Love him or hate him, we can’t ignore that when it comes to parenting, Donald Trump seems to be a pretty good father. The proof is evident in the behavior of his kids. Certainly, kids who have an ax to grind don’t act like his kids do.
First, adult sons and daughters who harbor deep anger toward a parent never speak highly of him or her, regardless of how famous they are. In fact, fame can be an ideal opportunity for angry kids to humiliate their parents. Trump’s older kids, Eric, Ivanka, and Donald Jr. don’t behave this way. In fact, they have no reason to publicly support their father so enthusiastically other than the belief that their father is a good and capable man. Sure, they may want to applaud him to further their own careers, but they don’t need to do this. They are each highly successful on their own. If they had lukewarm sentiments about their dad, they would at least fade into the background. But they haven’t. They have taken advantage of large public platforms to convince us that he has strong character and extraordinarily strong abilities to improve America. They wouldn’t do this if they believed that his intentions were other than altruistic. The fact that they have successfully convinced millions of Americans that he has what it takes to lead our country can only come from sincere sentiments.
Second, both his daughter-in-law and son-in-law are two of his most ardent supporters. How many in-laws boast about their father-in-law not only privately, but also publicly? Lara has no motive to boast other than genuine admiration and Jared could certainly stay silent.
When it comes to his business life, Trump puts his grown kids front and center. Fathers who want to dominate the spotlight, don’t do this. They own the public space and keep their adult kids in the background, in part, to avoid the risk that their kids will make derogatory statements about them. Trump takes the risk because he is confident they won’t humiliate or criticize him. He knows they will always support him.
When Trump’s older kids were young, he protected them from the paparazzi. He worked to keep his kids out of the spotlight until they wanted to jump into it of their own volition. His first three kids went away to school so that the press would leave them alone. Tiffany and Barron now enjoy that same privacy so they too can live their own lives. The president-elect could easily push all of them into the spotlight to make himself look like a good father, but he doesn’t. Eric, Ivanka, and Donald Jr., along with Lara Trump, put themselves in the public and political arenas to bolster President-elect Trump’s career.
When it comes to raising his family, Trump appears to have nothing to hide. Most fathers would be afraid to give their kids the freedom to say what they want about their dad. Who among us would have the confidence to give our kids such a large media presence to say whatever they want about us? Not me. Only a father who feels confident about the job he has done would do so.
Many divorced couples carry resentment and anger after their breakup with their spouse and psychologists know how damaging the animosity can be on the couple’s kids. Donald has kept his kids from a lot of pain by embracing friendships with his two ex-wives. And while Ivana Trump passed away in 2022, we still see photos of Marla Maples, Melania, and Donald standing together smiling for the camera at Tiffany Trump’s wedding.
The peculiar thing about the president-elect’s life is that he seems to have successfully split himself into two men: the father and the political genius. In his former role, he appears to have worked hard at having close relationships with his kids. To the best of his ability, he has tried to spend as much time as possible with them. This is no easy task when you are running a multi-million-dollar real estate empire and then while being president. Succeeding at both takes impossible time and energy and yet, with these challenges, he has somehow stayed close with his kids.

The other side of Trump is hard to applaud. He has been accused of multiple incidents of sexual harassment and harmful sexual behavior toward women. He has admitted to being a poor husband at times, and his numerous public affairs with women confirm this. Good husbands don’t cheat on their wives or sexually harass other women. The peculiar part is that his five kids know this and still publicly support and encourage him. This occurs only because, in some genuinely incredible feat, Trump has found a way to communicate to his kids that being their father is a much higher priority than even being a husband, businessman, or politician. His life as a father is completely separate from his work life, and his kids must feel this. If they refused to forgive or ignore his deep flaws they would take every opportunity to denounce him on the worldwide stage.
Donald Trump is a complex man. He is both a good man and a villain. This is hard for people to understand. The truth is, however, that we are all complex beings. Like him, we are not simply good or evil, kind or cruel. We are both. Certainly, as a man, Trump has made poor decisions, and offended many people to the point where they despise him. But clearly, he has done something well when it comes to his kids. And their behavior is a testimony to his personal success as a father.

New details are emerging about the suspect in the shooting that took place at Abundant Life Christian School.
The Washington Post has <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/12/17/madison-wisconsin-school-shooter-natalie-rupnow/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on the “troubled home life” of the shooter:
<blockquote>The 15-year-old girl who killed two people and wounded six others at her small Christian school here Monday had a turbulent home life, according to court records, which show that her parents divorced and remarried multiple times and that she had been enrolled in therapy. …
“There are always signs of a school shooting before it occurre[s],” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said at a Tuesday news conference, where he asked the public for patience as authorities investigated [the suspect’s] social media activity and state of mind leading up to the rampage. 
The teen is one of just nine female school shooters in the last 25 years, according to a database maintained by The Post. She is also among the younger recent shooters. … [The suspect’s] father is a Christian who often shared pictures of his dogs and his daughter, according to a review of his Facebook profile. …
But one post, from August, has attracted more scrutiny than others. In it, a photo appears to show [the suspect] wielding a gun and taking aim at a firing range. </blockquote>
Obviously, this means the Left is going to name and focus on gun control as the chief issue.
But, it seems to me, there is a bigger issue here: family turmoil.
I know these are the issues we are not supposed to discuss in American life. We are supposed to believe in a libertarian social ethos that says: When parents have a child and they break up for their own well-being and for the preservation of their own happiness, that has no impact on children whatsoever.
This has been a lie since it started in the 1950s and 1960s in the United States. The divorce rate in those days was significantly lower than the current divorce rate. Today, the divorce rate in the United States shows roughly half of all marriages end in divorce.

Many people will divorce and remarry multiple times. According to The Washington Post&#8217;s review of court records, the suspect&#8217;s parents first married in 2011, about two years after she was born. All social science demonstrates that living together before marriage is often a bad idea because it is an indication that people are not willing to make the commitment to marry before having a child.
Marriage should be the predicate for sleeping together and then having children. I acknowledge these are old-fashioned ideas, but they existed for a reason, just as social institutions did. It was deemed a smart idea to get married before living together because it channeled sexual passions into family building.
A man had to give up his waywardness and make a commitment to a woman before getting one of the things he wanted out of the relationship with the woman. And it meant a woman would have to be pretty discerning about just with whom she chose to have sex, as doing so could result in pregnancy.
The opposite perspective has been quite bad for the West in general. We have declining birth rates, unhappy families, broken families. None of this has been a boon to the West as a general matter, despite all of the West&#8217;s promises that a libertarian sexual ethos would make everyone happier.
Zero evidence exists that a libertarian sexual ethos makes everyone happier. General happiness surveys across the West show a radical decline since the 1970s, particularly among women who are supposed to be the people most liberated by the new sexual ethos.
In this particular case, the mother of the suspect had been previously married and divorced; then, she had another daughter with a different man, to whom she was never married. Court records indicate this girl had other permanent legal guardians. The half sister is now 20-years-old. The suspect&#8217;s parents divorced for the first time in 2014, agreeing to joint legal custody of their shared daughter, but specifying she would live primarily with her mom.
From the Post:
<blockquote>The couple remarried in 2017 and divorced for a second time in 2020, again agreeing to share custody but, the court records show, dividing [the suspect’s] time more evenly between them. During this period, [the suspect] would spend two days with her father, two with her mother, then three more with her father, before reversing the schedule the following week.
Shortly after [the suspect’s] parents split up for the second time, the couple remarried once more. But by April 2021 they were petitioning for a third divorce. A judge granted it a month later but noted that “parties [were] admonished concerning remarriage,” according to court records.
After seeking mediation to determine custody of [the suspect], they agreed in July 2022 that they would share legal custody but that the girl would now live mostly with her father. By this time, [the suspect] had been enrolled in therapy, which was supposed to help guide decisions about which parent she would spend weekends with, the records show. 
The 2022 custody papers said [the suspect’s] parents were on cordial terms. “The parents report a generally positive co-parenting relationship,” the document reads, “and will continue to communicate with one another by text messages and phone conversations.” </blockquote>
Let&#8217;s get real: It doesn&#8217;t matter if mommy and daddy get along when they&#8217;re not living together. What matters is the impact on the child.
This is what happens when the actual value of marriage is substituted for a transitory perception of passion and romance. Marriage is not built predominantly on feelings. It is predominantly built on duty. 
I know this is a strange idea to many people who are living in the post-modern West. But the reality of the world is that marriage was built on commitment.
Marriage itself is an institution that requires fealty to the institution, not merely to the other person who is part of the institution. This bizarre notion that marriage was supposed to be about a sort-of formalization of romantic love as opposed to a shared value system that was capable of building the next generation is a wrong idea.
And it has been a mistake for the West to embrace that.
Romance is an enormous part of marriage. But it is not the chiefly important part of marriage when children become secondary as opposed to the primary purpose. Not only is marriage defeated, but the children are also defeated.
The idea of romance being the primary focus of marriage took hold during the Romantic Period in the 19th century. But it turned out that human biology thwarted the plans of romantic love to overcome the institution of marriage. The institution, like all institutions built by civilization, was built by human beings in order to channel human passions. Then, they were made sacred by human beings in order to civilize their passions.
We build entire civilizations in order to channel those passions in positive directions. One of the most fervent passions people have is the passion for sexual relationships. It&#8217;s very powerful.
It can also be incredibly destructive. This is why marriage is such an important institution. The institution of marriage channels that passion toward the production and rearing of children, as opposed to simply leaving little boys and girls all over the landscape without proper mothers and fathers in functioning households.
Treating women poorly is what happens in a free-love system, which is how women currently feel. They feel men treat them like trash.
And many of the men are looking at the system saying it’s a consensual system. What&#8217;s the problem?
The answer is that the consent women are typically looking for is not merely sexual consent. It is consent to a long-term relationship that is meaningful, spiritual, and purposeful.
When a society lacks these things, the result is tremendous human suffering, true human suffering.

This belief in a concept of “free divorce, easy living, get back together, break up, get back together, break up, find new partners, and the kids will just be fine, because, you know, kids can take it,” is a blight.
The kids can take it? No, you can take it. You&#8217;re the adult.
Is what happened in the school shooting the parents’ fault? Given the fact they were living the way they lived, it’s a reasonable question.
If you treat your children like a bizarre form of chattel, shuttling them between parent and parent because you want to live your best life, guess what? Things go wrong.
Once you have kids, you are no longer first priority. You&#8217;re not even second priority. As a father, you’re third priority. First priority: your kids. Second priority: your wife. And then comes you.
A disproportionate number of people who commit these types of acts are children of broken homes. And it turns out a disproportionate number of people who commit violent crimes are also products of broken homes.
Longstanding social science data indicates delinquency radically increases when no father is present in the home. Crime radically increases; teenage pregnancy radically increases.
This is what happens when a society decides it is very important to disengage from the institutions and civilization that channeled passions and, instead, just humor those passions and let everything else be left by the wayside.
I think the American people are ready for a serious conversation about what the good life looks like. There&#8217;s a lot of talk in politics these days about the common good and what we all hold together. What is it? What is sacred? What ought to be put beyond political debate?
It used to be beyond political debate that family comes first.
I think the American people are tired of all this, tired of the deep libertarian sexual ethos. I think we are in the middle of what could be a cultural renaissance.
That kinship principle — to be with your family in your home, to raise your children so that their children will have healthy children, to build familial wealth over the course of generations, to sit on the porch when you&#8217;re 80 years old with your grandkids playing in the yard, to know you lived a good, dutiful, purposeful life and will continue contributing to future generations — that is what Americans yearn for.
Because without it, the country falls apart.

Southern California parents blasted their kids’ school after a math teacher at Rancho Buena Vista high school gave his students an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lgbtq" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LGBTQ</a> assignment in which they were to pick either being gay or lesbian and “coming out.”
During a <a href="https://x.com/libsoftiktok/status/1869259297370308749">school meeting</a> on Tuesday, parents spoke out at a Vista Unified School District meeting over what was labeled as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-dei" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DEI</a>) assignment given to freshman in an elective seminar class that was supposedly to deal with teaching kids how to be socially current, <a href="https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/vista-parents-speak-out-against-controversial-lesson/3703469/">NBC7 San Diego</a> reported.
According to photos of the instruction, students were told, “Stand in a circle. Each of you is now gay or lesbian, and you are about to begin your coming out process. You cannot talk for the rest of this activity.&#8221;
“I don’t see how this is part of the California curriculum for education,&#8221; parent James Leon told board members. &#8220;There is nothing that it does other than groom children.”

“It’s not okay. It’s disgusting and it should not be allowed,” he added. “I don’t think this assignment should ever be taught to any children. It’s does not do anything other than groom them. It should not be allowed. Anybody who teaches this should be fired immediately.”
Leon said when his daughter got the assignment, she told him “right away when she got home. She said, &#8216;Dad, you have to hear this.&#8217; She wanted to show me what was going on because she knows I am not for teaching any of that stuff in school.&#8221;

Leon’s daughter was one of six kids who walked out of the classroom after being given the instruction. He was joined by others who spoke out about it at the meeting, including a bus driver with the school district.
&#8220;I am totally disgusted,&#8221; a district bus driver said. &#8220;I am ashamed I work for the district, and you guys allow this to happen in our schools.&#8221;
One teacher spoke out in support of the assignment and against the criticism the school has faced after the instructions were shared on social media.
&#8220;People with no connection to our community or even our state have started to flood RBV social media accounts with additional unfounded accusations and slanderous statements,” the teacher said.

A Father’s Tragic Fight To Save His Son From Gender Ideology

We have talked a lot over the years about the decline in the birthrate and the rapidly increasing number of young adults who are refusing to get married and have children. As much as we’ve discussed the subject, we still have not discussed it enough. It is one of the great crises facing our civilization at the present moment. When a society gives up on having children, it has given up on its future, given up on itself.
Of course, plenty of people are still having children. We haven’t entered full on &#8220;Children of Men&#8221; territory quite yet. Our population is still growing, just as the population of the world is still growing. But that growth is slowing. And we have long since crossed the crucial threshold where our fertility rate is now below replacement level. We are no longer having enough babies to replace older people as they die off. As a consequence, our population itself grows older and more top heavy. All kinds of complications follow form this, and those complications quickly turn into catastrophes. 
We have discussed many aspects of this problem. But it’s a problem so deep and all-encompassing that there are always going to be new dimensions to explore. A few days ago, the New York Times, engaging in another random act of journalism (as Rush Limbaugh used to call it), published a piece homing in on a facet of the birth rate decline that, until now, hadn’t gotten much press, if any at all. The <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/11/well/family/grandparent-grandchild-childfree.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article is titled</a>: “The Unspoken Grief of Never Becoming a Grandparent.” The piece, by Catherine Pearson, has gotten a decidedly mixed reaction. Some people — myself included — found it to be a profoundly sad yet very empathetic and very interesting look at a group of people who are suffering in a unique way from our society’s plummeting birth rate. But other people were angry and offended, for reasons we’ll talk about in a moment. 
First let’s read a bit of this: 
<blockquote>“Lydia Birk, 56, has held on to her favorite copy of “The Velveteen Rabbit” since her three children — now in their 20s and 30s — were young. 
She loved being a stay-at-home mother, and filled her family’s home with books. (All of her children could read before they started school, Ms. Birk recalled with pride.) She hoped one day to be a “cool” grandma who would share her favorite stories with a new generation. 
But none of her children want to have kids. And though that decision is “right for them,” Ms. Birk said, it still breaks her heart. “I don’t have young children anymore, and now I’m not going to have grandchildren,” she said. “So that part of my life is just over.” 
Like Ms. Birk, a growing number of Gen Xers and baby boomers are facing the sometimes painful fact that they are never going to become grandparents. A little more than half of adults 50 and older had at least one grandchild in 2021, down from nearly 60 percent in 2014. Amid <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/31/health/fertility-births-vance.html">falling birthrates</a>, more U.S. adults say they’re <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/25/well/mind/child-free-adults-pew-study.html">unlikely to ever have children</a> for a variety of reasons, chief among them: They just don’t want to.”</blockquote>
The article continues with more anecdotes along these lines. I won’t post them all here. But you should read them for yourself. They’re quite sad. And quite illuminating. There are many older people these days with children who swear they will never have children of their own. The reasons they give for remaining childless are all very similar. They point to the economy, the state of the world, climate change, and so on. None of them feel they have any obligation to have kids and carry on the family name and the bloodline. They are thinking only about themselves and what would make them most comfortable. And they’ve decided that they are most comfortable being childless and alone. Their parents will just have to deal with the loneliness and grief. That’s the general attitude.

It’s also the attitude of many commenters on this article. There’s plenty of sympathy for the would-be grandparents. But there’s also a lot of this sort of thing: 
<blockquote>Boo hoo.  Get over yourself.  I chose not to have children.  That is/was my choice, which was clear from day one with my spouse.  He married me on those terms.  I am not responsible for my parents&#8217; happiness, they are.  They tried to guilt me into it during the first few years I was married but eventually gave up.  It was never their choice to make.</blockquote>
A similar message in this comment: 
<blockquote>I feel it is extremely self centered of any person who expects others to make decisions that will make them happy. Too many parents try to live their lives vicariously through their children. Children do not owe their parents everything. Besides, many of us were forced to babysit our younger siblings. I had 18 years of watching my 3 younger siblings AND having to work in my mother&#8217;s day care center! My God, if I had had my own children I would have ended up spending my entire life raising children. My purpose in life is not to watch/raise children. With the recent parental theory/practice of making the oldest child the &#8216;third parent&#8217; (making them help raise their younger siblings) you can expect that more people will reject parenthood when they become adults.</blockquote>
I have to clarify one thing here. It is a not a “recent theory” that older children should help care for their younger siblings. This is in fact how all human societies have worked since the dawn of our species. This commenter is suggesting that “more people” are rejecting parenthood because they were raised in the same way that billions of humans have been raised since time immemorial. This is a common theme. People with absolutely no understanding of human history have decided that the challenges they have faced are utterly unprecedented, when in fact they haven’t dealt with a single thing that billions of other people haven’t also dealt with. And those billions of people had families in spite of it.
In any case, this article also went viral on X. The commentary there was very similar. 
A couple of examples: 
<blockquote>Unspoken? my parents never shut the f up about wanting grandkids. dont f up the economy for your children and then get surprised when they can&#8217;t afford kids.</blockquote>
Another one says: 
<blockquote>These grandparents should have built enough generational wealth so their kids would feel financially secure enough to start a family. &#8220;The unspoken grief of not being a trustfund nepobaby who can easily support a family.”</blockquote>
Obviously we hear this excuse constantly. We’re told that people aren’t having kids today because “the economy” makes it impossible. This person blames the brith rate decline on a lack of “generational wealth.” Let me reiterate a point I made on Twitter/X, which seems to have upset a lot of people. Now I’ll upset them again. The economy is not preventing anyone from starting a family or having children. I am not denying that the economy is in poor shape at the moment. But that is not a good reason for a society to give up on the family. If anything, it’s all the more reason not to give up.
You don’t need “generational wealth” to start a family. I didn’t have any generational wealth when I started mine. Many of you are familiar with my story. I was broke when I got married. The economy wasn’t exactly humming at the time either. We were just climbing out of the Great Recession. I was living in an apartment on a meager salary. So broke that I frequently had to pay for gas with the spare change in the cupholder in my car. We weren’t in much better shape when we had our first two kids. We didn’t buy our first house until we already had three kids. You do not need to be rich to start a family. You do not need to come from a rich family. You do not need a strong economy. Economies ebb and flow. They go up and they go down. If you ever have kids, it is guaranteed that you will have kids during a weak economy. It may be strong now, but you’ll still be a parent ten years from now when it dips again. It may be weak now, but you’ll be a parent ten years from now when it’s stronger. This is how economies work.
It’s why you can’t wait around for the economy to permit you to move on with your life and do the things that you are meant to do as a human being.
I share my own story as an example because it’s my story, but because I want you to know that I’ve actually done the thing I’m advocating for. But of course even at my brokest point I was still &#8220;rich&#8221; compared to the vast majority of humans who have ever lived on Earth. You, right now, no matter what your financial situation, are richer than almost everyone who has ever lived. People with fewer resources than you have been reproducing since the beginning of human civilization. Literally billions of people have done the thing that we are now told can&#8217;t be done unless you have $100,000 in savings. If people had this attitude in the past, the human species wouldn&#8217;t exist anymore.
So, you can’t afford to start a family? How can that be? How can it be that you can’t afford it, and yet billions of people have afforded it with less? How is it that you &#8220;can&#8217;t&#8221; do something that has been done under more difficult circumstance billions of times? I am often told by younger people that the situation now is just too difficult, everything is too expensive, I just don’t understand, I can’t relate. It’s like they think the history of the world started 45 minutes ago. If you think the challenges you face today are so unprecedented that they mean we should stop reproducing as a species then you simply have no understanding of world history. You don’t know what the world was like. You don’t know what your ancestors had to deal with. You don’t even know what people ten years older than you had to deal with.
People have been through recessions, depressions, famines, wars, catastrophes of all kinds. And they continued having children. They continued building families. Sure, fertility rates have gone up and down over the years and decades. But there has never been a time when mass amounts of young adults have simply sworn off parenthood altogether. That has never happened until now. 
Do you really think you face greater hurdles than your great great grandparents did during the Great Depression? Do you really think it’s harder to have a family now than it was when the Black Death was wiping out a third of the population of Europe? Yes, these days young families may struggle to buy a starter home. I did, too, in my early 20s. If there was ever a time when it was easy for someone in their 20s to afford a nice home, that time lasted for like 30 seconds 40 years ago. It was never like that before, and hasn’t been like it since. Get over it. Most people in the history of Earth could never dream of living in any kind of home at all. In fact, for most people who’ve ever lived, the greatest challenge in starting a family was that half of their kids wouldn’t live past infancy. And yet they still started families. They still forged on.

The truth is the economy isn’t stopping anyone from having kids. It’s not that they can’t afford it. It’s that they don’t want to make the sacrifices it requires. They’d have to give up a certain measure of comfort in order to start a family, and they don’t want to do that. For most of the people who say they can’t afford kids, that’s what they mean. That’s how we can end up in a situation where someone “Can’t afford kids” even though they are wealthier and more comfortable than billions of people who somehow could afford kids. 
What they really mean to say is they can’t afford the same level of luxury and comfort while also having kids. This is not a matter of affordability. It’s a matter of priority. A lot of people today prioritize their own pleasure and enjoyment over anything and everything else. 
The irony, of course, is they so often end up with far less pleasure and enjoyment than people who don’t prioritize it. The truth is you can start a family and have kids and then down the line end up far richer than you were when you were childless. I’m a testament to that. Millions of other examples are available. But one of the most basic realities of life is that if you want more, you have to be willing to risk what you already have. You have to put your chips on the table. If you won’t do that, you’ll be stuck in exactly the spot you’re in right now forever. Until eventually you lose that too. 
That brings me to the final point I want to make. We heard those responses to the New York Times article from people who insisted, quite indignantly, that they don’t owe it to anyone to have kids. But actually, you kind of do. Nobody will tell you this. 
Nobody will talk about the obligation to start a family. The idea that any of us have any obligations at all is of course anathema to the modern mind. We are deeply distressed by the thought that we owe anything to anyone, ever. But you can be distressed all you want. I’ll say what no one else will say to you: You do actually owe it. You have a duty. There are exceptions. Some people are called to a life of service apart from biological parenthood. Some people simply can’t have kids. There are other vocations human beings can have. But most of us are called to start families. And for those of us who are called, we do owe it, we do have a debt to pay.
Your ancestors suffered and bled and died to build the civilization you live in now, and give you all of the comforts and luxuries you take for granted. They lived lives that were, by our standards, brutal and short and impoverished. They built their lives by hand, from scratch. They built this civilization from scratch. You think you can’t afford children. You have a grandfather not all that far back in your lineage who built a one bedroom cabin by hand and shared it with your grandmother and 8 kids, one of whom gave birth to the person who gave birth to the person who gave birth to you. You experience more comfort and luxury in a single day then that man did in his entire life. His life would have been easier if he never had kids. But he had them, because he wanted you to exist. He was actually thinking 100 years into the future — 200 years, 300 years. You come from a long line of people who actually cared about what the world would look like in the distant future, even as you only care about what you’re going to have for lunch this afternoon.
You don’t have just one grandfather like that. Your bloodline was carried on through the centuries by men and women of this type. They carried your family name and your lineage and your history and everything that makes you, you — they carried it on their backs, and suffered for its sake. And now after all of that, after those thousands of years of struggle and strife just to bring you into this world, you’re going to shrug your shoulders and refuse to continue. They ran marathons, handed you the baton, and you’re going to just sit down in a lawn chair and say, “Sorry, you all wasted your efforts. The race ends here. I don’t feel like running.” You’re going to wipe out your lineage and bloodline just so that you have more time to watch Netflix? Thousands of years of toil end with you, by your own choice, because you just can’t be bothered. That is a failure of historic proportions. It is a failure to live up to your obligation. Because yes you have an obligation to the people who built this world — you have an obligation to continue what they built.
I’m not saying this is the most compelling argument. To a lot of people these days, the idea that they should have any respect for their ancestors, much less that have any obligations to them, is totally foreign. I realize that. We are a culture severed from its own past, living a perpetual state of now, as though the past never happened and the future will never happen. That’s how you end up with people who act as though they’re facing unprecedented financial hardships because they can’t afford to buy a three bedroom house at the age of 23. I understand all of that. But what I’m saying is still true, all the same.
So if your parents are sad that you aren’t giving them any grandchildren, this is why. They have every right to be sad. They are mourning not only their own loneliness, but also the fact that you are choosing to squander ten thousand years of work. They are mourning the extinction of their bloodline. And they are wondering what the point of any of this ever was, if it all ends like this, it all ends with you, for no good reason.

One of the founders of the world’s oldest and most respected <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/motherhood">breastfeeding</a> support group, La Leche League (LLL), has resigned due to the organization’s stance on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/transgender">men</a> being able to breastfeed.
Marian Tompson, 94, sent a letter to current senior leadership expressing how the group has become “a travesty of my original intent” and is now “indulging the fantasies of adults.” LLL is headquartered in North Carolina but has a presence in more than 80 countries.
“From an organization with the specific mission of supporting biological women who want to give their babies the best start in life by breastfeeding them, LLL’s focus has subtly shifted to include men who, for whatever reason, want to have the experience of breastfeeding, despite no careful long-term research on male lactation and how that may affect the baby.”
“This shift from following the norms of nature, which is the core of mothering through breastfeeding, to indulging the fantasies of adults, is destroying our organization,” the letter continued, per <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14070057/Founder-worlds-oldest-Breastfeeding-charity-QUITS-transgender-women.html">The Daily Mail</a>. 
Tompson said despite her efforts to redirect the effort, there was “nothing” she could do. The LLL founder added that she’s open to returning if the organization “returns to its original Mission and Purpose.”

La Leche League Great Britain trustee Miriam Main quit earlier this week over an inclusivity policy allowing trans-identifying men to attend their support groups. Main cited “bullying, lies, and cruelty of recent times” as the reason for her departure, per <a href="https://www.thetimes.com/uk/society/article/breastfeeding-charity-chief-quits-over-transgender-policy-zhvhl8nps">The Times</a>. 
Main said she refused to help biological men “perform a poor imitation of breastfeeding” and put babies’ lives at risk in the process. 
La Leche League was founded in 1956 with the stated purpose of helping provide mother-to-mother support and stressing the importance of breastfeeding through encouragement, information, and education. 
The official La Leche League <a href="https://llli.org/breastfeeding-info/transgender-non-binary-parents/">website</a> has a section dedicated to “transgender and nonbinary parents” that says the organization “supports everyone who wants to breastfeed or chestfeed in reaching their goals.”

I am one of countless women who are fighting a battle that was never meant to be ours alone. My journey began at the tender age of 17 when I brought my first child into this world without the safety net of family support. Today, I am the mother of three beautiful children, who are my heart and soul. I worked tirelessly in my twenties, juggling three jobs while attending night school to earn a bachelor’s degree. This pursuit for a better life left me with $60,000 in student debt — a shadow that looms large over my future.
Today, I gross $6,000 a month, working 15-20 hours of overtime each week. It’s an income I once idolized and aspired to during my studies, believing it was the key to making a name for myself. Yet, the harsh reality is that after taxes, $2,400 in rent, $800 in health insurance, $700 in childcare for my toddler, $400 in utilities, $250 in car insurance, and another $400 in legal fees each month — stemming from a bitter custody battle with my ex-husband — I find myself $1,900 in the red every month. I receive $400 in child support, but it barely scratches the surface of what’s needed.
I share these detailed financial numbers to underscore the stark reality that we are all confronting in this country. This isn&#8217;t just my struggle — it&#8217;s the shared plight of countless Americans burdened by an unforgiving economic system.
My car payment is an additional burden, an expensive necessity because financing a vehicle was cheaper than paying any amount in full for something I would own. I am using old food stamp money I had saved up for food when I lost my job last year, but that is dwindling and will run out in a month or so. Soon, I will have no money for food.
In the midst of these struggles, I watch in despair as politicians spend more time in political arenas fighting amongst themselves, rather than putting the needs of Americans like me at the forefront. I feel forgotten, as if my reality is not important to those who profit from the political use of the hurt that people like me endure.
I find myself ensnared in a relentless cycle, each day feeling like I am shackled in a form of modern-day slavery — laboring endlessly, knowing deep down that no matter how fiercely I fight, breaking free seems impossible. It&#8217;s as if my very essence is owned, my labor dictated, my freedom stolen by an unyielding system. This economy, this broken system, holds me captive, squeezing every ounce of strength from my soul as I desperately struggle to break free from the chains of my invisible master.

I write this not only as a call for change, but out of personal desperation. I hope that by voicing my struggles, I can somehow make sense of the daily battles I face, and in doing so, find a way to make them more bearable. Each word is a plea, a testament to the resilience I must muster every day, yearning for a glimmer of hope amidst the overwhelming darkness.
I am exhausted — mentally, physically, and emotionally. It feels as though all my energy is spent on mere survival and my relationship with my children suffers because of it. My health is deteriorating, and I can’t afford the copay to seek help. I make too much to qualify for state assistance, but not enough to survive.
In desperation, I&#8217;ve resorted to taking out small credit cards with excruciating interest rates, just to afford basic necessities. Yet, even these lifelines slip from my grasp as I let payments lapse, unable to keep up with the relentless financial demands. Each month, I sink deeper into a quicksand of debt, watching helplessly as it pulls me further under.
Every day, I send out numerous job applications, hoping to break through the algorithmic barriers that online hiring processes have erected. In a desperate bid to gain an edge, I pay for subscriptions to job board websites, yet the opportunities seem scarce in a sea where everyone is striving for the same lifeline. It&#8217;s a bitter pill to swallow knowing my teenage son has more in his savings than I do, and I wrestle with the urge to borrow from him just to afford basic necessities like laundry detergent.
I see women my age turning to platforms like OnlyFans, tempted by the possibility of financial relief. I hold onto my faith, my dignity, and my love for my children as a shield against that reality. Yet, the temptation lurks as bills pile up and my credit score plummets. Emails from creditors with &#8220;Payment Declined&#8221; messages haunt my inbox. My bank account teeters at $3, and payday is a mere cycle of temporary relief before the next wave of bills crashes in.
Each month, I face the agonizing decision of which bills to pay and which to defer, forced to prioritize their importance to my family&#8217;s immediate well-being. This constant juggling act leaves me perpetually behind, always scrambling to catch up, yet never quite able to break free. It&#8217;s a relentless cycle that chips away at my resolve, leaving me feeling defeated and powerless.
I ask you: How can it be that earning $60,000 to $70,000 a year leaves me scrapping for survival? Why are hardworking people like me stuck in a system that seems to reward the few at the expense of the many?
Each day, the dream of owning my own home slips further away. With every missed payment, my credit score plummets, and any chance of building savings evaporates. The soaring prices of homes stretch far beyond my reach, transforming the American Dream into a distant mirage that taunts me from the horizon.
My heart aches as I watch illegal immigrants walk into this country and receive more support than I do. I cry in solitude, locked in my bathroom, journaling and praying for change. This is not just my story, but the story of many women in America who are slowly being crushed under the weight of an unyielding system.
I am choosing to vote for Donald Trump because I yearn for a life where my hard work truly counts, where I can live on my own terms without depending on government handouts just to survive in a system that those in power have broken. I implore those who share my struggles to make the same choice, recognizing that more government band-aids will only lead to restricted freedoms and make it increasingly difficult to get ahead. We need to reclaim our autonomy and ensure our labor reaps the rewards it deserves.
I&#8217;m not seeking handouts or &#8220;free government money&#8221; — I&#8217;m demanding real, substantial change. I vote conservative because I believe in a future where dedication and determination pave the way to personal success and dignity. We need policies that uplift working mothers, honor our contributions, and empower us to provide for our children without sacrificing our health and well-being.
This is a plea for action, for reform, and for a future where we are not punished for striving for better. America, the land of opportunity, must become a reality, not just a dream. Change is not a luxury; it is a necessity for mothers, for families, and for Americans like me.

This admission comes just after The Foo Fighters spoke out against the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump using their song &#8220;My Hero&#8221; at an August rally in Arizona, per <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2024/09/07/donald-trump-helps-foo-fighters-bring-their-hit-back-to-the-charts/">Forbes</a>. A rep for the band said, &#8220;Foo Fighters were not asked permission and if they were, they would have not granted it.&#8221;
Trump&#8217;s rep Steven Cheung hit back on X, using Foo Fighters song titles while composing a message that <a href="https://x.com/TheStevenCheung/status/1827525051073106313">said</a>, “It’s Times Like These facts matter, don’t be a Pretender.” Cheung also said they had gone through the proper channels to obtain rights to the music, the outlet noted.

“I met Jordyn one night in 2001,” Grohl told <a href="http://www.fooarchive.com/gpb/qinterview07.htm">Q Magazine</a> in 2007. “[Fellow bandmate Taylor Hawkins] and I were hanging out at the Sunset Marquis whiskey bar. Taylor was the looker. I mean, girls would send him drinks. Some bombshell comes up and starts talking to Taylor. I was just out of a Tenacious D session. I&#8217;ve got Vans trainers on, no socks, dirty shorts and a dirty T-shirt, surrounded by beautiful Hollywood. She waved her friend Jordyn over.”
He continued, “I was like, ‘Oh my God. Not a chance!’ So I&#8217;m just having some drinks and acting like a jackass. And by the end of the night I was pissed and I&#8217;m staring at her going, ‘You&#8217;re my future ex-wife.’ So she gave me her number: &#8216;Jordyn, your future ex-wife.&#8217; We saw each other a few times. But I realized that this was the flag, the finish line and I&#8217;m like, ‘Oh, wait a minute.’ So I backed out.”
He admitted to ignoring his future wife for a while. “When I first met my wife, we went out on a few dates and I decided that I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling,” he said during a 2007 <a href="https://www.elle.com/culture/celebrities/a9165/victorias-secret-sexiest-women-dupe2/">interview</a> with ELLE.
“After three months, I had a revelation and called her back,” Grohl said, recalling how Blum replied by saying, “’Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.’”
The pair married in August 2003 and have three daughters, who were born in 2006, 2009, and 2014.

The “transing” of America’s foster care system is under way, and Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are totally on board. It doesn&#8217;t bother them that injecting trans ideology into foster care means that some vulnerable children are banned from finding new homes with loving families. It&#8217;s already happening. Just ask the Harmon family of St. Peter, Minnesota. 
My organization, the Conscience Project, has released a <a href="https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://youtu.be/GJ6C23vlkrE__;!!PxibshUo2Yr_Ta5B!1GW-6-FsGO7zxVgsbbrpiHbMr6lgxxVpPEee0qtsw31E7V5SzhruZEzKaKY91L7rDQR_7wB2hHYeenmjdpc$" target="_blank" rel="noopener">short video</a> documenting what Nancy and Jay Harmon had to endure. The couple has fostered around 50 children over the last 25 years. Nancy was a foster child herself. In December 2021 the Harmons took in three sisters aged 9, 10, and 11. The girls had suffered unimaginable abuse and neglect by their biological parents. Nancy recalls, for example, that when the water went out at the girls’ house, their biological parents “told them to collect rainwater.” At times, the oldest girl has claimed to be “nonbinary.”
In the summer of 2022, Nancy and Jay were asked by the adoption agency contracted by their county’s child social service department to consider adopting the girls. After much “prayer and reflection, given the girls&#8217; significant mental health and physical needs,” they agreed to adopt the girls. 
Several months later, as the Harmons waited for news of what they thought was a pending adoption, Nancy opened an email mistakenly sent to her by the adoption agency to the county. “When are we going to tell the Harmons that they’re not the right fit?” she read. Nancy was astonished. She reached out to county officials for clarification. She was told that it was because of her “religious beliefs.” 
What exactly are the “religious beliefs” that would render the Harmons incapable of a permanent relationship with the girls they had cared for over two years?
Nancy and Jay are devout Christians and hold to a Biblical understanding of the human person, made God’s image and as described in Genesis: “Male and female, He created them.”
The county argued that, in light of the oldest girl’s “gender nonconformity,” it was in the best interests of the children to find a more “affirming” household. A government official even suggested splitting up the sisters and asked if the Harmons would be willing to adopt just the two youngest ones. Nancy and Jay were incredulous.
It was only after the girls’ private psychiatrist recommended that the girls stay together that the county and the private adoption agency changed course and allowed the adoption to go through. In December 2023, all three girls were adopted by the Harmons.

This spring, Governor Walz proudly signed into law <a href="https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/text.php?number=HF146&amp;version=1&amp;session=ls93&amp;session_year=2023&amp;session_number=0__;!!PxibshUo2Yr_Ta5B!1GW-6-FsGO7zxVgsbbrpiHbMr6lgxxVpPEee0qtsw31E7V5SzhruZEzKaKY91L7rDQR_7wB2hHYerUS7ix8$" target="_blank" rel="noopener">legislation</a> that encourages out-of-state, &#8220;gender non-conforming&#8221; children whose parents object to them receiving medical intervention to come to Minnesota. And Walz’s Minnesota is one of <a href="https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.lgbtmap.org/equality-maps/foster_and_adoption_laws__;!!PxibshUo2Yr_Ta5B!1GW-6-FsGO7zxVgsbbrpiHbMr6lgxxVpPEee0qtsw31E7V5SzhruZEzKaKY91L7rDQR_7wB2hHYeIoVdoeQ$" target="_blank" rel="noopener">28 states</a> that treat gender identity as a protected class, and treat any failure to “affirm” a foster child’s supposed identity as discrimination.
Like Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris has been riding the trans bandwagon, to the detriment of vulnerable foster kids. The Biden-Harris administration, for example, recently finalized <a href="https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/04/30/2024-08982/designated-placement-requirements-under-titles-iv-e-and-iv-b-for-lgbtqi-children__;!!PxibshUo2Yr_Ta5B!1GW-6-FsGO7zxVgsbbrpiHbMr6lgxxVpPEee0qtsw31E7V5SzhruZEzKaKY91L7rDQR_7wB2hHYepVAmOw0$" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rules</a> that demand that states provide “designated placements” for foster children who identify as “LGBTQI+”.  These “providers”, the administration explains, are “specially designated to serve LGBTQI+ children because they have made a set of commitments and undergone training to better meet the needs of LGBTQI+ children.” The providers are ideologues, in other words. The rule will certainly limit the number of homes available to LGBTQ+-identifying foster children to those that are “affirming.” The progressive group Human Rights Campaign <a href="https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.hrc.org/press-releases/unity-more-than-1-100-lgbtq-leaders-celebrities-and-influencers-representing-millions-sign-letter-in-support-of-vice-president-kamala-harris__;!!PxibshUo2Yr_Ta5B!1GW-6-FsGO7zxVgsbbrpiHbMr6lgxxVpPEee0qtsw31E7V5SzhruZEzKaKY91L7rDQR_7wB2hHYeQ1UT2yM$" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cites</a> these new rules in their effusive support for Harris’s presidential run. 
Nancy and Jay Harmon are wonderful people who have opened their home to children in need because of their Christian beliefs. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz think those same beliefs render them ineligible to do so. Is this the kind of America we want? Is this kind of America the Constitution permits? I don’t think so.

It’s difficult to be a good parent in our culture today. The forces pulling your child away from you — the corrupting influences that seek to degrade him and destroy his soul — are more numerous and more powerful and more ubiquitous and unavoidable, and have more immediate access to him, than at any other point in human history. This is why it is so easy to fail at parenting, but also why it is so crucial that we don’t.
For that reason I’m always troubled when some confused, fatally stupid and inept parenting method arises. Every few years a fancy new parenting trend seems to crop up. They always have different names and present themselves as different strategies, but they are basically the same bad ideas repackaged and resold over and over again. You’ll notice that up until the latter half of the last century, there were no parenting trends or parenting methods. You didn’t have different types of parenting. There was only parenting. If you’d asked your great grandfather what parenting strategy he preferred — if you asked him if he was a “conscious parent” or a “helicopter parent” or a “positive parent” or whatever — he would have looked at you confused, not understanding the question. Or else he would have shown you his belt. 
In recent decades, thanks in large part to the psychiatric industry, parenting has become much more complicated than it needs to be, with too many competing strategies — all of them seemingly designed to make your child into a dysfunctional, needy, entitled little hellion. And in that way, they’ve been extremely successful. 
Which brings us to a parenting trend that has gotten a lot of attention lately. It’s called “gentle parenting.” If you have ever ventured into the world of TikTok and Instagram parents, you are familiar with this term. It’s a style of parenting gaining popularity especially in my generation. A recent survey of millennial parents conducted by Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago found that a staggering 75 percent use the gentle parenting technique.

So what is gentle parenting? The website <a href="http://parents.com/">parents.com</a> has an explainer on the subject: 
<blockquote>Gentle parenting is a peaceful, positive style of parenting that is very different from that of previous generations of parents. It is but one of many <a href="https://www.parents.com/parenting/better-parenting/style/parenting-styles-explained/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">styles of parenting</a> out there. From authoritative and permissive to <a href="https://www.parents.com/free-range-parenting-8665444">free-range</a> and <a href="https://www.parents.com/conscious-parenting-8678839">conscious parenting</a>, there are seemingly more variations than a burnt-out parent can count. But if you&#8217;re looking to add a new approach to your arsenal, you may want to consider <a href="https://www.parents.com/parenting/better-parenting/style/ways-to-use-gentle-parenting-techniques-in-real-life/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gentle parenting</a>.</blockquote>
Before <a href="http://parents.com/">parents.com</a> tells us exactly what this approach consists of, we should make note of one thing. We’re told that gentle parenting is “very different from that of previous generations of parens.” That’s true. And also the whole problem. I’m not saying that we should parent exactly as our own parents and grandparents did. I’m not saying that previous generations of parents didn’t make mistakes. But previous generations of parents did parent the people who built human civilization. They parented the pioneers and poets and philosophers and artists and inventors and warriors and leaders who accomplished incomprehensible feats of heroism and genius, and who gave us every good and wonderful and beautiful thing we have in our lives. Old fashioned parenting has a track record. It’s the parenting that took us from mud huts to the moon. What has modern parenting produced? Does it have a similar record of success? Or has it instead produced multiple generations of depressed, lazy, overgrown brats stuck in a perpetual state of emotional and mental adolescence? I’ll let you answer that question for yourself.

The point is: we should be immediately suspicious of a “very different” style of parenting. Why is it very different? Was old fashioned parenting broken? If not, why are we fixing it? 
Continuing:
<blockquote>Gentle parenting is a means of parenting without shame, blame, or punishment. It is centered on partnership as both parents and children have a say in this collaborative style…. “Gentle parenting, also known as collaborative parenting, is a style of parenting where parents do not compel children to behave by means of punishment or control, but rather use connection, communication, and other democratic methods to make decisions together as a family,&#8221; says Danielle Sullivan, a parenting coach… “Gentle parenting teaches children that they can be active in the world, set their own boundaries, trust their own needs, and make their voices heard.</blockquote>
Now there is a lot wrong with what I just read. Using “democratic methods” in your home is a recipe for dysfunction and chaos. As the father and head of my household, I am not presiding over a democracy. I was not elected to my position. Even if my children voted to throw me out of office, I would remain in power. Our system of government in the United States, in theory anyway, depends on the consent of the governed. My home does not. If your home does, that certainly means — without exception — that you have failed as a parent and your children are the kinds of horrible, out of control, miniature terrorists who nobody wants to be around, and who, without miraculous intervention, will grow into maladapted, miserable adults. 
To explain why, it may be helpful to take a look at some examples of gentle parenting in action. In fact this article provides one: 
<blockquote>If you&#8217;re looking for a way to incorporate gentle parenting into your life, your best bet is to start small… Model what you want to see on a regular basis. Practice kindness, compassion, and empathy at all times. And try to be less demanding and commanding. Instead of saying &#8220;tie your shoes,&#8221; make it a suggestion. Something like &#8220;Do you think you should tie your shoes so you don&#8217;t trip?</blockquote>
The first few sentences of this paragraph start out fine, but then we’re told that you should be “less demanding and commanding.” This is only half right. Less demanding, sure. But you should be commanding. Demands are weak. Demands are made by people who are not in control but want to be. Kidnappers and bank robbers make demands. Demands are desperate and weak. It means that you are not in control of yourself or your surroundings. To demand respect is to pathetically and impotently request it. It is to shout “respect me!” because nobody does. But to command respect is to be regarded with esteem, admiration, and obedience without asking for it. If you have to demand respect from your children, it means that you are not commanding respect. So you should be less demanding because you are more commanding. But to be neither demanding nor commanding is to be a figure with no authority or respect at all. 
So instead of telling your child, “tie your shoes,” you’re encouraged to say, “Do you think you should tie your shoes so you don&#8217;t trip?” This is all wrong. A strong leader knows what things must be done and gives clear, concise, and confident instructions accordingly. Tying shoes is a thing that must be done. It doesn’t matter if your child thinks he should tie his shoes. You don’t need to build a consensus on the matter. You don’t need to put a referendum up for a vote to democratically establish the necessity of tying shoes. And what if he says that, no, he doesn’t think he should? What then? Will you respect him as an equal and let him fall down the steps and break his neck? Or will you tell him to tie them anyway? If the latter — and I hope it’s the latter — what was the point of asking the question in the first place? 
Your child is a child. He has no idea what he’s doing, what he should be doing, or what’s going on. He needs to know that you know. He needs to know that you are confident and secure in your position as the leader. 
Here’s a parenting secret for you: a child wants to be told what to do. He doesn’t want open ended questions and limitless options. He wants direction. He may not know that he wants it. He may say that he doesn’t want it. But that’s because he doesn’t understand his own wants, much less his needs. If you give instructions — not requests, instructions — and you do it clearly and firmly, he will be a happier kid. He will feel safer, more loved, and will end up a better person in the long run.
This is the major problem with the “gentle parenting” method. It relies heavily on “partnering” with children who don’t know what’s best for them and are relying on you to know instead. You should not be looking to make your child a partner in his own parenting, any more than you’d want the captain of your plane to invite you to be a co-pilot. Your captain’s commitment to democratic equality may flatter you for a moment, but it also makes it much more likely that you’ll die a fiery death.
If you go over to TikTok, as mentioned, you’ll find many examples of influencers promoting gentle parenting, and they all run into the same problem. Here’s one popular <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@billyvsco/video/7388490842463374634?_r=1&amp;_t=8obFMG2RMZ4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gentle parenting video</a> from a guy with 12 million followers on the platform:

Now, it will not surprise you to learn that the comments — and there are hundreds of them — are all from people applauding this strategy and saying that they wish this guy was their own dad. That’s because most of the comments are likely from teenagers who, for obvious reasons, would love to have a dad who only grounds them if they agree that it’s fair, and who will still let them go to parties even when they’re grounded. Which is like the court sentencing you to house arrest, but then telling you that your house, for these purposes, includes anywhere on the Earth.
Of course, in real life, if you tell your teenage daughter that she’s grounded and then ask her if it’s fair, in a million cases out of a million, she will say “no.” What then? Will you respect her opinion and validate her perspective by throwing out the punishment? If so, what was the point of the whole exercise, other than making you look emasculated and weak? And if you will stick with the punishment even though she says it’s unfair, what was the point of asking her whether it’s fair or not?
This is what gentle parenting is all about. It’s designed to make parents look indecisive and pathetic in the eyes of their children. Here’s another <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@casiereeebs/video/7366812169196834090?_r=1&amp;_t=8obFajZFdzb">example</a>:

Dear God. That video has 360 thousand likes by the way. Let me see if I have this right. Your daughter slammed the freezer door, lectured you, and instructed you not to eat food without her permission, and you stood there, tail between your legs like a scolded puppy and just took it? You allowed yourself to be chastised and reprimanded by your own daughter? You permitted her to rebuke you for eating your food that you purchased? This is disordered in the extreme.
What you and your husband should be communicating is that the ice cream is your ice cream. It is your fridge. Your kitchen. Your house. You don’t have to ask her for permission to do anything. She should be grateful that she has a roof over her head, a room to sleep in, and food to eat. You’re so generous that you even buy her ice cream sometimes. The only attitude you should accept from her is gratitude for the things you give her and the life your provide for her. And if she speaks to you that way, you should not respond by promising to give her more snacks in the future. No, you should take away snacks, take away privileges, take away freedom until she learns how to speak to you and afford you the respect that she owes you. The only things you have to give her are the basic necessities to keep her alive. Everything else is a privilege, and privileges can and should be revoked if they are not deserved.
I had to give my own daughter a lecture like this recently. She wasn’t scolding me for eating my own food out of my own fridge, and wouldn’t dare talk to me like that. But she did tell me, after I reprimanded her for not keeping her room clean, that it’s her room and she doesn’t know why I care so much whether it’s clean or not. I did not validate her feelings or get down to her level to make sure that she felt seen and heard. I didn’t get on my knees and look her in the eyes and say “I’m sorry you feel that way, sweetie. That must be so hard. I’d just really like it if your room was clean. Is that fair?”
No, instead I stood there and simply said: “No, it’s not your room. It’s my room. It’s my house. I let you stay in this room under certain conditions. One of those conditions is that you keep it clean. That’s a requirement. Not a request. I’m going downstairs and when I come back up in an hour, it will be clean.” That’s it. I wasn’t negotiating or asking for permission or trying to come to a consensus. I simply asserted my authority, gave the instruction, and made sure that I was clear.
It wasn’t any kind of revolutionary parenting technique. It was just parenting.
I want to play one more gentle parenting video for you. Another thing you hear from the gentle parents is that you shouldn’t punish your children. You should instead rely on “natural consequences.” What does that mean? Well here’s another popular parenting TikTok influencer named <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@drchelsey_parenting/video/7197264421532536106?_r=1&amp;_t=8obFnh7geOk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Chelsey</a> — she has a doctorate in education, but still uses the “doctor” prefix — explaining how consequences should work:

Well you should know from the start not to pay attention to a parenting guru who can’t even get her own kids to be quiet for two minutes so she can record a video. More to the point, there’s a major problem with the consequences she suggests. She calls them “natural” — I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean in this context — but they would more aptly be called flimsy and toothless. The problem with a “consequence” like pulling the car over momentarily before you start driving again, or taking TV away only until dinner, is that those consequences cause no discomfort, pain, or even inconvenience to your children. They aren’t going to care about the consequences because there’s no reason to care. A consequence should be something that causes them enough grief that they want to avoid it in the future. No other consequence has any meaning or will have any impact.
Think of the consequences that she says don’t work: taking away screen time, grounding, taking away a party that they were supposed to go to. But those are all good consequences, effective consequences, because they are consequences a child will not like. A child will be upset about losing screen time, losing a party, etc. And that’s the whole point of the consequence. If they are not upset with the consequence, then it was not a consequence.
The problem is that many parents today are terrified of making their children upset. They’d rather be friends than authority figures. They’re so focused on “validating” their kids that they’ve lost all sight of the much more important job, which is guiding, instructing, and civilizing their kids. That is the primary role of a parent. That IS parenting. Gentle parenting — like so many modern methods to come before it, and so many that will come after — may more accurately be called non-parenting. It is not a new way of fulfilling your parenting duties, but a way of abdicating them entirely.

The news comes less than a year after the singer filed for divorce from her singer-songwriter husband, Ryan Hurd, following five years of marriage. The Grammy Award winner has a 3-year-old son, Hayes Andrew, with Hurd. 
Fans have been questioning Morris on her sexuality for some time as she was perceived to be acting very affectionate with female friends in photos. An image from April 23 showed her kissing and embracing photographer Sonya Jasinski.
The country star has been an outspoken advocate for LGBT issues. During a highly publicized appearance in April, Morris defended taking her young son to a drag show. 
“We were doing a benefit at Bridgestone last year when they were doing the drag ban in Tennessee,” Morris told Kelly Clarkson during an appearance on her podcast, as The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/completely-harmless-maren-morris-defends-taking-her-toddler-to-drag-show">reported</a>. “There were drag queens like throughout, entertaining as well, and one actually danced with me when I was singing my song, ‘The Middle.’ And it was just amazing and fun.”
“My son loves watching me, like sit in the makeup chair and just is like fascinated with the colors … it was just like completely harmless,” she went on.

“But I think it’s just such an amazing expression of artistry, and so I just think like normalizing it and making it seem like these are just people that love dressing up too, is an amazing thing,” Morris said. “It was an all-ages show so, it was completely family-friendly.”
“Yes, I introduced my son to some drag queens today, so Tennessee, f***ing arrest me,” the singer previously said during the Love Rising concert in Nashville in 2023. Morris was referring to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/so-tennessee-fing-arrest-me-maren-morris-tells-crowd-she-introduced-her-2-year-old-son-to-drag-queens-in-their-dressing-rooms">legislation</a> that would prohibit minors from attending drag shows.
Last fall, the “My Church” singer said that many country music fans are “misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic” and that certain “hyper-masculine” country is, in her opinion, “butt rock.”
“I don’t want to say goodbye, but I really cannot participate in the really toxic arms of this institution anymore,” Morris <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/country-singer-maren-morris-files-for-divorce-from-ryan-hurd">said</a> about her decision to move away from the genre.

Singer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/miley-cyrus">Miley Cyrus</a> said she’s not sure she ever wants to become a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/motherhood">mom</a> but mentioned that she considers her fans to be stand-ins for children anyway.
The 31-year-old celebrity made the remarks during a recent <a href="https://www.wmagazine.com/culture/miley-cyrus-cover-interview-2024">interview</a> with W Magazine released this week. 
“I love being an adult,” Cyrus told the outlet. “I have a rule that I don’t look up or don’t look down at anyone. I just look, which allows me the clarity to see the world for what it really is and people for who they really are.”
She added, “I look at myself almost every day in the mirror and I say, ‘I am a woman.’ I’m 31 now, and I still don’t know if I want kids or not. I feel like my fans kind of are my kids in some way. I’ve heard Dolly [Parton] say that too, because she didn’t have kids.”
The “Flowers” singer mentioned at another point in the conversation how other artists frequently refer to themselves as “mother” in relation to their fans and that the fans say the same. 
“The word ‘mother’ is the most all-encompassing word,” she said. “The mother can be [drag queen] RuPaul; the mother can be Beyoncé. Our fans call us ‘mother.’”
Cyrus said, “With the word ‘mother,’ we can talk about the planet, we can talk about agriculture, we can talk about medicine, we can talk about injustices, reproductive care.”

This isn’t the first time the recording artist brought up her feelings about motherhood. In 2019, she <a href="https://www.elle.com/culture/music/a28280119/miley-cyrus-elle-interview/">told</a> Elle that she wasn’t happy with how women were pressured to have kids. 
&#8220;We&#8217;re expected to keep the planet populated. And when that isn&#8217;t a part of our plan or our purpose, there is so much judgment and anger that they try to make and change laws to force it upon you — even if you become pregnant in a violent situation,&#8221; Cyrus said. &#8220;If you don&#8217;t want children, people feel sorry for you, like you&#8217;re a cold, heartless b*tch who&#8217;s not capable of love.&#8221;
She continued, &#8220;We&#8217;ve been doing the same thing to the earth that we do to women. We just take and take and expect it to keep producing. And it&#8217;s exhausted. It can&#8217;t produce. We&#8217;re getting handed a piece-of-shit planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child,” she said. 
&#8220;Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I&#8217;m not bringing in another person to deal with that.&#8221;
