Jamie Lee Curtis announced that she’s referring to her new Oscars trophy as “they/them” in honor of her 27-year-old child, who identifies as transgender.

The actress recently nabbed the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role in “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Curtis appeared on “Today” and was asked by host Savannah Guthrie if she had named her golden statue.

“I’m in support of my daughter Ruby. I’m having them be a they/them,” Curtis said while getting emotional, per Variety. “I’m going to just call them ‘them.’ They/them, and they are doing great, they’re settling in, and I just, in my life, I never saw it in a million years that I’d have this couple days, and I’m very moved by the whole thing.”

Ruby Guest is one of two children Curtis has with her husband, Christopher Guest. The couple also has a 36-year-old daughter named Annie.

The “Halloween” actress spoke with People in 2021 about Ruby identifying as transgender.

“It’s speaking a new language,” Curtis told the publication at the time. “It’s learning new terminology and words. I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it. And I’m going to blow it, I’m going to make mistakes. I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes. … You slow your speech down a little. You become a little more mindful about what you’re saying. How you’re saying it. You still mess up, I’ve messed up today twice. We’re human.”

“But if one person reads this, sees a picture of Ruby and me and says, ‘I feel free to say this is who I am,’ then it’s worth it,” the actress concluded.

Curtis also said there was “no room for argument” when it came to transgender rights. She shared a screenshot of Pedro Pascal’s Instagram post on March 5 and wrote in the caption, “It is absolutely F***ED witnessing the ongoing normalization of eliminationist transphobia.”

“The right’s war on queer people, most specifically trans people, is both bizarre and abhorrent,” she continued. “There is no debate to argue here. Trans people have been here forever and aren’t going anywhere. There is no ideology here. It’s simple. Trans rights are human rights. Anything stating the contrary is wrong.”

Curtis was at the center of a scandal earlier this year after she posted a photo that included a piece of artwork featuring a naked child submerged in a plastic bin full of water. The piece is called “The Tub” (2003) and is attributed to artist Betsy Schneider.

The actress later deleted the photo and apologized for posting it. “It’s a picture of a child, taken by her mother, of her playing in their backyard in a tub of water. Nothing more, nothing less. I took down the post because I didn’t want to keep something up that upset anyone,” she wrote in part as an explanation.
