An Arizona missing persons cold case turned into an investigative triumph when Christina Marie Plante was found alive after she disappeared more than three decades ago, the Gila County Sheriff&#8217;s Office <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1479304087566987&amp;set=pcb.1479304147566981">announced</a> Wednesday.
But not only is Plante alive and well, an investigator shared Thursday that the teenage girl actually ran away and has been secretly living another life since.
On May 15, 1994, the then-13-year-old left her home on foot in the small town of Star Valley, Arizona, to visit her horse at a nearby stable, authorities said. At some point after leaving her house, Plante vanished &#8220;without a trace&#8221; and was reported missing.
&#8220;At the time of her disappearance, extensive search efforts were conducted involving local law enforcement, volunteers, and regional resources,&#8221; authorities wrote in the statement. &#8220;Despite exhaustive ground searches, interviews, and investigative follow-up, no viable leads were developed.&#8221;
Her name was entered into national missing children databases and missing persons flyers were distributed throughout the country.
Until this week, the case remained active and ongoing, with investigators &#8220;periodically re-examining evidence and pursuing new information as it became available.&#8221;

It wasn&#8217;t until the sheriff&#8217;s office developed the Cold Case Unit with a &#8220;renewed commitment to unresolved investigations&#8221; that they reached a &#8220;breakthrough.&#8221;
Captain Jamie Garrett of the unit credits advanced technology and modern investigative techniques for the ability to have tracked down the now 44-year-old.
Garrett told <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/missing/girl-missing-1994-left-on-purpose/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NewsNation’s “Jesse Weber Live”</a> on Thursday that she spoke to Plante on the phone, who confirmed she was the missing girl from Star Valley.
Garrett said she was &#8220;dumbfounded&#8221; after learning there was no kidnapping involved. Instead, Garrett shared that Plante made the decision to run away, with the help of other family members.
&#8220;I guess she wasn&#8217;t happy with where she was living and who she was living with, and she ran away,&#8221; Garrett said of the phone call.
Garrett told Weber that she shared with Plante the authorities thought something sinister had happened, &#8220;You know, we were under the impression that somebody kidnapped you. It was deemed a criminal offense.”
Plante, according to Garrett, didn&#8217;t give much information about how she ran away or where she has been, but confirmed she is living under a different name.
“She’s in her adult life. She has her family now. That’s not something she even thinks about,” Garrett said.
The sheriff&#8217;s office initially wrote in the statement it wasn&#8217;t going to release any more information “out of respect for Christina’s privacy and well-being.”
“The Gila County Sheriff&#8217;s Office remains committed to pursuing all unresolved cases and encourages anyone with information regarding other cold cases to come forward.”

Body-cam and vehicle footage released by the Martin County, Florida, Sheriff&#8217;s Office on Thursday shows the aftermath of Tiger Woods&#8217; rollover crash last week as Woods gets searched and undergoes a sobriety test.
In the body-cam video, Woods is seen kneeling on the side of the road while speaking to a sheriff&#8217;s deputy a few feet away from his wrecked Range Rover. Woods told a sheriff&#8217;s deputy, &#8220;I looked down at my phone and all of a sudden, boom.&#8221;
The deputy then patted down the legendary golfer and told him a medic would come over to check him out.
&#8220;He&#8217;s okay. I just checked for anything on his back. I didn&#8217;t feel anything,&#8221; the deputy told a colleague before he walked over to the truck and trailer that Woods had hit.

Later, footage shows deputies conducting a field sobriety test on Woods before they search his pockets and find two pills in his pocket.
&#8220;Oh, that&#8217;s a narco,&#8221; Woods said after the deputy pulled the pills from his pocket. According to the arrest affidavit, the pills were hydrocodone, an opioid used to treat severe and long-lasting pain.

Woods was arrested and charged with DUI with property damage. A breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in his system, but a deputy described Woods as “lethargic and slow,” with “bloodshot and glassy” eyes and “extremely dilated” pupils, according to the arrest affidavit.
&#8220;So at this time, I do believe your normal faculties are impaired,&#8221; one of the deputies told Woods as she placed handcuffs on him. &#8220;And you&#8217;re under the unknown substance, so at this time, you&#8217;re under arrest for DUI.&#8221;
The body-cam footage also shows the deputy talking to the driver of the truck involved in the wreck. The truck driver told the deputy that he was stopped in the road and about to turn into a driveway when Woods plowed into the trailer. It appears that one of the trailer&#8217;s tires was damaged in the collision.
&#8220;I&#8217;m fine. It hit the trailer,&#8221; the truck driver said. &#8220;I&#8217;m not sure if I&#8217;m going to be able to drive it out of here.&#8221;
The sheriff&#8217;s office also released <a href="https://www.tcpalm.com/videos/news/2026/04/02/watch-tiger-woods-bodycam-footage/89433940007/">footage</a> of inside the sheriff&#8217;s vehicle as Woods is hauled off to jail.
Woods refused to comply with a urine test, which resulted in an additional charge of refusal to submit to a lawful test, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek.
Woods has dealt with significant injuries throughout his career, including multiple back surgeries and serious leg injuries from a 2021 car crash in Los Angeles. He told authorities that he takes “a few” prescription medications, but said that he was distracted by his phone and radio before the crash.
Earlier this week, Woods entered a plea deal in the DUI case, and a judge granted his request to travel outside of the United States after the golfer&#8217;s attorney cited his need to get into an &#8220;intensive, highly individualized and medically integrated program.&#8221; Woods <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tiger-woods-breaks-silence-after-dui-arrest-pga-tour-also-issues-statement">said</a> on Tuesday that he would be &#8220;stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.&#8221;
&#8220;I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.&#8221;

More than 50 years after 17-year-old Laura Ann Aime first disappeared, DNA evidence confirmed that she died at the hands of notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.
&#8220;This case is now officially closed,&#8221; Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith announced on Wednesday, detailing during a news conference the process by which his department had been able to connect Bundy to the case.

Aime <a href="https://www.sltrib.com/news/2026/04/01/ted-bundy-killed-utah-teen-laura/">disappeared</a> on Halloween night in 1974, and her body was discovered in American Fork Canyon, near the Timpanogos Cave Visitor Center, about one month later — and police initially thought they were looking at the body of a different missing teen. Debra Kent, also 17, had gone missing in Bountiful on November 8. The body of 17-year-old Melissa Smith, whose father was the Midvale police chief, was discovered just weeks earlier.
The attempted kidnapping of a 19-year-old woman eventually led to Bundy&#8217;s arrest in 1975, but he could not be directly tied to Aime&#8217;s murder. While DNA evidence was recovered at the scene, the technology was not yet available that would have allowed investigators to separate mixed profiles in order to make an identification.
Bundy was never charged with Aime&#8217;s murder, but her family — and local authorities — believed that he was the most likely suspect. The notorious serial killer himself named Aime, and Kent, as well as his victims, in a confession prior to his 1989 execution in Florida — but no one was able to tie him directly to the physical evidence until recently.
Sheriff Smith cited &#8220;new forensic techniques&#8221; that allowed commingled DNA samples to be separated into individual profiles — techniques that Utah&#8217;s state crime lab was not able to make use of until 2023.
Once a male DNA profile was extracted from the sample in Aime&#8217;s case, it was entered into a database that included samples from all around the country. A hit on the profile in Florida led investigators to collaborate with the crime lab there, and together they connected the profile to Bundy.
In the state of Utah alone, Bundy is believed to have murdered at least five women — and as many as eight. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1974 to attend University of Utah&#8217;s law school, but prior to his arrival there, he had already killed at least nine women in the Pacific Northwest.

An illegal immigrant from Honduras is accused of kidnapping and sodomizing a girl who was under the age of 12 in Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday after he was deported four different times from the country, The Daily Wire has learned.
Jorge Luis Martinez-Ulloa allegedly grabbed the young girl by her arm and neck, trapping her in his apartment, and raping her, the Lexington Herald Leader <a href="https://www.kentucky.com/news/local/crime/article315239398.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, citing court documents.
The young child didn&#8217;t know Martinez-Ulloa, the local news outlet reported. She was later hospitalized for her injuries, and police took the illegal immigrant and accused rapist into custody.

The Honduran national first crossed the border illegally in Laredo, Texas, in 2012 and was removed from the country through a process known as voluntary departure, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told The Daily Wire.
Martinez-Ulloa then entered the United States illegally again on February 26, 2021; February 28, 2021; and March 7, 2021, and was deported each time, DHS said. He then snuck into the country a fifth time on an unknown date before he went on to victimize the young child Saturday.
Martinez-Ulloa is charged with kidnapping of a minor, first-degree strangulation, two counts of first-degree rape involving a victim under 12, two counts of first-degree sodomy involving a victim under 12, and two counts of sexual abuse of a victim under 12.
ICE has since lodged a detainer with local authorities, asking them to hand over the illegal immigrant for eventual deportation, the agency said.
“This criminal illegal alien kidnapped and raped a child. ICE requesting Lexington not release this child predator without notification to ICE law enforcement,&#8221; Acting Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement shared with The Daily Wire.
Over two dozen law enforcement agencies in Kentucky have agreements to work with ICE through its 287(g) program, <a href="https://archive.is/e9HZi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Louisville Courier-Journal. While authorities in Lexington haven&#8217;t entered into such formal agreements, it is not considered a sanctuary jurisdiction that is prevented from working with federal immigration officers.
&#8220;Thankfully, Lexington cooperates with ICE, so this pedophile will not be released from jail back into American neighborhoods,” Bis said. “We need more cities and states to cooperate with us to help remove sickos like this from our country. Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, ICE will continue arresting and removing child rapists from our country.”
Martinez-Ulloa was arraigned Monday afternoon, when a judge kept his bond at $100,000, according to the Lexington Herald Leader. His next hearing is scheduled for April 7.

New York City crime isn’t just a hot-button political issue; it’s also a concrete measure of how healthy public life is in the nation’s biggest city. So, whether crime is up or down in the Big Apple matters — for many reasons — which is why the question is fiercely debated and closely scrutinized. Unfortunately, the city doesn’t make it as easy as it could be for the public to track, understand, and contextualize the crime data it releases, which has led to some skepticism about the much-touted declines in crime that the NYPD has been claiming over the past 14 months. What are we to make of these conflicting claims? How is New York City really doing on crime?
The answer is two-fold: New York got safer in 2024 and ’25 — especially with respect to gun violence. But on other crime measures, the city remains well above pre-pandemic lows.
The city experienced two of its safest years in 2017 and 2018. But in 2020, homicides and shootings surged by 47% and 97%, respectively. The pandemic-related shutdowns kept New Yorkers indoors most of that year, leading to a decline in other major felony offenses tracked by the city. These offenses tend to have a more diverse set of victims than homicides and shootings, which often involve victims who are part of the same criminal networks as the perpetrators. However, the reported drop in crimes like robbery and assault concealed an important reality: when accounting for the reduced time potential victims spent outside (where such crimes usually happen), there was a sharp increase in the risk of assault and robbery in New York — by roughly 10-15%.
This might actually help explain why some people may not be feeling the declines that are being enthusiastically reported. A 10% decrease in reported robberies might not feel significant if it’s partly due to fewer opportunities to commit the crimes; and although foot traffic and subway ridership have somewhat recovered from the lows during the pandemic, many New Yorkers (some of whom have left the city entirely since 2020) haven’t fully returned to their pre-pandemic routines.

It&#8217;s also worth noting that in 2022, although both shootings and homicides began decreasing, other “major” crime categories increased by 22%. Those levels remained stable in 2023 before starting to decline in 2024. Last year, the city announced continued progress on both shootings (which dropped below 2017 levels) and homicides (which fell below the 2019 level), along with a broader decrease in other crime categories; however, compared to 2018, 2025 still experienced 17% more robberies, 48% more assaults, 10% more burglaries, and 149% more car thefts.
And while the city is reporting some progress on these measures through the first couple of months of 2026, those numbers may well be revised upward, as is commonly the case — and not just in New York. The early reports are encouraging, but it’s still too early to say whether 2026 will see the recent momentum shift.
So, while the city has massively improved on the gun violence front, New Yorkers are still at a higher risk of many other kinds of victimization than they were in 2018.
Important as all this is, we must not discount other measures of public safety and order.
Although they may be regarded as less serious than a robbery report, resident complaints about public disorder — such as open-air drug use, public urination, homeless encampments, and emotionally disturbed vagrants — highlight an important part of the story. In addition to the well-publicized “CompStat” reports issued by the NYPD, the department also monitors quality of life complaints (QOLstat), which are increasing on the streets and especially in the transit system (where such complaints are up more than 29% through March 22nd). On the streets, complaints for public urination (58%), graffiti (17%), and disorderly persons (20%) are all rising.
This matters. Disorder has long influenced how the public perceives crime and safety. Recognizing this effect is a key part of the Broken Windows theory <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1982/03/broken-windows/304465/">articulated</a> by George L. Kelling and James Q. Wilson in their seminal 1982 article. The state of our public spaces shapes our perceptions of their safety and security. Just because an offense isn’t labeled a “major” crime by the agencies that track such things doesn’t mean it should be ignored in assessing a city’s overall safety.
The truth of the matter is that the NYPD and its partners have made genuine progress in their efforts to control and reduce the most serious crimes, but the nation’s largest city — now governed by the most anti-law-enforcement mayor of our time — is still far from <a href="https://manhattan.institute/article/crime-in-new-york-dashboard">out of danger</a>. Whether New York can improve public safety will depend heavily on major decisions the mayor and city council must make in the coming months and years. Some healthy skepticism about the administration’s claims of success can help maintain pressure where it’s needed most.

An 83-year old U.S. Air Force veteran who was shoved onto subway tracks in Manhattan earlier this month has died from his injuries, and the suspect, identified as a Honduran national in the country illegally, has now been charged with second-degree murder.
Richard Williams, a grandfather, succumbed to his injuries on March 17 after the March 8 attack at the Lexington Avenue–63rd Street station on the Upper East Side, according to authorities. The suspect, 34-year-old Bairon Hernandez, was arrested on March 10 at a homeless shelter. Following Williams’ death, prosecutors upgraded the charges from assault to second-degree murder, court records show.
The incident occurred just before noon, when police alleged Hernandez <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nypd-search-for-suspect-who-pushed-two-men-onto-subway-tracks">pushed Williams and a 30-year-old man</a> onto the southbound F train tracks. Bystanders managed to pull both victims back onto the platform before an oncoming train arrived. The second victim, identified as 30-year-old Jhon Rodriguez, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Williams hit his head on the tracks and immediately lost consciousness, bleeding heavily from a head wound, according to Rodriguez.
Hernandez fled the scene but was later taken into custody. Authorities have not publicly indicated a motive. Prosecutors previously said Williams had been left “brain-dead” following the attack, and his daughter indicated in the days afterward that he was unlikely to recover. The medical examiner has since ruled his death a homicide. 
Williams, a retired Air Force pilot, had recently overcome a five-year battle with prostate cancer and was described by family as having found a renewed lease on life in the months before the attack. His daughter expressed outrage at the suspect in earlier remarks, calling for severe punishment in the wake of the attack. 
Hernandez, according to the Department of Homeland Security, is a “serial criminal” with a lengthy rap sheet of at least 15 prior charges, including aggravated assault, weapons possession, and domestic violence. Federal authorities say he had been deported from the United States four times after first entering the country illegally in 2008, but repeatedly reentered. He has since been indicted on a second-degree murder charge.
The killing has intensified concerns over public safety in New York City, which has seen a series of high-profile violent incidents in recent months. While overall crime rates fluctuate year to year, recent acts of violence, specifically by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-indicted-after-allegedly-burning-woman-to-death-on-nyc-subway" target="_blank" rel="noopener">migrants</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdani-breaks-silence-after-nypd-confirms-bomb-was-used-in-terror-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Islamic-aligned elements,</a> have drawn sustained public attention and political debate.
The case also comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the city’s handling of migrants and the strain on public resources. 
New York has taken in tens of thousands of migrants in recent years, many of whom have been housed in shelters across the city, including facilities similar to the one where <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-accused-of-shoving-air-force-veteran-onto-subway-tracks-was-deported-four-times">Hernandez</a> was arrested. Critics argue that gaps in vetting, supervision, and coordination between federal immigration authorities and local jurisdictions have contributed to public safety risks, while city officials maintain that the vast majority of migrants are law-abiding.
Still, for many New Yorkers, the death of Williams, a veteran who survived war and cancer only to be killed in a random act of violence, has become a stark symbol of the city’s ongoing struggle to balance public safety, immigration policy, and criminal justice enforcement.
The proximity of the events has contributed to a broader sense of unease in the city, particularly as officials grapple with overlapping challenges related to crime, policing, and social services. For many New Yorkers, the death of Williams, a veteran and elderly commuter, has become a stark symbol of those concerns.
Hernandez is to be arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court on March 30.

Elderly Veteran Dies After Being Pushed Onto Subway Tracks, Illegal Alien Charged

A brother and sister are facing federal charges for allegations surrounding an explosive device found at the MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.
The indictments come after a suspicious package was placed at the base’s visitor center on March 16. Ann Mary Zheng, 27, is in custody. Her 20-year-old brother Alen is in China, according to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/brother-sister-indicted-alleged-ied-plot-florida-base-tied-iran-war-one-suspect-in-china">Fox News</a>.
Alen Zheng allegedly failed to “detonate” the IED on March 10, according to a U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office, Middle District of Florida, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-mdfl/pr/land-olakes-man-charged-attempting-detonate-improvised-explosive-device-macdill-air" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a>, which noted that the device was found days later and “safely disassembled.”
The federal prosecutor’s <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-mdfl/pr/land-olakes-woman-charged-assisting-after-fact-and-evidence-tampering-related-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">office</a> also alleges that Ann Zheng knew about her brother’s plans to cause “damage” to the military base and helped with efforts for him to avoid “apprehension, trial, and punishment.” In addition, prosecutors allege that she also tried to damage a 2010 Mercedes-Benz to limit it as evidence against her brother.
“An IED was placed at MacDill Air Force Base &#8211; home to CENTCOM and U.S. Special Operations Command,” FBI Director Kash Patel posted to X on Thursday. The base has recently been in the spotlight due to Operation Epic Fury in Iran, but it&#8217;s unclear if the motive is linked to the ongoing conflict. Since the conflict began, there have been concerns raised about the potential for Iranian sleeper cells and lone wolf actors amid the ongoing operation.
“One is in custody for accessory and evidence tampering and the primary suspect is charged with explosives offenses and is currently in China,” Patel added, noting that the bureau “will continue pursuing all those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.”

&#8220;Reacher&#8221; star Alan Ritchson will not face any charges after bloody brawl with neighbor Ronnie Taylor, Brentwood cops say.
The Brentwood Police Department told entertainment site TMZ that they had determined Ritchson acted in self-defense, and would not be charged — and implied that Ritchson was given the option to pursue reckless endangerment charges against Taylor.
After reviewing available evidence, including video footage and witness statements, authorities determined that no criminal charges will be pursued. Mr. Ritchson’s actions were found to be in self-defense. Although a potential reckless endangerment charge was considered, Mr. Ritchson declined to pursue charges,&#8221; they said.
&#8220;With the agreement of the District Attorney’s Office, the case is now closed, and no further action will be taken,&#8221; the statement concluded. Ritchson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-reacher-star-caught-on-video-repeatedly-punching-neighbor-in-front-of-kids">made headlines</a> when video of the bloody altercation circulated online, and TMZ published a story that included comments from Taylor explaining what happened.
Taylor put the onus on Ritchson, saying that he had confronted the &#8220;Reacher&#8221; actor over his loud motorcycle. He stated that he had not known prior to the interaction that Ritchson was an actor, and he had only confronted him because he and his kids had been riding their motorcycles on residential streets.
&#8220;It escalated quite quickly from there,” Taylor said. “I did push [Ritchson] because he was coming towards me on his bike.&#8221;Taylor then got in Ritchson&#8217;s face, as two kids watched, and the actor shoved Taylor to the ground. Taylor got up and pushed Ritchson off his motorcycle, prompting Ritchson to start swinging. He kept punching until Taylor stopped coming after him.
The whole interaction was recorded by a body camera the actor was wearing — and police said that because Taylor had clearly instigated the physical fight, Ritchson&#8217;s subsequent actions were considered to be self-defense.
Ritchson appeared to comment on the situation later, posting to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DWQDLtBDH3J/">Instagram</a>, &#8220;Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.&#8221;

A manhunt continues for the gunmen who “ambushed” a pair of U.S. Park Police officers on Monday night, sending one to the hospital with a gunshot wound. 
The officers were traveling in an unmarked Tesla in southeast Washington, D.C., when someone opened fire into their vehicle, law enforcement said during a press briefing. The officers were conducting an ongoing investigation in the area, and officials believe the shooting was targeted. 
The injured officer was airlifted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and released early Tuesday morning. 
“We can confirm that our officer who was shot last night was released from the hospital earlier this morning,” Park Police <a href="https://x.com/usparkpolicepio/status/2036415630190997755">said</a>. “Thank you for the thoughts and prayers!”
Park Police Chief Scott Brecht said that the officers “were ambushed by at least two gunmen” at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The officer driving the vehicle was struck but managed to drive up the road, where he pulled over and was administered first aid. 
“We are seeking two suspects, two black males, one was wearing a white hoodie with blue jeans, the other was wearing all black, with [a] white stripe down the sleeve and down the pant leg,” Brecht <a href="https://x.com/usparkpolicepio">said</a>. 
Brecht did not specify what kind of law enforcement operation the officers were conducting. 
“This is an example of unnecessary gun violence in our city. There’s no reason that anybody, a police officer, not a police officer, should be shot just for being out here driving through the neighborhood,”  said interim D.C. Police Chief Jeffery Carroll.
Attorney General Pam Bondi was briefed on the shooting, and the FBI is assisting in the search for the suspects. 
“Praying for the Park Police officer shot in Washington, D.C. The FBI is actively supporting the investigation alongside our law enforcement partners and will bring those responsible to justice,” FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/2036244929668591826">said</a> Monday. “We will provide updates as we are able &#8211; please keep the officer and their family in your prayers.”
Park Police comes under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service and has field offices in D.C., San Francisco, and New York City.

The first court appearance for the illegal immigrant accused of murdering Loyola University Chicago student Sheridan Gorman last Thursday was delayed after he was hospitalized with tuberculosis, <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/03/23/jose-medina-sheridan-gorman-loyola-court/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Chicago Tribune.
Jose Medina-Medina, 25, allegedly approached the college freshman wearing a black mask around 1 a.m. and fired one round as she tried to run. Gorman&#8217;s family said the 18-year-old student was walking with friends to see the Northern Lights when she was fatally shot.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed Sunday that Medina crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally in May 2023 and was subsequently released into the country. He then ended up in Chicago, where he allegedly shoplifted from a local Macy&#8217;s in June 2023, <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/03/21/loyola-chicago-shooting-suspect/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Chicago Tribune.
A judge issued a warrant for Medina&#8217;s arrest after he failed to show up for his hearing in that case, the outlet reported.
Authorities identified Medina as the suspect in Gorman&#8217;s murder after identifying his &#8220;distinct limp,&#8221; the Tribune reported. He was seen without his mask in surveillance video taken after the shooting inside an apartment building.
Gorman&#8217;s family said that the suspect should never have been out on the streets.
“We are gravely disappointed by the policies and failures that allowed this individual to remain in a position to commit this crime,” they said. “When systems fail — whether through release decisions, lack of coordination, or unwillingness to act — the consequences are not abstract. They are real. And in our case, they are permanent.”
President Donald Trump gave his first <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-doesnt-hold-back-when-daily-wire-asks-about-loyola-murder-suspect-and-biden-era-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> on Gorman&#8217;s killing while speaking with The Daily Wire on Monday.
“It’s devastating. These people were let in by Biden. We’re getting them out. We’re getting them out fast. That’s why ICE is so important. They are doing such a good job,” Trump told Daily Wire reporter Mary Margaret Olohan, who was part of the presidential press pool. “This animal, I saw the whole thing last night. They gave me a briefing.”
“This person came in through the open-door policy of Joe Biden. We’re taking them out by the tens of thousands. We’re doing a great job. It’s a shame. They’ve hurt our country,” Trump said.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer with local authorities, which is not expected to yield any action due to sanctuary laws.
“Sheridan Gorman had her whole life ahead of her before this cold-blooded killer decided to end her life. She was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who RELEASED this illegal alien TWICE before he went on to commit this heinous murder,” Acting Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement Sunday.
“We are calling on Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago’s sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing this criminal illegal alien from jail back into American neighborhoods,” Bis added.
Pritzker&#8217;s office released its first statement on Gorman&#8217;s killing Tuesday afternoon.
“Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving the senseless murder of Sheridan Gorman. Violent crime has no place in our streets, and we expect the alleged perpetrator to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,&#8221; a spokesperson for Pritzker told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;The Trump Administration needs to stop politicizing heinous tragedies and instead focus on real solutions, like reinstating federal funds to prevent violence that support our public safety efforts,&#8221; the spokesperson added.
Medina faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder in the first degree, three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, and one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the Tribune.

A Venezuelan illegal immigrant who was released into the country by the Biden administration has been identified as the suspect in the fatal Thursday shooting of Loyola University Chicago student Sheridan Gorman, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2026/03/22/ice-asks-governor-pritzker-and-chicago-sanctuary-politicians-not-release-criminal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Sunday.
Jose Medina-Medina, 25, was arrested after he allegedly approached the college freshman, wearing black clothes and a black mask, before firing one round as she tried to run, according to DHS.
Medina was released into the country after crossing the border illegally in May 2023, DHS said. The Venezuelan national then allegedly shoplifted from a local Macy&#8217;s in June 2023, <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/03/21/loyola-chicago-shooting-suspect/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Chicago Tribune.
He failed to appear for his hearing in that case, leading the judge to issue a warrant.
As of September 2023, the warrant was still outstanding, according to the Tribune.
The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday while the 18-year-old student was walking with friends to see the Northern Lights, her family said.
Police identified Medina because of his &#8220;distinct limp,&#8221; the Tribune reported. He was also seen without a mask in surveillance video taken inside an apartment building after the shooting.
DHS is now pressuring sanctuary authorities in Illinois to not release the migrant monster. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer has been lodged with local police, who are not expected to honor it, due to sanctuary laws.
“Sheridan Gorman had her whole life ahead of her before this cold-blooded killer decided to end her life. She was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who RELEASED this illegal alien TWICE before he went on to commit this heinous murder,” Acting Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement.
“We are calling on Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago’s sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing this criminal illegal alien from jail back into American neighborhoods,&#8221; Bis added.
Gorman, a business student who hailed from New York, was involved in the Christian campus group Cru.
Her grieving family said she had “a way of leaving people better than she found them&#8221; and that she “was exactly where she should have been — close to campus, surrounded by friends, living her life.&#8221;
“What happened to Sheridan cannot be reduced to the idea of someone being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” the statement said. “This is not an abstraction. This is the loss of a daughter. The loss of a sister. The loss of a future filled with milestones that will now never come. Our family is forever changed,&#8221; they added.
After learning that the suspect is a Venezuelan national, Gorman&#8217;s family called for &#8220;accountability&#8221; in the case.
&#8220;As the case moves forward toward arraignment, the family has been informed that the suspect is a Venezuelan national and additional information is expected to be released. We are again faced with the unbearable truth: our daughter’s life was taken, and our family will never be the same,&#8221; they said, <a href="https://x.com/CB_Cotton/status/2035734449548083216" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Fox News.
&#8220;We recognize that the arraignment represents a formal step in the justice process, and we appreciate the work of law enforcement in bringing the case to this point. Joseph Duggar, a member of the Duggar family made famous on the TLC reality series “19 Kids and Counting,” has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor.
The 31-year-old Arkansas native was arrested on Wednesday for a crime that allegedly took place in 2020. Duggar is accused of assaulting a 9-year-old girl in Panama City Beach, Florida, while the child was on vacation with her family.
Authorities allege that Duggar asked the victim to sit on his lap and proceeded to sexually assault her. 
&#8220;As the vacation continued, he also asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket. During this time, Duggar manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals. Duggar would also continue to rub his hands on her thighs,&#8221; the Bay County Sheriff&#8217;s Office said in a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BayCountySO/posts/pfbid02rCrB7aDfBCs3xgHq8V48mHN57R37Sp4h6pu8T42xDL2svN8aeXHHPZxpBFaTGZFCl?rdid=bbHODmWHjB0494vM#">statement</a>. &#8220;The victim stated Duggar eventually apologized for his actions and the incidents stopped after the apology.&#8221; 
According to authorities, the victim&#8217;s father later confronted Duggar about the alleged abuse, prompting Duggar to admit to those actions.
Duggar was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior, molestation of a victim younger than 12 years old, and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older, the statement noted.
Joseph is the seventh child in a family of 19 children. These accusations come almost four years after Joseph’s older brother, Josh Duggar, was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison on charges of possession of child pornography in 2022. Josh was also accused of sexually abusing five girls, including several of his sisters.
The TLC reality series was canceled in 2015 following revelations that Josh molested his sisters and a babysitter when he was a teen. Josh also admitted to cheating on his wife and issued a public apology.
TLC introduced a spinoff series, &#8220;Counting On,&#8221; which was mostly about two sisters from the Duggar family. It was also canceled following Josh&#8217;s 2021 arrest.
Joseph works as a real estate broker and has been married to Kendra since 2017, per <a href="https://people.com/joseph-duggar-wife-children-what-to-know-11929551" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a>. The couple has three children together and possibly a fourth, though they stopped sharing their lives on social media several years ago and did not publicly announce another birth.
