President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> announced Friday that he was commuting the sentences of 2,500 drug offenders in what will be one of his final actions in office. 
Biden said that those whose sentences were commuted were “non-violent” offenders who had been given &#8220;disproportionately long sentences.” The announcement means that Biden has now handed out the most pardons or commutations of any president. 
“Today, I am commuting the sentences of nearly 2,500 people convicted of non-violent drug offenses who are serving disproportionately long sentences compared to the sentences they would receive today under current law, policy, and practice,” Biden said. “With this action, I have now issued more individual pardons and commutations than any president in U.S. history.”
He said the action was for individuals who &#8220;received lengthy sentences based on discredited distinctions between crack and powder cocaine” and “outdated sentencing enhancements for drug crimes.”
In his statement, Biden pointed to multiple sentencing laws passed by Congress, including the First Step Act, which then-President Donald Trump signed during his first term in office. 
“This action is an important step toward righting historic wrongs, correcting sentencing disparities, and providing deserving individuals the opportunity to return to their families and communities after spending far too much time behind bars,” Biden said. “I am proud of my record on clemency and will continue to review additional commutations and pardons.”

Biden previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-announces-mass-commutations-after-criticism-over-hunter-pardon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commuted</a> the sentences of 1,500 people, issued 39 pardons for individuals convicted of non-violent crimes, and gave a mass pardon for people convicted of marijuana possession. 
Biden has faced criticism over his clemency actions, including when he commuted the death sentences of 37 of 40 prisoners on federal death row, each of whom had been convicted of murder, just two days before Christmas. 
One of those whose death sentence was commuted was Thomas Sanders, who was <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/neworleans/news/press-releases/jury-imposes-death-sentence-on-a-las-vegas-man-for-kidnapping-and-murdering-a-12-year-old-girl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> in 2014 of kidnapping and murdering 12-year-old Lexis Roberts. Sanders kidnapped Roberts after he shot her mother in the head. He held Roberts captive for several days before he shot her four times, cut her throat, and hid her body in the woods. 
Biden was also sharply criticized for his sweeping pardon of his son Hunter, which came after he had previously promised not to do so.

A convicted pedophile and illegal migrant was released from a Connecticut prison last month after his sympathetic parole board mulled how to best help him avoid deportation.
The Trump administration, the parole board decided, would not be able to get its act together fast enough to deport the illegal migrant pedophile before his 30-day immigration detainer runs out. &#8220;They can&#8217;t elect a Speaker of the House,&#8221; one board member scoffed.
Guerino Magloire, 52, was <a href="http://www.ctinmateinfo.state.ct.us/detailsupv.asp?id_inmt_num=255393" target="_blank" rel="noopener">serving</a> five years in prison for felony second degree sexual assault against a child between 13 and 15 years old. He was convicted of sexually assaulting the child on March 11, 2020, just as pandemic lockdowns were starting, and he was sentenced in November the next year.
During his parole <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RluWJ6xkhQo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hearing</a> on New Year&#8217;s Eve, Magloire said he cannot promise he will not offend again.
&#8220;I can&#8217;t say I promise that it&#8217;s not going to happen because that&#8217;s not always a thing, when you say, &#8216;Oh I promise,'&#8221; Magloire told the parole board. &#8220;No, I&#8217;m not going to say I promise, but I will definitely try to do my best, my best to keep myself away from situations like that again.&#8221;
Magloire scored as a moderate to high risk on an evaluation <a href="https://www.sog.unc.edu/sites/default/files/course_materials/3.0%20Static-99R-Coding-Form_0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">used</a> to predict whether a male sexual offender will reoffend.
Despite those red flags, the parole board released him that day from Carl Robinson Correctional Institution north of Hartford.

Magloire is in the country illegally. He came to the United States from Haiti in 1984 when he was 11 and currently has an immigration detainer, meaning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is ready to deport him as soon as he is released from prison.
His parole board lamented the situation. The board <a href="https://portal.ct.gov/bopp/bopp_front-_pages/common-elements/about-us/meet-the-parole-board" target="_blank" rel="noopener">included</a> two women, Rufaro <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/rufaro-berry-a1316b144/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Berry</a> and Deborah Smith-<a href="https://www.notredamehs.com/about/leadership?id=3750" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Palmieri</a>, and one man, Michael Pohl.
&#8220;Unfortunately the person who&#8217;s taking over our current administration, he&#8217;s going to make sure that people like yourself are deported back,&#8221; Berry told Magloire. &#8220;It&#8217;s unfortunate that I think that the moment that we say that you&#8217;re going to be granted, or if we grant your discretionary parole, the process will begin.&#8221;
&#8220;I want to be perfectly clear,&#8221; she told the convict. &#8220;If we grant your discretionary parole today, you&#8217;ll be transported to a halfway house where you&#8217;ll wait for ICE to pick you up, and you will be returned. You won&#8217;t reunite with your family. That&#8217;s not going to happen, sir.&#8221;
&#8220;Oh, so they&#8217;re going to take me right back?&#8221; Magloire asked.
&#8220;They&#8217;re going to take you right back in a matter of days,&#8221; Berry responded.
&#8220;So even though the country is in turmoil the way it is?&#8221; he said.
&#8220;That&#8217;s not our concern. That&#8217;s out of our control,&#8221; she said.
Magloire shook his head.
&#8220;Yeah,&#8221; Berry said.
Berry suggested Magloire might have a better chance of fighting his deportation detainer in prison than if he is &#8220;sent out of the country and trying to get back.&#8221;
However, another board member, Pohl pushed back with a different perspective.
&#8220;So my take on this is that we parole him today because they can&#8217;t elect a Speaker of the House — I don&#8217;t think the Trump administration is going to be in a position in the next 30 days, which is what they hold him, to deport him,&#8221; Pohl said.
Berry responded enthusiastically — &#8220;Really!&#8221; — when she learned the ICE detainer would last only 30 days rather than 90.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t want to make less of what happened in this offense,&#8221; Pohl added quickly.
&#8220;No, of course not,&#8221; Berry said.
The board took a brief recess to speak with the detainer supervisor and questioned Magloire about where he was in the process of fighting the deportation order.
In the end, all three parole board members agreed to release Magloire, deciding he would have the &#8220;best opportunity to dispute this immigration detainer if he is granted discretionary parole.&#8221;
Magloire sobbed and folded his hands, saying, &#8220;Thank you, I will not disappoint you again, I will not let this happen.&#8221;
&#8220;I cannot be in here no more,&#8221; he said.
Magloire was on the sex offender registry as far back as two decades ago. In 1998, he was convicted of injury or risk of injury to or impairing the morals of children.
That did not stop him from <a href="https://www.thehour.com/norwalk/article/Schools-sex-offender-was-never-custodian-8293006.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trying</a> to get a job as a custodian at an elementary school a few years later in 2007 and even showing up to the school, causing an uproar among parents.
Stamford police said they found evidence Magloire may have worked one day at Newfield Elementary School before his background checks were complete. The school district denied this, claiming Magloire showed up before he was hired.
Magloire&#8217;s current offense happened in the Waterbury area, where local police <a href="https://www.jud2.ct.gov/crdockets/CaseDetailDisp.aspx?source=Pending&amp;Key=bade4941-45e7-4a22-be1e-d39e8342de78" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> him and the city&#8217;s courts convicted him after he pled guilty, according to the parole hearing docket and inmate information <a href="http://www.ctinmateinfo.state.ct.us/detailsupv.asp?id_inmt_num=255393" target="_blank" rel="noopener">from</a> the Connecticut Department of Correction.
He was originally denied parole in May of 2023.
At several points during Magloire&#8217;s recent parole hearing, board members appeared to appreciate the serious nature of the situation.
Both Berry and Pohl expressed concern with Magloire saying he cannot promise not to offend again.
Magloire told them, &#8220;I did say that I can&#8217;t promise not making a mistake.&#8221;
&#8220;For you to sit here and say that I can&#8217;t make that promise, while I respect your being honest, I really struggle with that statement because nobody else&#8217;s child deserves to suffer through this ever again,&#8221; Berry said.
When Magloire blamed his offense on drinking alcohol and &#8220;being around certain friends,&#8221; Berry pointed out that while alcohol might lower his inhibitions, &#8220;you already had those thoughts in your head about sexually offending.&#8221;
However, none of the board&#8217;s concerns were enough to deny his parole.
Smith-Palmieri noted that Magloire completed a sex offender program and &#8220;got all he could out of the program&#8221; despite some &#8220;intellectual deficiencies&#8221; that may have interfered.
&#8220;I feel so remorseful for the pain of the child that I made a mistake on,&#8221; Magloire said, asking the parole board to tell the child&#8217;s mother that &#8220;I apologize for that.&#8221;
&#8220;At the time I wasn&#8217;t thinking too well, clearly,&#8221; he said, but now he has a &#8220;clear mind not to do the wrong.&#8221;
At least one of the parole board members is open about his political leanings online.
Pohl is <a href="https://www.manchesterctdems.info/mike-pohl/?_sm_nck=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also</a> the chairman of the Manchester Democrats, and an X account that appears to belong to him <a href="https://x.com/mikepohl12?lang=de" target="_blank" rel="noopener">is a</a> hodgepodge of Democrat retweets, as well as a retweet of a post about Connecticut&#8217;s prison population being at a nearly two-decade low.
Pohl also apparently posted &#8220;Class&#8221; in response to Bill Clinton wishing Joe Biden a happy birthday and in another post, &#8220;Don&#8217;t ever let them forget what happened&#8221; on January 6, saying local Republican leaders remained silent.

Los Angeles Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/karen-bass" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Karen Bass</a>’ deputy mayor, who was in charge of overseeing the city&#8217;s fire department, was not on the job in the weeks and days leading up to the historic wildfires that erupted last week because he was placed on leave after he was raided by the FBI.
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/14/us-news/bass-appointee-was-put-on-leave-after-alleged-la-bomb-threat/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the Los Angeles Police Department initially indicated when the incident happened last month that Deputy Mayor Brian Williams was likely the “source of the threat.”
The FBI took over the investigation because of Williams&#8217; connections to the local police department, the report said.
The raid happened less than three weeks before the fires broke out — burning more than 40,000 acres, causing $50+ billion in damages, destroying 10,000+ structures, and killing more than a dozen people.
Williams was in charge of overseeing several of the city&#8217;s largest departments, including the fire department, police department, and more, the report said.
The controversy is just the latest negative development for Bass, who has seen widespread criticism for her lack of preparedness and the fact that she was in Africa when the fires erupted despite pledging in 2021 to never take international trips if elected as mayor.

Bass has also faced intense scrutiny over cutting millions of dollars from the city’s fire department budget.
In a memo dated December 4, 2024, L.A. Fire Chief Kristin Crowley wrote that the nearly $18 million in cuts “severely limited the department’s capacity to prepare for, train for, and respond to large-scale emergencies, including wildfires.”
“Without this funding, pilot compliance and readiness are jeopardized, and aerial firefighting capabilities are diminished,” Crowley wrote in the memo that was presented last month to the Board of Fire Commissioners, a panel of mayoral appointees who oversee the management of the department.
Crowley said that the overtime hours funded “Heavy Equipment Operators (HEOs) who make fire control lines around wildland fires, manage firefighting robotics, wildland fire road maintenance, post-fire demolition services, and other allhazard emergency services.”
“Ultimately, loss of funding impairs the Department’s ability to mitigate wildland fires and other hazards effectively,” she wrote.

California’s sanctuary state laws might prevent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from gaining custody of an illegal alien who has been named as a “person of interest” in connection with one of the fires that ignited last week in the Los Angeles area.
ICE named 33-year-old Mexican national Juan Manuel Sierra as a person of interest in connection with the Kenneth Fire, which burned nearly 1,000 acres near Calabasas but is now <a href="https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2025/1/9/kenneth-fire">fully contained</a>. The federal immigration enforcement agency has placed a detainer on Sierra, but could be prevented from gaining custody of him due to sanctuary policies designed to protect illegal aliens from deportation.
Sierra was <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-01-14/kenneth-fire-person-of-interest-is-a-convicted-felon-and-entered-country-illegally-ice-says">arrested</a> by the Los Angeles Police Department on January 10 for a felony probation violation while allegedly “attempting to start a fire” and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/man-detained-with-blowtorch-near-wildfire-idd-as-illegal-immigrant-not-charged-with-arson-report">possessing a blowtorch</a> and is currently being held in a Los Angeles County jail. The sheriff&#8217;s department has <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-01-14/kenneth-fire-person-of-interest-is-a-convicted-felon-and-entered-country-illegally-ice-says">stated</a> that Sierra will be transferred to ICE if it provides an arrest warrant, which is distinct from the detainer that ICE has currently filed.
ICE <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/statement-ice-person-interest-being-held-connection-california-fires">confirmed</a> that Sierra “entered the U.S. unlawfully at an unknown date” and has had “multiple encounters with law enforcement from November 2016 to present for a variety of charges and was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon Oct. 10, 2023.”

Senate Bill 54, <a href="https://caimmigrant.org/timeline/the-california-values-act-sb-54-de-leon/">signed into law</a> in 2017, prevents law enforcement from complying with ICE detainer requests. These requests ask that local or state law enforcement agents hold an illegal alien for up to 48 hours after their initial release date. California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom&#8217;s press office <a href="https://x.com/GovPressOffice/status/1879370713104093264">responded</a>, saying, &#8220;Local law enforcement is allowed to cooperate with ICE to take people who pose a threat to public safety into custody when released from jail or prison” and that “SB 54 does not impede criminal investigations or sharing information about an individual&#8217;s criminal history.”
The arrest of Sierra comes as President-elect Trump and his border czar Tom Homan have indicated that they will take action against jurisdictions that attempt to hinder federal immigration enforcement activities through sanctuary policies, including by <a href="https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/boston-mayor-wu-responds-threats-sanctuary-cities-losing-federal-funding/XJQQKOMFCNDURFNMMYOLYCOPFA/">slashing</a> federal funding. A member of the sadistic gang MS-13 pled guilty on Tuesday to seven brutal murders on Long Island, New York, including the murders of two teenage girls.
Jairo Saenz, 28, also known as &#8220;Funny,&#8221; was seen smiling in federal court as he pled guilty to racketeering and other charges related to the spate of killings, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/14/us-news/ms-13-honcho-funny-all-smiles-as-hes-sentenced-for-7-barbaric-murders-including-hit-on-teen-girls/">reported</a>.
He faces up to 60 years in prison and will be <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/ms-13-member-pleads-guilty-slaying-2-girls-117673366">sentenced</a> on June 13.
Saenz admitted to giving the order in 2016 to kill two high school girls who the gang thought disrespected them on social media.
Kayla Cuevas, 16, and Nisa Mickens, 15, were beaten to death on September 13, 2016. Their murders made national news and alerted the country to the largely El Salvadoran gang&#8217;s violent activities.
“I came to this country and worked for two years before joining in 13,” the killer said in a statement read by his attorney. “I knew MS-13 was a gang back in El Salvador. I know that MS-13 had members in Franklin and Central Islip. We agreed to kill a man.”
Saenz admitted to ordering the killings of the teen girls as well as a 15-year-old boy who was hacked to death because they believed he was part of a rival gang. He also admitted to killing a man at a deli wearing an &#8220;18&#8221; jersey, which the gang interpreted as signifying a rival gang, another man they believed was a Bloods gang member, a man suspected of dealing with the rival 18th Street gang, another man they suspected of rival gang activity, and a man they lured into the woods to smoke weed before killing him with knives and machetes.

The killer&#8217;s brother, Alexi Saenz, known as “Blatsy” and “Plaky,” previously pled guilty in July to eight murders, including the teen girls. However, his plea deal was contingent on his brother taking a plea as well, which did not happen until six months later on Tuesday. He faces up to 70 years in prison at his sentencing later this month.
The brothers ordered various killings that were carried out with guns, machetes, and baseball bats to build their gang&#8217;s reputation, prosecutors said.
“Today, Jairo Saenz pleaded guilty to seven murders that can only be described as barbaric, and multiple acts of senseless gang violence that had turned parts of Long Island into a war zone,” Acting US Attorney Carolyn Pokorny said in a statement.

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/france">French</a> woman has been scammed out of her life savings and even divorced her husband after being duped by AI-generated images of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/brad-pitt">Brad Pitt</a> in the hospital.
The woman, identified as Anne in the interview on the French radio program “Seven to Eight” on the TF1 channel, sent the scammers more than $850,000 over the course of one year. The 53-year-old interior designer explained how she was contacted by someone claiming to be Pitt’s mother via social media.
&#8220;It’s a woman like you that my son needs,&#8221; the woman posing as Pitt’s mother said, per <a href="https://people.com/scammers-brad-pitt-swindled-woman-report-8774403">People</a>. Anne claimed to be skeptical at first but eventually believed it was true after being contacted by someone posing as Pitt himself.
&#8220;At first I said to myself that it was fake, that it&#8217;s ridiculous,&#8221; Anne told TF1. &#8220;But I&#8217;m not used to social media and I didn&#8217;t really understand what was happening to me.&#8221;
At first, Anne sent around $10,000 to help pay customs tariffs as requested by the scammer so she could receive gifts from the person posing as Pitt. She later handed over about $798,000, the bulk of her divorce settlement, to help the person she believed was Pitt pay medical bills. The scammer claimed his bank accounts were frozen due to ongoing divorce proceedings with his ex, Angelina Jolie.
&#8220;There are so few men who write you this kind of thing,&#8221; Anne said during the interview. &#8220;I liked the man I was talking to. He knew how to talk to women, it was always very well done.&#8221;
The impersonator also sent AI-generated photos of what looked like Pitt in the hospital to convince Anne she was helping him pay for kidney treatment. The woman figured out she was being conned after seeing news reports that Pitt was in a relationship with Ines De Ramon.

A rep for Pitt also commented on the story, reiterating that his client does not have social media, making criminals more likely to use his image for scams. 
“It’s awful that scammers take advantage of fans’ strong connection with celebrities,” the rep said. “But this is an important reminder to not respond to unsolicited online outreach, especially from actors who have no social media presence.&#8221;

Two teachers union heads in Florida have been indicted on fraud and conspiracy charges, accused of stealing more than $2 million from union members.
The indictment against Terrie Brady, who was president of Duval Teachers United, and Ruby George, who was executive vice president, was unsealed on Monday.
Brady, 69, and George, 81, could face decades in prison if convicted of the charges, which <a href="https://jaxtoday.org/2025/01/13/teachers-union-fraud-indictment/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">include</a> conspiracy to commit wire fraud, eight counts of aiding and abetting wire fraud, and three counts of aiding and abetting mail fraud.
The indictment accuses the two women of cheating the union out of <a href="https://www.jacksonville.com/story/news/local/2025/01/13/florida-teachers-union-execs-terrie-brady-ruby-george-indicted/75914930007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more</a> than $1.2 million each between 2013 and 2022, in part by claiming much more unused vacation time than they had. According to the indictment, they tag-teamed on signing each other&#8217;s union checks for fraudulent vacation time payments and additional bonus payments.
Brady was also charged with two counts of money laundering for allegedly using nearly $44,000 of the money to pay personal American Express credit card debt.
Then, the women filed false documentation to a union auditor, the indictment claimed.
The bombshell charges come after agents from the FBI and Internal Revenue Service raided the union&#8217;s headquarters in San Marco in September 2023, sparking confusion and speculation. Agents were spotted carrying computers, bags, and boxes of financial documents out of the building.
Brady and George resigned just weeks later after leading the union for 24 years, saying they wanted to spend more time with their families.
Back in 2023, Brady <a href="https://www.actionnewsjax.com/news/local/governor-ron-desantis-takes-aim-teachers-unions/XEPIGBHODZB7PEWRRJNWN2XYCE/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complained</a> about Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis trying to impose new financial transparency requirements on the unions.
“We think we’re pretty transparent in the work that we do,” Brady said.

DeSantis had accused the unions of being too political and promised better pay for teachers and a cap on the salaries of teachers union officials.

Duval Teachers United represents about 13,000 teachers and other school employees in the Jacksonville area. The local union is affiliated with both the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA).
The union <a href="https://jaxtoday.org/2025/01/13/teachers-union-fraud-indictment/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">brings</a> in about $5 million in revenue a year.
In 2022, Brady received a lifetime achievement award for “a long record of excellent leadership” from the Florida Education Association.
She also chaired the Florida Democratic Party in the 1990s.

WNBA star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/caitlin-clark" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Caitlin Clark’s</a> alleged stalker will remain behind bars following his chaotic hearing where he seemingly pleaded guilty following his arrest over the weekend.
In an Indianapolis courtroom on Tuesday, 55-year-old Texas Michael Lewis had several outbursts in which he first declared he was “guilty as charged” before the judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/alleged-caitlin-clark-stalker-says-wants-stay-jail-yells-guilty-charge-rcna187596">NBC News</a> reported.
He yelled “Throw me the booky!” and “I’m free! I guess you got the wrong guy!” while also claiming that his name didn&#8217;t include a “Jr.” in court records, the outlet noted.
During the hearing, the Marion County Superior Court Judge Angela Davis tried to read the charges against him saying he “terrorized, frightened, or threatened” Clark and caused a “reasonable fear of sexual battery.” 
Lewis replied, “Can I say something?” before Davis replied, “Not yet.”
Each time the Texas man would interrupt, the deputies in the court tried to get him to stop and straighten up.

When asked if the man was dealing with mental health issues, Lewis told the court, “I need my medicines.” When the judge inquired if he needed an attorney, the alleged stalker said he couldn’t afford one and that he needed his medication. He was also asked if he lived in Texas, and he replied, “Sort of, I live in my vehicle.” 
The Texas man signed court orders agreeing to stay away from Clark’s home and have no contact with the Indiana Fever star. Judge Davis told him, “If you violate stay away or no contact orders, the court will revoke your bond.&#8221;
The judge ordered that Lewis be held in lieu of a $50,000 bond. Lewis then replied, “I don’t want bond, bail, whatever. I’m here. I’m staying.”
He was charged with one count of stalking, accused of engaging in a “course of conduct involving repeated or continuing harassment of Caitlin Clark that would cause a reasonable person to feel terrorized,” according to court documents from Marion County prosecutors.
On Sunday, Lewis was arrested for felony stalking, accused of making several disturbing, sexually explicit messages and threats online against Clark, before traveling to Indianapolis where he was taken into custody, <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2025/01/13/caitlin-clark-stalking-arrest/?adid=social-tmzlikeshop-ig">TMZ noted</a>.

Two high school girls in Louisiana were charged with lying to police after they attempted to frame a male teacher they claimed was sending inappropriate messages to a student.
The two girls, who have not been named because they are minors, were charged with one count each of false swearing for the purpose of violating public health or safety (a felony), cyberstalking, and online impersonation, according to <a href="https://www.lpso.net/2025/01/06/two-high-school-girls-charged-for-trying-to-frame-teacher-for-inappropriate-messages/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a press release</a> from Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, Sheriff Craig Webre.
“Our juvenile detectives are diligent and take claims of inappropriate behavior very seriously,” Webre said in the press release. “They are, however, equally serious about false claims. Someone’s life can be instantly ruined by a false allegation, and I am proud that our investigators were able to get to the bottom of this. Technology has made it very easy for people to try to manipulate the truth, but technology also makes it easy for investigators to ultimately find the truth.”
On December 18, the sheriff said, someone reported to the police that a male teacher at Central Lafourche High School had been sending inappropriate messages to a 16-year-old girl who was a student. Upon investigation, detectives found that the 16-year-old and her 15-year-old friend had conspired to frame the teacher.
At first, the two girls said they had received inappropriate messages from the teacher through an online instant messaging platform. Over the next two weeks, detectives investigated the claims, interviewing everyone involved and searching their phones and accounts on the platform.
Detectives soon learned that the two teen girls had created fake accounts impersonating the teacher and used those accounts to send bogus messages. They then sent screenshots of those messages to their friends to frame the teacher.

Detectives were able to prove that the male teacher had not sent any of the messages or photos the girls claimed he sent, and one of the girls eventually confessed to the crime. The sheriff’s office declared the teacher to be the “crime victim” and stated that he “has been cleared of all allegations,” something rare when it comes to false accusations.
Both girls were charged on January 6 with falsely reporting a crime to police, cyberstalking, and impersonating the teacher online. They were released into the custody of their parents but were placed on electronic monitoring, the sheriff’s office said.
“We are shocked and appalled to learn of the actions of two of our students,” Lafourche Parish Schools Superintendent Jarod Martin said in the press release. “The allegations against one of our teachers were false and malicious, and we appreciate the efficiency of investigators in uncovering the source of these messages. Such attacks on a teacher’s credibility and reputation are concerning and can inhibit their ability to effectively educate our children. We are committed to investigating all allegations of misconduct in order to provide a safe environment conducive to learning and working for all of our students and staff.”

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin <a href="https://x.com/BillMelugin_/status/1878618919054823502" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shared</a> new details in a post to X on Sunday evening, noting that he got his information from insiders from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Daily Wire previously reported that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/police-arrest-arson-suspect-behind-massive-new-california-fire" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on Thursday night a suspect had been detained in the Woodland Hills area in possible connection to the Kenneth Fire in the nearby West Hills. Newsweek posted <a href="https://x.com/Newsweek/status/1877844775547592770" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> showing what it said were neighbors banding together to stop the arson suspect. The man had been walking with a bike and what appeared to be a yellow blow torch before being stopped by the citizens. At the end of the video, police took the individual into custody.
However, authorities said on Friday that the man had been arrested on a felony probation violation and was not facing arson charges,&#8221; according to <a href="https://ktla.com/news/local-news/man-detained-near-kenneth-fire/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">KTLA</a>.
&#8220;After the interview and additional investigative steps, looking at some additional evidence that was present, they made the determination that there was not enough probable cause to arrest this person on arson or suspicion of arson,&#8221; said LAPD Divisional Chief Dominic Choi, who also noted that the investigation was &#8220;ongoing.&#8221;

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/los-angeles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Los Angeles</a> County district attorney promised on Saturday to bring down the hammer on any looters or scammers who attempt to exploit the devastating fires raging in the area.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6366958042112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told Fox News</a> that he was warning any would-be criminal that his office would be prosecuting to the fullest extent of the law and throwing the “full book” at anyone arrested. Reports have already come out of Los Angeles of looters going into neighborhoods amid the fires that first responders are still struggling to contain.
“I want to send an unmistakably clear message to those who are thinking about looting, to those who are thinking about burglary, robbery, grand theft, to those who want to get on the internet and defraud people who have suffered this tragedy: you will be arrested, you will be prosecuted, and you will be punished to the full extent of the law,” Hochman said in an interview.
According to the <a href="https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">latest updates</a> available from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, there are multiple major fires still blazing throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties that are not fully contained. The data show just 11% containment for the Palisades Fire (22,660 acres), 15% containment for the Eaton Fire (14,117 acres), 80% for the Kenneth Fire (1,052 acres), and 76% for the Hurst Fire (799 acres).
Police have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/police-arrest-arson-suspect-behind-massive-new-california-fire" target="_blank" rel="noopener">already arrested</a> on suspect they believe was behind the Kenneth Fire.
“I know that prior to my taking office, people might have thought you could commit crimes and nothing is going to happen,” Hochman said, referring to the leftist policies of previous DA George Gascon. “Let me assure you: if you get caught &#8212; and you will get caught &#8212; the full book will be thrown at you and maximum punishment will be sought.”
He said that a federal, local, and state task force was being put together to go after looters and scammers.

Previously on Thursday, Hochman promised <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/banfield/la-da-punishment-guilty-looters-arsonist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">during an interview</a> with NewsNation that “justice will be swift” and that “the day and age of a DA’s office standing on the sidelines is over.”
Hochman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftist-l-a-county-da-george-gascon-loses-re-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defeated</a> Gascon in November after running on a tough-on-crime platform and promising to bring back law and order.
“The voters of Los Angeles County have spoken and have said enough is enough of D.A. Gascón’s pro-criminal extreme policies; they look forward to a safer future,” Hochman said after his victory.
