Pop star Katy Perry doesn’t want to outsource motherhood to her nanny — at least, not completely.

The 37-year-old singer explained her parenting perspective during an appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast this week, per Page Six.

“I am working a lot, and I’ve always worked a lot,” Perry said. “I have a wonderful nanny, but I don’t have a full-time nanny because I feel like if I had a full-time nanny then I would never be able to know how to care for my daughter like I’m meant to.”

Perry went on to tell the audience how she gets up early with her daughter Daisy Dove, who recently turned 2, and does regular parenting duties like any other mom.

“It doesn’t matter if I’ve had a show that goes to 11 p.m. the night before, I’m waking up at 6 o’clock and we’re gonna go and do breakfast,” she said. “And yes, I have the no-sleep shakes, but I’m doing mom mode today.”

The “Fireworks” singer shares her daughter with fiance Orlando Bloom. During the interview, she discussed how Daisy is starting to learn new words at a quick pace, which makes Perry feel emotional.

“She’s 2, so she’s at the point where she’s saying new words every day,” she said. “And the other day she was saying some words that I didn’t teach her, and I was like ‘Damn it. That doesn’t feel good.’”

This wasn’t the first time Perry talked about how she approached her motherhood role.

“I try to start my day out with my daughter, playing and having some floor time with her. Reading some books. It usually varies what time we’re waking up, 7 or 8 a.m,” Perry told the Wall Street Journal in November 2021. “Sometimes I get to sleep in and Daddy takes her until 9, which is super. But we do breakfast together.”

Besides taking time to raise her daughter, Perry has also discussed how Hollywood doesn’t represent most of the nation. The Daily Wire previously reported on the pop star moving to Kentucky and gaining perspective.

“I’m like, living in Kentucky, and I have for almost a month now. And that’s quite an amazing experience. Because it reminds you that Hollywood is not America,” Perry told Chelsea Handler during an interview in May. She described Los Angeles as a “bubble.”

“You need to remember that,” Perry continued. “Because I think you can understand people better.”
