The education center founded at Boston University by leftist academic and Critical Race Theory proponent Ibram X. Kendi will be firing staffers, according to a new report.
Between 15-20 staffers at Boston University’s Center for Antiracist Research will be fired, according to Semafor. Kendi, the author of books like “Antiracist Baby” and “How to be an Antiracist,” is “committed to working with and supporting affected employees as they look for their next opportunities,” according to BU spokesman Colin Riley.
The center was launched by Kendi shortly after the death of George Floyd in May 2020. According to Riley, the center will be transitioning to a “fellowship model” and would soon have new details on this “new direction.” The Washington Free Beacon reported that as many as 45 employees worked at the center, which describes its mission as “building an antiracist society that ensures equity and justice for all.”
The center sponsors projects like creating “antiracism curriculum,” an “antiracist book festival,” and “antiracism training for the workforce.”
“The Center for Antiracist Research is a full-service organization that translates antiracist ideas into action by unifying research, policy, narrative, and advocacy efforts. We take a rigorous, research-based, and integrative approach to transforming a racist society to an antiracist one,” the center says about itself, adding that the center is where “academic research meets antiracist action.”
Kendi has developed a career pushing Critical Race Theory through books and speaking engagements. In 2021, the MacArthur Foundation announced that Kendi would be receiving a $625,000 five year grant for research. Kendi, who says that America is systemically racist, often charges steep fees for speaking engagements.

For example, in November 2021, he charged $25,000 for a speech at the Virginia Governor’s Housing Conference.
“Some of us are living in that liberated closet and there are many communities and organizations who have created very nice living rooms,” Kendi said with regard to restructuring America. “But the actual bedrooms and basement and kitchen and attic and everywhere else is [sic] deeply racist. There’s this perspective that it’s impossible to indeed tear down the house and build it.”
At another event in Virginia, Kendi charged $32,500 for a one-hour lecture at the University of Virginia where he discussed “racial equity.”
He argues that whites must acknowledge their privilege and implicit bias, as well as America’s systemic racism, to oppose racism.
