Social media is tearing Alec Baldwin apart for his strange interview with reclusive Hollywood director Woody Allen.
The actor is being mocked for the train-wreck interaction, which included him yelling at someone in what native speakers claim was unintelligible Spanish and multiple instances of a poor connection with the Wi-Fi, according to Page Six.
The screen froze just before the “30 Rock” actor was heard yelling at someone off-screen in Spanish, which was loosely translated to him asking for help to make the dogs stop barking.
“Leonetta! Leonetta! Basta! Las perritas! Basta! Las perritas, suficiente!” Baldwin shouted, reported Yahoo Money, which reportedly translates to “Leonetta! Leonetta! Enough! The dogs! Enough. The dogs. That’s enough!”
“Inexplicably interviewing Woody Allen on Instagram Live, watching as Woody loses Wi-Fi, and then getting up to yell something in Spanish that I a native Spanish speaker can’t understand has surpassed Schweddy Balls as the new funniest thing Alec Baldwin has ever done. God tier,” comedy writer Alexis Pereira tweeted.
“I was morbidly curious about this, so I put it on in time to see Alec Baldwin yelling at his housekeeper in Spanish to fix Woody Allen’s wi-fi connection,” journalist Matt Jacobs wrote.
“Why is this interview happening, and why is Alec wearing a visor for it,” Laura Bassett shared.
“And they said comedy was dead!!!!!” writer Carrie Courogen replied.
The interview was controversial even before it aired, in part because of Baldwin’s current status in the Hollywood community following the death of Halyna Hutchinson on the set of the movie “Rust.” He prepared for the backlash by posting about how he didn’t care what people thought. He also disabled commenting during the interview.
“Let me preface this by stating that I have ZERO INTEREST in anyone’s judgments and sanctimonious posts here,” Baldwin shared on Instagram before the interview aired. “I am OBVIOUSLY someone who has my own set of beliefs and COULD NOT CARE LESS about anyone else’s speculation. If you believe that a trial should be conducted by way of an HBO documentary, that’s your issue.”
“Like Baldwin’s career isn’t already hanging by a thread. What a dumb way to completely destroy it,” one person wrote.
“Remember when Alec Baldwin literally killed a crew member on a set last year, faced zero repercussions, and is now … promoting a special interview he’s doing with … Woody Allen? That’s literally all you need to know about the film & TV industry,” someone else agreed.
Besides the technical difficulties, the interview included Allen saying he was considering retiring from his decades-long Hollywood career, NME reported. “A lot of the thrill is gone,” the Oscar winner said. “It’s not the same. It’s not as enjoyable to me.”
