Federal law enforcement officials arrested a man on Thursday who allegedly made threats against former President Barack Obama and who had an active warrant out for his arrest stemming from charges related to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Secret Service reportedly spotted the suspect — identified by NBC News and CBS News as 37-year-old Taylor Taranto — a couple of blocks from Obama’s home and, when chased, he allegedly took off running toward the home, but was stopped before he got there.
CBS News said that the suspect had a history of making “disturbing social media threats against a public figure,” according to law enforcement sources, and had “an open warrant on charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021″ riot.
The report said that he had “weapons” on him when he was arrested.

Al Arabiya reporter Nadia Bilbassy Charters wrote on Twitter that the suspect had allegedly “threatened to bomb” Obama’s home.
The CBS News reported stated that federal law enforcement said that the suspect had “weapons and materials to make an explosive” on him and that they had been monitoring him because of threatening statements he had made recently online.

Taylor Taranto, 37, of no fixed address, was arrested in the 2400 block of Kalorama Rd NW. He has been charged with Fugitive from Justice, pursuant to an arrest warrant. Arresting officers requested MPD's EOD Team to perform a vehicle sweep of the individual's van. #MPD pic.twitter.com/kC9C3wpk2u

NBC News reported that the suspect had been living out of his van in recent weeks and that his latest social media post was “a link to a website touting conspiracy theories about the Obama’s home.”
The Metropolitan Police Department that the suspect was arrested from outstanding warrant and was charged with fugitive from justice.
