You are a fascist if you believe in “God, Family, and Country,” as Italy’s new Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni does. American leftists want you to know. Yet her political “rival” and former Italian PM Matteo Renzi says that description is “fake news.”
Folks on networks like CNN have been fretting that Italy’s new prime minister is ushering in a new era of Mussolini-style politics. Renzi, prime minister from 2014 to 2016, is a center-left politician. On Monday night, he took to the airwaves to defend Meloni against attacks from pundits and leaders from around the globe.
“There is not a danger for Italian democracy,” Renzi said on CNN. “She’s my rival, I’m her rival, we will continue to fight each other, but the idea now that there is a risk of fascism in Italy is absolutely fake news.”

Where would critics get the idea that she is a fascist? Well, she loves Italy, is proud of its history, and defends the family against leftist views.
Perhaps her most famous quote, “I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am a mother, I am Italian, I am a Christian, and you can’t take that away from me,” has sent shivers down the spines of leftists around the globe.
In Meloni’s critics’ minds, enlightened people in Western nations are not supposed to be individual critical thinkers — they are supposed to go along with the global elite. Her embrace of womanhood and motherhood represents her embrace of the patriarchy — the very same backward system of oppression that globalists are trying to take down.
Being a Christian and patriotic? That is unheard of, and only for dumb, backward MAGA voters, you can just hear the CNN newsroom saying, repeating verbatim the sort of rhetoric tossed around amongst the crowd at the World Economic Forum.
And yet, Meloni has metaphorically given all of those folks the middle finger. She was also staunchly against lockdowns and wanted Italy to get tougher with China in response to COVID. She has zero desire to go along with what Big Government, Big Tech, and Big Business think is best for the entire world. She wants to do what is best for Italy.
In other words, she cannot be controlled.
Her enemies must understand that her message is appealing — it is pretty similar to the kind that launched Donald Trump to prominence in 2015 — because they are now doing everything they can to smear her.
What those critics could not possibly anticipate is the quickness with which even her political rivals like Renzi shot down their allegations of fascism.
