Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Seth Moulton (MA) said during a CNN town hall event on Sunday night that Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams lost her gubernatorial race in 2018 because America was racist.
“If this country wasn’t racist, Stacey Abrams would be governor,” Moulton said in Atlanta. “People of color are being systemically denied the most basic right in a democracy, which is the right to vote.”
Abrams has largely been in denial about her loss to Republican Brian Kemp, who beat her by over 54,000 votes back in November.
Abrams has refused to concede the election because she claims without evidence that the election was stolen from her through voter suppression, despite the fact that Georgia had record voter turnout for the election.
Abrams, who has repeatedly falsely claimed that she won the election, said in 2016 that it was “disturbing” and “distressing” that then-candidate Donald Trump potentially might not accept the results of the presidential election.
Abrams has had a hard time accepting the reality of the outcome of the election, saying that following the loss she “spent that 10-day period plotting.”
“Revenge can be very cathartic,” she added.

Moulton also said during his town hall event that he wanted to ban “weapons of war,” which is code for semi-automatic firearms, and that he was prepared to take executive action or declare a national emergency to strip Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
“And whether it’s declaring a national emergency or pursuing executive action, I will do whatever I can to actually make progress on this gun violence plague in America,” Moulton said.
Moulton later said that the shooting late last week near Virginia Beach was an indicator that America’s gun laws are broken, despite the fact that the shooter did not have any criminal background, according to The New York Times.
“The fact that he was able to purchase the guns legally makes me say maybe we got some problems with our gun laws,” Moulton said.
