Those are both fine choices for a young man to make, and consistent with the character we’ve grown to know and love. It’s the myopia, the pigheaded jock mentality that makes everyone roll their eyes, that feels like a betrayal. Steve doesn&#8217;t like the community or the fact that Hawkins is his home. He likes the quarry and the video store, the two lamest and most generic things you could think to name. It’s a last-second reversion to Season 1 Steve, a fundamentally uncurious brute whose gaze extended no further than the Friday night lights at Hawkins High.
To the Duffer brothers’ credit, Steve’s ending isn’t entirely inconsistent with the show’s finale. The epilogue is very John Hughes, an effective tonal shift back to the 1980s nostalgia that launched the show, vibes that played second fiddle to the supernatural in later seasons.
But the return to authentic 1989 didn’t stop the Duffer brothers from showing two openly gay characters living easy lives, or a girl graduating high school despite having spent the past two years in a coma — to say nothing of, you know, the aliens. Disbelief can be suspended, it seems, so long as it serves the narrative. And that narrative can’t countenance the jock being anything other than kind of sad.
To be clear: I don’t think this is some grand neo-Marxist conspiracy to make kids eschew small-town life in favor of more degenerate pursuits like journalism. This is just another instance of a tiresome Revenge of the Nerds mentality we see all the time among creatives.
It doesn’t matter that the Duffer Brothers created one of the most popular shows of the decade, one that largely owes its popularity to the shocking transformation of its stereotypical jock character. They probably got bullied for making home movies in high school, and so the cool guy had to be a loser in the end.
Maybe it isn’t that malicious. Maybe the Duffers really did just get lazy, and making Steve a stereotype was just one of several ways they phoned in this final season. Either way, it’s a disappointing end to the best character arc in a mostly great show.
Steve deserved better, and so did we.

Actor Tim Allen recently criticized DEI constraints on television shows, saying sitcoms need to be funny to succeed.
The 72-year-old “Home Improvement” alum made the comments during an appearance on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast on Monday. 
Allen suggested to Maher that DEI policies should not come at the expense of the show’s quality.
“My wife says, ‘Why do you keep saying that?’ And I said, ‘Somebody told me I was like the Tom Brady of sitcoms.’ When they asked me to do a third [show], I said, ‘I thought they were kidding,’” the comedian told Maher. “I don’t know whether my generation… because all the people that I know that I would make it with are either dead or not the right gender, you know, they’re all light-skinned European older men. And that doesn’t fit the DEI thing that everybody wanted. They wanted, you know, a potpourri of —”
Maher jumped in, saying one solution was to have “DEI in the cast.”
“I didn’t want to get into that. I didn’t want to patronize people. If you’re going to do a sitcom, it’s just got to be funny. You got to have some drama,” Allen went on.

The podcast host agreed, saying diversity wasn’t the “only virtue.”
“Not everything in America has to look like Angelina Jolie’s Christmas card, you know, sometimes, and it’s always OK in reverse. It’s like if there’s something where it’s just an all-black cast — and good, I’m all for it. I’m not complaining about it,” Maher continued.
The host went on to question CBS&#8217;s 2020 <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/09/cbs-reality-shows-must-now-have-50percent-non-white-casts-network-says.html">goal</a> of increasing BIPOC representation in its writers&#8217; rooms. 
“I thought, what if the show they’re writing is about a polka band in a ski town?” Maher said.
“I love people of color, and I’m so glad that things are better than they used to be for people of color, but you know, it shouldn’t intrude on the creative process to the degree it has in this town,” Maher said. “It has intruded on the creative process. And by the way, lots of people of color agree with that because they want the creative process to be pure, too.”
Allen currently stars in the CBS sitcom “Shifting Gears,” which follows a father trying to reconnect with his adult daughter. Besides appearing on the well-known ‘90s series “Home Improvement,” he also starred in the popular ABC sitcom “Last Man Standing” (2011-2017).

Actor Mickey Rourke said a GoFundMe created on his behalf was &#8220;humiliating&#8221; and that it had been set up without his knowledge. 
The 73-year-old actor shared a video on his Instagram account on Monday, expressing his feelings about the campaign to help him avoid eviction, which has raised more than its $100,000 goal as of Tuesday morning.
Rourke said he was &#8220;frustrated” and &#8220;confused&#8221; over the fundraiser and insisted it was done without his approval. &#8220;That&#8217;s not me, okay?&#8221; the Golden Globe winner said. &#8220;If I needed money, I wouldn&#8217;t ask for no f***ing charity. I&#8217;d rather stick a gun up my a** and pull the trigger.&#8221;

&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t know what a GoFundMe foundation is in a million years. My life is very simple, I wouldn&#8217;t go to outside sources like that,” he added. Rourke also called the <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-mickey-to-prevent-eviction">fundraising campaign</a> “embarrassing” and said, &#8220;There&#8217;s only one person I can think of that would do such a thing, and I hope it&#8217;s not the person I&#8217;m thinking about. It&#8217;s humiliating.&#8221;
In the video, Rourke acknowledged borrowing money from a friend when he needed it, but said he would &#8220;never ask strangers or fans or anybody for a nickel. That&#8217;s not my style.&#8221; He also urged fans not to give any money, and if they already had donated, to &#8220;get it back.&#8221;
The actor said he knew how much was raised and reiterated that he didn&#8217;t want it. &#8220;Get your money back, please,&#8221; he repeated during the video message to fans.
Rourke also admitted that he did a “terrible job” managing his career.
&#8220;I wasn&#8217;t diplomatic. I had to go to over 20 years of therapy to get over the damage that was done to me years ago. I worked very hard to work through that. I&#8217;m not that person anymore.&#8221;
The campaign was apparently started by a woman named Liya-Joelle Jones, who claimed to be the assistant to Rourke’s manager, Kimberly Hines. The GoFundMe description said it was &#8220;created with Mickey’s full permission.&#8221;

Rourke’s Hollywood career stalled after a stint in boxing, but he staged a comeback with “The Wrestler” (2008).

Actor Mickey Rourke approved the launch of a GoFundMe over the weekend to help prevent him from being evicted from his Los Angeles home.
The 73-year-old was reportedly served notice in December to pay $60,000 in back rent or vacate the premises. The fundraiser is titled “Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home” and has raised $71,506 as of Monday morning with a goal of $100,000. It was created with Rourke’s permission by his manager&#8217;s assistant and will be used for the actor’s “immediate needs and expenses.”
“Mickey Rourke entered American cinema like a force of nature—raw, fearless, and utterly original,” the GoFundMe <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-mickey-to-prevent-eviction">page</a> says. “In the late 1970s and 1980s, he wasn’t just a movie star; he was a symbol of something rare: danger paired with vulnerability, toughness paired with heart. From ‘Diner’ to ‘Rumble Fish’ to ‘9½ Weeks,’ Mickey gave audiences performances that felt lived-in, not performed, and left a permanent mark on American film culture.”
The page says Rourke has “lasting physical and emotional scars” from when he left acting for professional boxing and goes on to say he was abandoned by “the industry that once celebrated him.&#8221;
“Mickey Rourke is an icon—but his trajectory, as painful as it is, is also a deeply human one. It is the story of someone who gave everything to his work, took real risks, and paid real costs. Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability,” the page says.

Victoria Jones, the 34-year-old daughter of actor Tommy Lee Jones, was discovered dead in a San Francisco hotel room in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, according to multiple reports.
TMZ originally broke the story, <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/01/01/tommy-lee-jones-daughter-victoria-dead/">noting</a> that local law enforcement responded to a medical emergency at the upscale Fairmont San Francisco just before 3 a.m. local time. 
The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that officers responded to the call on Thursday and that paramedics declared an unnamed adult female dead. NBC Bay Area reported that the cause of death is unknown, but <a href="https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/woman-found-dead-sf-hotel/4006464/">noted</a> that foul play is not suspected.

Victoria was the daughter of the “No Country for Old Men” star and his first wife, Kimberlea Cloughley. Her brother, Austin, is 43.
She dabbled in acting when she was younger, appearing alongside her father in the popular “Men in Black II” (2002). In 2005, Victoria appeared in “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada,” which Jones directed. She had a guest appearance on one episode of the teen drama series “One Tree Hill” in 2003.
According to the New York Post, Victoria was <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/01/02/entertainment/guest-who-discovered-tommy-lee-jones-daughters-lifeless-body-thought-she-was-drunk-as-mystery-around-her-death-deepens/">arrested</a> three times in the past year for various offenses, including obstructing a peace officer, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a narcotic controlled substance, domestic battery, and domestic violence/elder abuse charges. Court records show she pleaded not guilty to all of those charges.
Jones is an Oscar-winning actor who got his start in the 1960s and became a big-time player in the 1990s after winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard in “The Fugitive” (1993). He has also appeared in other profile projects, including “JFK” (1991), the “Men in Black” franchise, “Natural Born Killers (1994), “No Country for Old Men” (2007), and Lincoln (2012), which also earned him an Oscar nomination.
The actor also earned an Emmy Award for his role as executed murderer Gary Gilmore in “The Executioner&#8217;s Song” (1982).

The year in pop culture gave us reality stars smiting governors, a Coldplay concert going viral for nothing music-related, and a pop star’s career crashing upon re-entry.
And even though late-night TV had begun to fizzle out years ago, in 2025, Stephen Colbert and co. watched their gigs finally go up in smoke.
It’s impossible to look back on the last 12 months and not gawk at late-night propagandists getting their just desserts.
For Colbert of “The Late Show” fame, that meant getting a time-release pink slip. Someone finally crunched some serious numbers behind the scenes and realized Colbert’s DNC agenda is costing CBS a pretty penny … <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/go-f-yourself-colbert-unleashes-anti-trump-tirade-amid-report-his-show-loses-40m-annually">$40 million a year</a>, to be precise.
So Colbert was forced to read his professional obituary on-air. And the show won’t even go on without him. Come May, “The Late Show” heads to the dustbin of history alongside eight-track tapes and TiVo devices.

Fellow progressive Jimmy Kimmel was spared that fate, but not by much. The ABC host insinuated MAGA nation fired the bullet that killed conservative hero Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10, setting off a series of events that led to Kimmel’s week-long suspension.
He got his job back and a tepid show of support via a one-year contract extension. The damage was done. Kimmel’s “Man Show” past and irreverent shtick is no more. Now, he’s more likely to cry on-camera than make us howl.
His only hope is that Colbert’s audience tunes in for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” come May, delaying his show’s inevitable cancellation.
On the film front, theaters once again struggled to reclaim their pre-pandemic mojo. The box office receipts looked awfully similar to 2024, hardly a golden age for theatrical attendance.
Films like “Superman,” “Thunderbolts” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” failed to duplicate that ol’ superhero magic, leaving it to video game adaptations like “A Minecraft Movie” to pick up the slack.
At least we weren’t subjected to <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/skibidi-toilet-michael-bay-movie-adam-goodman-1236077245/">“Skibidi Toilet: The Movie</a>.” Not yet, at least. 
Meanwhile, Hollywood’s far-Left agenda got a workout via “One Battle After Another.” The Paul Thomas Anderson screed so overtly progressive even some Antifa types might cry foul.
And, of course, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/is-the-best-picture-race-already-over">it’s bound for Oscar glory come March</a>.
Speaking of Oscars, 2025 saw an awards hopeful crash and burn in record time. The woke musical comedy “Emilia Pérez” seemed likely to dominate awards season until we learned some of the less-than-progressive comments made by its trans lead, Karla Sofia Gascón.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce finally made their courtship official, but the best news for football fans is that his Kansas City Chiefs missed the playoffs. That means no more obligatory “Taylor is crying/cheering/laughing” shots interrupting the NFL action.

From “The Mayor of Kingstown” to the “Yellowstone” franchise, Sheridan’s shows keep attracting A-list talent and plenty of eyeballs. And he’s positioned to strike gold again in 2026 with the release of the next “Yellowstone” spinoff, “Y: Marshals,” starring Luke Grimes.
Sheridan made headlines once again in 2025 by signing a mega-deal with NBCUniversal and having his “Landman” series skewer the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/taylor-sheridan-show-landman-mocks-the-view-bunch-of-ped-off-millionaires">“p***ed off millionaires” of “The View.”</a>

HBO Max’s “The White Lotus” became the show everyone talked about at the cyber-water cooler – AKA Elon Musk’s X. This season’s ick factor likely played a part, thanks to guest star <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/sam-rockwell-white-lotus-monologue-acting-coach-1236175014/">Sam Rockwell’s disturbing revelations</a> to that <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/the-white-lotus-brothers-kiss-season-3-1236164899/">brotherly buss</a> with Ah-nold’s son getting too much attention.
And while the culture remains hopelessly divided on political grounds, Americans did unite to mock a Coldplay concert moment that went insanely viral. A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/viral-coldplay-kiss-cam-woman-speaks-out-is-furious-with-gwyneth-paltrow">Kiss Cam caught Kristin Cabot</a> canoodling with her boss, Andrew Byron, a moment that proved inescapable for anyone remotely online.

The streamer’s signature show, a four-episode saga dubbed “Adolescence,” caught everyone by surprise. Each installment, shot in a single take, captured a young boy in the weeks following his arrest for a shocking murder. Must-see TV? Perhaps, but it left audiences feeling queasy for the next generation.
If that wasn’t enough, 2025 had us focus on the Sean Combs trial. Sure, we cracked wise about baby oil sales, but the particulars of P. Diddy’s life and alleged crimes made us wonder what else is happening behind the scenes in Hollywood that we won’t hear about for years to come?

And then there’s Katy Perry.
The “I Kissed a Girl” superstar headed into space, or at least a small part of it, via Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard rocket. The experiment became social media fodder, in part due to the “astronaut&#8217;s’” inflated sense of self.
Perry might have been better off staying in orbit. She <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/katy-perry-experiences-frightening-onstage-mishap-concert-san/story?id=123894140">experienced not one</a> but <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1420864/katy-perrys-bloody-knee-injury-photo">two</a> concert accidents, watched her choreography get roasted on social media, and capped 2025 by winning a legal victory over a <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/11/28/entertainment/katy-perry-to-receive-1-8m-payout-from-dying-veteran-in-years-long-battle-over-montecito-mansion/">dying military veteran</a>.
She’ll be lucky to Dance with Any Stars come 2026.
