CNN Announces Presidential Town Hall With Nikki Haley
Former South Carolina Republican Governor Nikki Haley will participate in a presidential town hall with CNN next month, the cable news network announced on Wednesday.
The event is scheduled to take place in the early-voting state of Iowa on Sunday, June 4, at 8 p.m. ET, according to a press release. Jake Tapper, a CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent, is expected to moderate.
“Haley, who also served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in the Trump administration, will take questions from Tapper and a live audience which is comprised of Iowa Republicans and Iowa voters, who say they will pre-register to participate in the Republican caucuses by the deadline set by the Republican Party of Iowa; and pledge to appear in person at the caucuses,” the press release said.
CNN held its first Republican presidential town hall earlier this month with former President Donald Trump in New Hampshire, a move that stoked leftist outrage. That broadcast drew more than 3 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings, and made headlines for Trump’s comments about Ukraine, the debt ceiling, and clash with anchor Kaitlan Collins.
During the first couple months of Haley’s campaign, CNN became involved in controversy when now-fired anchor Don Lemon said Haley was not “in her prime.” He was responding to Haley advocating for mental competency tests for politicians over the age of 75. Haley shot back with a tweet. “To be clear, I am NOT calling for competency tests for Sexist middle-aged CNN anchors; only for people who make our laws and are 75+,” she posted.
Haley, who has also called for a “national consensus” on abortion, is averaging about 4% in the GOP primary polls. Trump leads the field, per the FiveThirtyEight.

There are a number of other GOP candidates in the race, including entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson. Others who are either expected to enter the contest or are considering a campaign include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
CNN says it plans to announce additional town halls in the coming weeks.
