Actor Chris Hemsworth is facing backlash after posting a photo of one of his 9-year-old twin sons getting a cake smashed in his face on his birthday.

The “Thor: Love and Thunder” star shared the image of himself with his wife, Elsa Pataky, and their three children celebrating the occasion. Their twin sons turned 9 on March 20.

“Happy 9th birthday to my two little men! Only one way to eat cake in this house and that’s to have mum slam your head into it face first!! ‘Hey mum I don’t like chocolate cake I prefer vanilla’ ‘oh really son, what about now’?” Hemsworth wrote in the image caption.

Some followers weren’t thrilled that the Marvel star was promoting the “violent” practice of cake smashing.

“Yeah, not cool. I would never want another birthday cake in my life. Also, its rude to everyone else who might be eating that cake (or what’s left of it). Its gross, rude, and a good way to ruin your kid’s birthdays for the rest of their lives,” one commenter wrote.

“It’s so violent,” another user said, while another weighed in, saying, “That’s not funny.”

“Does anyone here want cake all over their face? didn’t think so. Why would your kid? And it’s so wasteful. So you’re going to throw a perfectly good cake away after the stupid not funny prank?” another person echoed.

Some of Hemsworth’s followers defended his actions, with many pointing out that cake smashing could be a cultural tradition for Pataky, who is from Spain.

“How have we come this far as a species only to get more and more sissified?! This is funny and fun,” one commenter argued. “You know your kids and you know their limits. That boy probably thought this was hilarious.”

“It’s part of Hispanic/Latino culture,” another account observed.

Mexican actress Salma Hayek explained the origins of the “la mordida” tradition during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson show in 2021.

“When the cake comes you make a wish, you blow the candle and then you take a bite of the cake and then somebody behind you whacks you in the head and puts your face inside of the cake. It’s very normal in Mexico,” she said at the time.

“Mordida” means “bite” in Spanish.
