A New Jersey Democrat declared that she had to stop going to church because she &#8220;couldn&#8217;t stand&#8221; being around so many people who had voted for President Donald Trump.
Rebecca Bennett, the Democratic nominee to represent New Jersey&#8217;s Seventh Congressional District in the U.S. House, told a supporter about her decision to leave the church at a campaign event in February. Audio of their conversation was obtained and published Wednesday by <a href="https://freebeacon.com/elections/new-jersey-dem-running-in-house-district-trump-carried-said-she-stopped-going-to-church-because-she-could-not-stand-being-around-people-who-voted-for-trump-audio-shows/">The Washington Free Beacon</a>.

The audio begins with Bennett thanking her supporters for coming out and offering to take some of their questions. The first question comes from a woman who identifies herself as &#8220;a former progressive Dem, now a moderate&#8221; who is happy to hear Bennett describe herself as a &#8220;patriot&#8221; but concerned that others might hear that word and think she leans to the Right.
&#8220;I loved hearing you say that you&#8217;re a patriot, but what are you going to do about that being a right-coded way of presenting yourself?&#8221; the woman asked.
&#8220;I will say I use that word intentionally, and the reason that I do it is because, so, I grew up in the Presbyterian Church, and after Trump got elected, I stopped going to church for the first time in my life, because I was like, &#8216;I cannot sit in this room of people,'&#8221; Bennett, a former Navy pilot, explained. &#8220;At the time, I was stationed somewhere that was pretty conservative. I was still in the military at the time. I was like, &#8216;I cannot sit in this church full of people who voted for Trump.'&#8221;
&#8220;And then, ultimately, I decided they do not get to decide what Christianity looks like, and to me, it&#8217;s the same thing about [how] they do not get to decide what patriotism is,&#8221; she adds. &#8220;You do not get to wrap yourself in the flag while you are literally murdering Americans in broad daylight.&#8221;

Former reality star Spencer Pratt (MTV&#8217;s &#8220;The Hills&#8221;) raised eyebrows when he threw his hat in the ring to run for mayor of Los Angeles — but soon, Pratt may not be the only one.
Mike &#8220;The Situation&#8221; Sorrentino, who popularized the errands trifecta known as &#8220;GTL&#8221; (Gym, Tan, Laundry) on MTV&#8217;s &#8220;Jersey Shore,&#8221; said recently that he was thinking about a future run for governor in the Garden State.
Sorrentino has had his share of ups and downs since finding fame on the popular reality show, but has since parlayed his own previous struggles with addiction into a drug and alcohol rehab center called Archangels. At a recent launch party for VUE magazine in Wall Township, the former MTV star said that he planned to move into politics after he&#8217;d opened an Archangels Center in each of the 50 states.

He did not immediately give a party affiliation — but did offer a major hint in the form of a policy he might support: &#8220;I can’t announce it yet but I think the residents of New Jersey would like no property tax.&#8221;
New Jersey currently has the highest median property tax in the United States — meaning that residents pay more to own property in the Garden State than they would anywhere else in the country. Illinois ranks second, and Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont round out the top five.
Sorrentino may be preparing to follow Pratt&#8217;s road map and capitalize on the failures of previous leadership — which, in New Jersey, might simply mean finding a way to provide meaningful relief from the high property tax rates.
Pratt used that strategy to great effect, pressing incumbent Mayor Karen Bass on her handling of the deadly Palisades fire (in which Pratt lost his own home as well as his parent&#8217;s home) and the homelessness crisis and rampant drug use in Los Angeles. With 62% of the votes counted as of Thursday afternoon, Pratt is holding steady at second place in California&#8217;s jungle primary. If he remains in second place, he will head into a November runoff against Bass, who has already secured the top spot in the primary.

On Tuesday, Egyptian-born Adam Hamawy, a defense witness for a convicted terrorist dubbed the &#8220;Blind Sheikh,&#8221; won the Democratic primary for New Jersey&#8217;s 12th Congressional District.
Dr. Hamawy, a veteran U.S. Army combat surgeon, gained national attention when he scored endorsements from big-name &#8220;Squad&#8221; members, like far-Left Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). Democratic-socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) also backed Hamawy.
During his time as a combat surgeon, Hamawy helped save the life of Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), when her Black Hawk helicopter was struck down by a rocket-propelled grenade in 2004. However, he&#8217;s facing scrutiny for his role in a World Trade Center bombing trial, where he defended the so-called &#8220;Blind Sheikh,&#8221; and for his past work with a now-defunct organization that provided support to terrorist group al-Qaeda.

In 1995, Hamawy testified as a defense witness during a terrorism trial for Muslim cleric Omar Abdel-Rahman, A.K.A. the Blind Sheikh. Hamawy said he had accompanied Abdel-Rahman to a conference in Detroit and disputed some allegations about the cleric&#8217;s statements. As <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/02/us-news/democrat-adam-hamawy-wins-nj-house-primary-after-volunteering-with-al-qaeda-linked-group/">highlighted</a> by the New York Post, he notably testified that Abdel-Rahman&#8217;s remarks about “conquering the land of the infidels” were being taken “out of context” by prosecutors.
Abdel-Rahman was convicted of helping plan terrorist attacks and was linked to the group responsible for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
A spokesperson for Hamawy has tried to distance the congressional hopeful from the terrorist, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/02/us-news/democrat-adam-hamawy-wins-nj-house-primary-after-volunteering-with-al-qaeda-linked-group/">stating</a> that, at the time, Abdel-Rahman &#8220;was one of very few religious figures in what was then a very small Muslim community in New Jersey,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Dr. Hamawy condemns that man’s violent rhetoric and actions, and all violence, hatred, and terrorism — and he will always. Dr. Hamawy had no contact with this person after they were arrested.”
In 1994, Hamawy also worked with the Benevolence International Foundation, a nonprofit where he helped deliver medical supplies to hospitals during the Bosnian War. However, in 2002, Bosnian authorities raided the group&#8217;s offices as part of a joint effort with the United States to dismantle Benevolence International Foundation, which they identified as a front for Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda, <a href="https://jewishinsider.com/2026/05/adam-hamawy-benevolence-international-foundation-bosnia-al-qaida/">according</a> to Jewish Insider. The 9/11 Commission also found that the group&#8217;s base was part of an &#8220;impressive array of offices [that] covertly provided financial and other support for terrorist activities” that Osama bin Laden established in the early 1990s.
Reacting to Hamawy&#8217;s win, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), posted, &#8220;How in the hell has a defense witness in the 1993 WTC bombing, with ties to Al-Qaeda been nominated by the Democrats to serve in Congress? New data obtained by The Daily Wire shows that commissary sales at Delaney Hall surged 161%, rising from $11,498 on May 26 to $30,013 on June 1. While snack sales jumped, the detainee population fell from 724 to 621 during that same time period.
The so-called hunger strike stems from allegations of poor conditions inside the facility, where Democratic lawmakers like Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) have claimed that there are worms in the food.

President Donald Trump&#8217;s border czar, Tom Homan, said Monday that he personally visited the facility and ate the same food being served to detainees, which he said he enjoyed.
&#8220;I even made a surprise visit this weekend and walked into the cafeteria and ate the same meal that the detainees around me were eating, and I made sure my tray equaled their tray. I had spaghetti and meat sauce, I had green beans, I had bread and rolls, I had drinks, I had dessert. The food was good, it&#8217;s all a false premise. There was never a hunger strike,&#8221; Homan said.
&#8220;They may not be eating in the cafeteria, but what I found out they&#8217;re ordering food from the commissary and eating it in their cells,&#8221; he added.
The Department of Homeland Security has also repeatedly hit back at the allegations, saying &#8220;all detainees are provided with proper meals, quality water, blankets, medical treatment, and have opportunities to communicate with their family members and lawyers.&#8221;
Former ICE New York Field Office Deputy Director Scott Mechkowski recently told The Daily Wire that so-called hunger strikes where detainees are loading up on commissary snacks are all too common in immigration detention.
“I’ve seen real hunger strikes during my time as an ICE official, managing detention facilities. What’s happening at Delaney Hall is not a hunger strike,” Mechkowski said.
“When detainees are buying up Honey Buns and Snickers bars, and those with money are helping others get snacks, that’s not a hunger strike, it’s just a publicity stunt,” he added.
Meanwhile, Newark Democratic Mayor Ras Baraka announced Tuesday that he was expanding an existing lawsuit against Delaney Hall operator GEO Group. The state later announced a separate lawsuit against the private prison company, accusing it of refusing to allow state health inspectors inside.
Protesters have clashed with authorities for days outside the facility, leading to dozens of arrests.
New Jersey Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill held back state police from responding to the melee until nearly a week after the protests began. On Monday, Baraka instituted a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

President Donald Trump on Monday endorsed a New Jersey Republican Congressman for re-election who has missed <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/02/nyregion/thomas-kean-new-jersey-house-election.html">more than 100 votes</a> and has not been publicly seen for several months. 
Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ) is running unopposed in New Jersey&#8217;s 7th Congressional District primary election on Tuesday. The Republican is seeking a third term in one of the country’s most competitive seats that could play a big role in shaping the balance of power in Washington in the upcoming midterm elections. In 2024, Kean won the district by about 24,000 votes. Going into the midterms, the <a href="https://www.cookpolitical.com/house/race/483531">Cook Political Report</a> ranks the seat as a toss-up.

“My doctors continue to assure me that my recovery will be complete and that I will be back to the job I love very soon,” he said in a statement. “I take my responsibilities seriously and have a strong record of showing up and delivering, which makes this absence all the more difficult.”

Kean has resisted calls to disclose his medical condition. On May 21, he told the <a href="https://newjerseyglobe.com/congress/kean-says-hell-be-expects-full-recovery-confirms-re-election-bid/">New Jersey Globe</a> that he’s “on the road to a full recovery” and will “return to voting and to the campaign trail” in the next few weeks.
The 57-year-old described his prognosis as “positive” and did not expect the medical issue to affect his cognitive health, he told the local outlet.  
The congressman has no publicly scheduled events, <a href="https://tomkean.com/meet-tom/">according to his campaign website.</a> 
Kean’s extended and unexplained absence is complicating the math for House Speaker Mike Johnson’s razor-thin majority and has mystified some of his Republican colleagues.

It remains unclear whether Kean will address the media — or his voters — after securing the Republican nomination for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District on Tuesday night.

The FBI arrested a man caught on video saying he would kill an ICE officer&#8217;s &#8220;whole f*cking family&#8221; during a riot outside a detention facility in New Jersey.

That came after Scelfo and an ICE deportation officer got into a &#8220;physical confrontation&#8221; involving the officer hitting him twice in the leg with a baton, according to the criminal complaint. 
The FBI said that it tracked down Scelfo based on witness interviews, records, video footage, and physical evidence. FBI Director Kash Patel said that facial recognition technology was used to identify Scelfo. 
After being arrested and interviewed by the FBI, Scelfo “admitted that he had been at the demonstration, had in fact made statements toward an officer including a threat to kill him and his family, and had later seen himself in a video that was in the media depicting him at that demonstration making statements toward law enforcement” according to the complaint. 
A lawyer for Scelfo is not listed in court documents. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. 
“Federal law enforcement officers face danger with great courage, and they should be able to do their jobs without being threatened and fearing for their families’ lives,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “We take such threats very seriously and will prosecute those who make them to the fullest extent of the law.”

Police arrested over 20 people Sunday night outside a New Jersey ICE detention center that has been the target of violent protests. 
The arrests came after nearly a hundred people armed with helmets, gas masks, and shields broke curfew outside the Delaney Hall detention facility, The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/01/us-news/at-least-20-protesters-arrested-at-ice-detention-center-delaney-hall-as-dhs-vows-zero-tolerance-for-rioters/">reported</a>. One person scrawled “Kill ICE” on a wall in spray paint while crowds chanted leftist slogans like “Give Peace a Chance” and “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA.”
Local authorities imposed a 9:00 p.m. curfew after riots broke out at Delaney Hall on Saturday evening as tires were burned and objects thrown at police officers. Activists have alleged that illegal immigrants detained at the facility have faced poor conditions. 
New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said that those arrested included a group who came to “protest armed with helmets, shields, or gas masks” and that they “deliberately refused to comply with repeated orders to leave the area.” 
“Their actions put the public at risk, and I am grateful to law enforcement for de-escalating the situation,” she said. 
The Department of Homeland Security posted several videos on social media on Sunday night showing protesters being arrested. “If you riot, you will face the consequences. Law and order prevails,” the department said.

Top New Jersey Democrats have continued attacks on ICE despite the violent protests over the weekend. 
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka used most of his <a href="https://x.com/CityofNewarkNJ/status/2061223246435963170">statement</a> on the unrest to condemn ICE, adding at the end that “it is also important to note that burning tires in the street, throwing bottles or bricks, and bringing weapons to protest have made this situation more dangerous” and “detracts” from the protests “original premise.” 
Commenting on the protests from Saturday night, Democrat Governor Mikie Sherrill <a href="https://x.com/GovSherrillNJ/status/2061042802285240365">said</a> that her “number one priority will always be public safety, and I remain dedicated to protecting constitutional rights. We simply cannot let ICE surge into our community.”

The Delaney Hall detainees engaging in a purported &#8220;hunger strike&#8221; are opting to not eat their regular meals while going to the commissary to purchase snacks instead, according to a source familiar with the situation. Democratic New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone recently <a href="https://x.com/FrankPallone/status/2060174695740387356" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> for the facility&#8217;s closure over concerns about possible retaliation against &#8220;hunger strikers,&#8221; &#8220;all because they were advocating for better food, access to basic medical care, and judicial hearings.&#8221;
&#8220;Delaney Hall is a disgrace to our country,&#8221; he said.
The source said the commissary snack store has seen an &#8220;increase in sales and detainees maxing out on items they can purchase weekly.&#8221;
So-called hunger strikes like the one playing out at Delaney Hall are all too common in ICE detention centers and the playbook is usually the same, former ICE New York field office deputy director Scott Mechkowski told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve seen real hunger strikes during my time as an ICE official, managing detention facilities. What&#8217;s happening at Delaney Hall is not a hunger strike,&#8221; Mechkowski said.
&#8220;When detainees are buying up Honey Buns and Snickers bars, and those with money are helping others get snacks, that&#8217;s not a hunger strike, it&#8217;s just a publicity stunt,&#8221; he added.
Dozens of protestors clashed with federal agents Thursday night and into Friday morning as demonstrations calling for the release of detainees from the Newark facility continued. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the agitators &#8220;bit, kicked, and punched&#8221; federal officers and that Democratic New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill &#8220;refused to allow state police to assist our officers.&#8221;

Mullin characterized the complaints about the food and conditions inside the facility as &#8220;political theater.&#8221;
&#8220;This isn&#8217;t a Holiday Inn, we&#8217;re not providing luxury housing, what we&#8217;re doing is we&#8217;re providing a sanitary place for them to be detained,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMAuAGP2_dI" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> during an appearance on &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends&#8221; Thursday.
&#8220;We&#8217;re providing them three meals a day, we&#8217;re meeting the calorie standard &#8230; they have commissary, if you want to put money on their books, put money on their books &#8230; but not only are we providing them a safe place to stay and food and a place to sleep, but we&#8217;re also giving them a convenience store to be able to buy products out of.&#8221;
The New Jersey State Health Department inspected the detention center and its &#8220;food service department&#8221; Thursday morning, according to Mullin. Their findings have not been released.
In a statement shared with The Daily Wire, a Homeland Security spokesperson said &#8220;there is no hunger strike at Delaney Hall at this time&#8221; and that ICE is delivering three meals a day and water to each detainee&#8217;s room.
&#8220;All detainees are provided with 3 meals a day, clean water, clothing, bedding, showers, soap, and toiletries. Illegal aliens also have access to phones to communicate with their family members and lawyers. Certified dieticians evaluate meals. In fact, ICE has higher detention standards than most U.S. prisons that hold actual U.S. citizens,&#8221; the spokesperson said. 
“It is a longstanding practice to provide comprehensive medical care from the moment an alien enters ICE custody. This includes medical, dental, and mental health services as available, and access to medical appointments and 24-hour emergency care. For many illegal aliens this is the best healthcare they have received their entire lives,&#8221; the spokesperson added.

Protests at the Newark, New Jersey, ICE facility grew increasingly violent this week, prompting federal officials to arrest over a dozen rioters.
Nine agitators were arrested overnight on Thursday, according to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. They join another six rioters who were arrested Wednesday for assaulting ICE officers. Around 100 agitators gathered at the detention facility Wednesday and Thursday, with several of them throwing objects at federal officers.
In a video posted by commentator Nick Sortor, an agitator screamed at an ICE agent, telling him that he took a photo of the agent’s face and threatened to murder his family.

That agitator has not been arrested, but acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said that the federal government is looking for the agitator over his threats to the federal officer.
“I promise you, we’ll find him, and when we find him, we will arrest him, because it is a crime not only to threaten law enforcement, but not surprisingly to threaten their family as well,” Blanche said.
According to federal law, it is illegal to threaten violence against a federal officer by threatening to murder a family member, and the offense carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
&#8220;On the evening of May 28th, approximately 100 anti-ICE rioters gathered around the Delaney Hall ICE facility. Rioters bit, kicked, and punched law enforcement officers,&#8221; Mullin <a href="https://x.com/SecMullinDHS/status/2060346993805811767">said</a>. &#8220;Governor [Mikie] Sherrill refused to allow state police to assist our officers. Assaulting and obstructing [ICE] law enforcement is a crime and felony. Throughout the night, nine rioters were arrested. Anyone who assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Law and order will prevail.&#8221;
Sortor also reported that a group of ICE protesters resorted to racist remarks, <a href="https://x.com/nicksortor/status/2060045284969775610">chanting</a>, &#8220;You will hang!&#8221; to a group of ICE agents that included black officers.

The Daily Wire reached out to the truck driver&#8217;s employer for comment but did not receive a response. 
The protests escalated in recent days following confrontations between demonstrators and federal immigration authorities. Videos across social media show ICE agents being threatened and physically confronted outside the facility.
 Independent journalist Cam Higby posted a video on X showing a protester grabbing and repeatedly pulling on his keffiyeh while he was attempting to document the demonstrations.

The protests intensified after roughly 300 detainees inside Delaney Hall reportedly began a hunger strike on May 22, citing poor living conditions, malnutrition, and lack of sufficient medical care. 
Several Democratic members of Congress, including Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) — who once called for the abolition of ICE — have toured the facility, describing the conditions as inadequate or inhumane. 
While several of them have been given tours of the facility, they all have yet to release any photos or video footage of the inside corroborating their story.
On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security denied allegations of substandard conditions within the facility. DHS reaffirmed that detainees are provided three meals a day, have proper amenities, medical and dental care, and access to 24-hour emergency treatment. 
Delaney Hall, operated by the GEO Group, opened as an immigration detention center in 2011 during the Obama administration. The facility closed in 2017 before reopening in 2025 under a reported $1 billion federal contract that expanded capacity to nearly 1,200 beds.
President Donald Trump addressed the situation during his Wednesday Cabinet meeting.
&#8220;These aren’t protesters; these people are fake, they’re all paid for,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;We run the finest facilities anywhere in the world — of their type.&#8221;
Protests at Delaney Hall have persisted for more than a year. Newark Democratic Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested for trespassing on May 9, 2025. According to <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/newark-mayor-ras-baraka-sues-alina-habba-arrest-immigration-detention-rcna210581">NBC,</a> the charges were later dropped, and former interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba subsequently offered him a tour of the center. 
Baraka later sued Habba, claiming violations of his Fourth Amendment rights. 
According to the lawsuit, a security guard initially allowed Baraka onto the property to help calm the protestors outside. Special Agent Ricky J. Patel, in charge of the Newark division of Homeland Security investigations, eventually instructed Baraka to leave the premises. Baraka claims more than a dozen federal agents spontaneously approached him and members of Congress, detaining him without probable cause.

The Trump administration is making plans to pull Customs officers from international airports as a punishment for sanctuary cities that refuse to play ball with federal immigration authorities.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin revealed on &#8220;Hannity&#8221; Tuesday night that officials are &#8220;currently drawing up plans&#8221; to stop the processing of international travelers into sanctuary airports. The latest update on the proposed action comes amid a days-long anti-ICE protest taking place outside a federal immigration detention center in Newark.
Several Democrats, including New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, have joined protesters outside the Delaney Hall detention center, where agitators have clashed with federal authorities. Some demonstrators have attempted to block entrances to the facility as local police refused to respond, Mullin said.
Authorities arrested some of the rioters Tuesday night for allegedly assaulting, resisting, and impeding federal officers, according to DHS.
Earlier Tuesday, Mullin met with White House officials to discuss his potential airport action, he said.
&#8220;I said If they&#8217;re going to not allow us to go out and arrest the worst of the worst and then when we call for assistance at the facilities that the street it belongs to the city, if it belonged to us we would take care of it, but it belongs to the city and they&#8217;re barricading our employees from coming in and out of the facility, then why are we processing international flights into the airport there?&#8221; Mullin said.
&#8220;We are currently — which we are not initiating yet — but we are currently drawing up plans to say listen, in these sanctuary cities, where the local radical left Democrats aren&#8217;t allowing us to do our job and enforce federal laws, then we shouldn&#8217;t be processing international flights into their cities either because they don&#8217;t want us to enforce immigration, but they want us to process immigration at their facilities? Nothing about that makes sense to me,&#8221; he added.
Mullin first teased the proposal in April as a way to force sanctuary cities to cooperate with federal immigration agents.
“I believe sanctuary cities is not lawful,” Mullin told Fox News’ Bret Baier at the time. “I don’t think they’re able to do that, and so we’re gonna take a hard look at this.”
“If they’re sanctuary cities, should they really be processing Customs into their city?” Mullin asked. “If they’re a sanctuary city and they’re receiving international flights, and we’re asking them to partner with us at the airport, but once they walk out of the airport they’re not gonna enforce immigration policy, maybe we need to have a really hard look at that because we need to focus on cities that want to work with us.”

Authorities in a New Jersey town took aggressive action this week after fights broke out when a mob of teens and young adults caused chaos on its popular beachfront. 
The city of Long Branch imposed an emergency 8:00 p.m. curfew after it said there was an &#8220;unauthorized pop-up gathering” of hundreds of people at Pier Village on Tuesday evening. This pop-up “quickly deteriorated into fights, individuals jumping on parked vehicles, and disorder along the boardwalk and surrounding streets,” the city <a href="https://www.longbranch.org/m/newsflash/home/detail/198">said</a>. 
The city deployed 139 law enforcement officers to respond to the incident, including 69 Long Branch officers and personnel from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and New Jersey Transit Police. The officers cleared the pop-up by 9:15 p.m. 
Videos posted to social media show large crowds of people sprinting through the area as police officers clear the streets.

&#8220;It really was a ton of people screaming, running,&#8221; Anthony Pizzi, who witnessed the chaos, told CBS. &#8220;Somebody pulled up the car right there and they just started jumping on the car.”
Six people were arrested as a result of the chaos, and police are investigating multiple aggravated assault cases and reports of a stolen car. Those arrested included a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman for disorderly conduct, three juvenile females for disorderly conduct, and a juvenile male for an eluding incident. 
The females arrested were all from Newark, about 45 miles away from Long Branch. The male was from New Brunswick, about 38 miles away. 
The city said that many of the people who arrived for the pop-up traveled by train to arrive in Long Branch. 
“The City of Long Branch takes these events seriously and will not tolerate conduct that endangers residents, visitors, business owners, or our public safety personnel,”said Long Branch Director of Public Safety Charles Shirley. “Pop-up gatherings of this nature have repeatedly disrupted Jersey Shore communities, and Long Branch is prepared to act decisively whenever public safety is threatened.”
Ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, the city said that anyone visiting the area “intending to engage in violence or disorder should expect to be arrested and prosecuted.”
Major cities throughout the country have faced so-called “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/teen-takeovers-turn-blue-cities-into-scenes-from-the-purge">teen-takeovers</a>,” where massive groups of teenagers shut down public spaces, and engage in assaults, robberies, vandalism, and shootings. Earlier this week, multiple stabbings <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/05/20/us-news/rhode-island-beach-chaos-leads-to-three-stabbed-11-arrested/">took place</a> at beaches throughout Rhode Island during similar events.
