SpaceX’s Starship Flight 13 successfully landed in the Indian Ocean with an intact heat shield, a major milestone for the company as it looks to put men back on the moon.
Instead of hitting the water with a fireball, as in previous flights, the rocket flipped into its vertical landing position and touched down in the Indian Ocean before falling over and floating on top of the water.
“That is a first,” Dan Huot, communications manager for SpaceX, said during the livestream. “That is the softest splashdown we have ever had with the Starship there in the Indian Ocean.”

The July 24 flight was the second test of Starship’s V3 rocket and the first flight to deploy Starlink V3 satellites, <a href="https://www.spacex.com/launches/starship-flight-13">according</a> to SpaceX’s website. SpaceX originally planned the test flight for July 16 but aborted just before the launch after some of the engines failed to start.
In the first test of the V3, the rocket hit the Indian Ocean with a planned explosion. This time, the rocket bobbed gently in the water while waiting for the recovery team.
The landing was so successful that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said SpaceX might try to catch the rocket on the next test flight.
“Unless we discover problems after mission data review, SpaceX will attempt to catch the ship with the tower on next flight,” Musk said on X.
Cameras on Starship continued sending video of the rocket after landing and provided views of the rocket’s heat shield, which was mostly intact.
“This is the first time we’ve put an intact Starship in the water,” Huot said on the livestream. “This is a dream scenario for the team that’s trying to get this heat shield data.”
Musk highlighted an X post showing the progress the company has made with the heat shield in four test flights.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman celebrated Flight 13’s successful launch.

The successful flight is a major milestone for SpaceX as it prepares for NASA’s Artemis III mission. NASA partnered with SpaceX to create a version of Starship to take astronauts from lunar orbit to the moon, <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/reference/human-landing-systems-2/">according</a> to NASA’s website.
This was the first test flight since SpaceX CEO Elon Musk took the company public in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musk-becomes-first-trillionaire-after-spacex-ipo">largest</a> initial public offering in history.
“Lucky Number 13,” Huot said. “Hell of a flight for Starship.”

A search and rescue team successfully rescued a dog buried under rubble following two massive earthquakes in Venezuela.

The unit had finished a search and rescue mission at a nearby home when the group heard barking from rubble, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/27/world-news/video-captures-firefighters-rescuing-dog-from-the-rubble-of-venezuela-earthquakes/">according</a> to the New York Post. The team located the dog and safely extricated it from the debris.
“This extraordinary discovery has served as a symbol of hope for everyone at the disaster site,” the Caracas Fire Department said in a statement, according to the Post. “Our emergency teams continue to work tirelessly on search and rescue efforts, reaffirming our absolute commitment to saving lives. We press on, with strength and solidarity!”
The successful canine rescue comes as searches for earthquake survivors continue. At least 920 people are dead and 3,360 are injured, the Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/26/world-news/neighbors-dig-through-venezuela-rubble-to-search-for-loved-ones-after-earthquakes-kill-at-least-235/">reported</a>.
Two earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude struck Venezuela Wednesday night, leveling homes and large buildings in Caracas and the nearby area.
Saturday night will mark three days since the disaster, a crucial period for rescue teams as the first 48 to 72 hours offer the best chance of finding people alive.
“Each person saved is a miracle,” Jorge Rodríguez, president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, said. “We are not going to hide absolutely anything about the magnitude of this tragedy.”
Venezuelan authorities began blocking access to La Guaira, the site of some of the worst destruction, so citizens would not disrupt rescue teams, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/venezuelan-earthquake-death-toll-hits-least-920-us-rescuers-race-against-critical-survival-window">reported</a>.
Many civilians are searching for missing loved ones by themselves, citing a lack of state search and rescue teams in hard-hit areas, according to the Post.
Nazareth Jimenez, who lives in La Guaira, watched her neighbors use power tools to cut through rubble in an attempt to find survivors, the AP reported.
“We’re making a call for help to the government and countries across the world,” Jimenez told the outlet. “There are still people alive in there.”
As of Friday, the Venezuelan government believed around 50,000 people were still missing, and the U.S. Geological Survey predicted more than 10,000 deaths, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/death-toll-climbs-from-twin-earthquake-disaster-as-rescuers-race-to-find-survivors">reported</a>.
The United States has offered assistance in the aftermath of the quakes, and rescue teams from California, Florida, and Virginia were sent to Venezuela Friday, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/venezuelan-earthquake-death-toll-hits-least-920-us-rescuers-race-against-critical-survival-window">according</a> to Fox News. Teams from countries including Chile, Mexico, and Switzerland are helping search for survivors as well.

“These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. Passport the most secure documents in the world,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/28/politics/us-trump-passport">told</a> CNN in April, when the passports were first announced.
The limited edition passport is only available through the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C., beginning July 6 while supplies last, <a href="https://travel.state.gov/en/passports/apply/help/security-design/passport-250.html">according</a> to the State Department’s website. The new design will be the default version at the Washington location, but the regular passport design will remain available online and at other passport-issuing locations.
Previous renderings of the passport featured a different portrait of Trump opposite the Trumbull painting, first <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/exclusive-state-department-introduces-new-us-passports-celebrating-america250">published</a> by Fox News. The new version appears to be based on a portrait of Trump in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery.
The special designs coincide with a variety of events celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary. Vandals damaged the newly restored Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, President Donald Trump said Friday.
The news comes as National Park Service members have been scrubbing algae from the pool while strips of peeled paint float in the water following weeks of a $14.8 million restoration. 
“Things are really looking good in our Nation’s Capital, and add to that the fact that when I became President, Crime was rampant, and now, Washington, D.C., is one of the Safest Cities anywhere in the United States,” Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116779961376108129">wrote</a> on Truth Social Friday. “However, we’ve had some real problems with Vandalism at the beautiful Reflecting Pool, which sits between The Washington Monument and The Lincoln Memorial.”
Trump said vandals have tried to damage both the inside and the outside of the pool.
“No different than the chemicals that were used on the National Mall, they used something similar in the Reflecting Pool to try to destroy and demean our beautiful work,” Trump said in the post.
Last week, the numbers “86 47” appeared in the grass near the pool, prompting an investigation. The Trump administration has interpreted the numbers as a call for violence against the president. “86” is slang in the restaurant industry for getting rid of something, while “47” might refer to Trump being the 47th president, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/us/national-mall-grass-vandalized-86-47-trump.html">reported.</a> 
Meanwhile, the National Park Service has used chemicals and ozone nanobubbles to counter the algae that had turned the pool bright green. The department also vacuumed out dead algae. Video shows the green algae water being pumped out of the pool.

Algae growth has been a problem with the reflecting pool since it first opened in 1922, <a href="https://x.com/interiorpress47/status/2067436655523369239">according</a> to an X post from the Interior Department. The pool also has leaking pipes that disrupt its filtration system, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/19/us/politics/reflecting-pool-paint-algae.html">per</a> The New York Times.
In addition to the algae growth, the “American flag blue” paint and sealant are peeling from the bottom of the pool.
Trump said the pool’s damage will be fixed immediately, and law enforcement is investigating the potential vandalism.
“The algae is 75% gone, and the condition will soon be completely remedied, and the area that was vandalized, fortunately, is just a small area of damage, and will be fixed early next week,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“Toy Story 2” almost didn’t exist, thanks to one string of code that deleted the entire movie.
“Toy Story” is a massively successful franchise. Its fifth installment, “Toy Story 5,” premiered Friday. But in 1998, Pixar nearly lost “Toy Story 2” when an employee accidentally erased it from the company’s servers, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/media/toy-story-5-saved-pixar-78e29161">according</a> to The Wall Street Journal.
The code culprit was a short command: /bin/rm-r-f*. That command directed the chosen server to delete all of its files immediately, without requesting permission, the Journal reported. 
Technical employees used it to free up storage in their personal directories, but since they could also access the “Toy Story 2” master drive, it was easy to input the command in the wrong place.
Technical Director Oren Jacob was working on the film in Pixar’s Richmond, California, offices when the files disappeared from his computer, according to the Journal. Pixar had lost about 90% of the movie.
“You don’t often watch a company vaporize in front of your eyes,” Jacob told the Journal.
Pixar planned to release the movie in theaters, and any delay would have been catastrophic for the company, according to co-founder Ed Catmull.
“We didn’t have the resources at that time to absorb that kind of delay and survive,” Catmull told the Journal.
Catmull focused on finding a solution instead of someone to blame.
Looking for someone to blame doesn’t help us learn from mistakes,” he told the Journal. “We understood that the deletion of the movie was an accident because somebody typed in a command when they were in the wrong directory. We don’t know who typed the command, or if they even knew that they were the one who did it, but it didn’t matter.
Supervising Technical Director Galyn Susman initially thought Pixar could recover the film from the company’s backups — only to discover the backup systems had also failed.
Then Susman realized she had a backup on her home computer, the Journal reported. She had created a work-from-home setup while on maternity leave. She would take the computer to the Pixar offices once a week and download the latest copy of the movie so she could continue working on it.
Susman and Jacob transported the computer from Susman’s home to the office and were able to restore the movie’s files.
After recovering the movie, however, the studio deleted it again — on purpose this time — and completely overhauled it less than a year before its release date, according to the Journal. The do-over worked, and the film became incredibly successful.
“Personally, I still think ‘Toy Story 2’ is the best of the franchise,” Susman told the Journal.

Throngs of out-of-control teenagers hit Horny Corner beach in Long Beach, California, sparking fights that caused police to detain several teens June 11.
Video shows hundreds of teenagers crowding Horny Corner, Rosie’s Dog Beach, and nearby streets Thursday evening, which was the first night of summer break for multiple schools in the area, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/12/us-news/long-beach-teens-brawl-in-belmont-shore/">according</a> to the New York Post.
Residents called the police after girls in bikini tops began punching each other, the Post reported — and police responded, but the local chief warned that continued disturbances would only create more risks by drawing officers away from emergency calls and other responsibilities.
“Large-scale disturbances like this deplete our resources and divert our officers from addressing other safety concerns in Long Beach, including emergency responses,” Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish said in a statement from the Long Beach Police Department.
Police officers arrived in the area within five minutes of the first call, around 7 p.m., and began breaking up the crowd of roughly 200 teenagers at Horny Corner, according to the LBPD’s statement.
Another fight a few blocks away led police to detain multiple teens, according to the Post. Teens were still in the area around 9:45 p.m., at which point police took five teenagers to their parents after citing them for violating curfew, the LBPD’s statement said.
The gathering began as a celebration of the end of the school year, but quickly escalated into a brawl, Long Beach residents told CBS News.
“I was happy to see them all here at first,” resident Charles Cobb told the outlet. “It looked like they were all having a good time. But then, once it started getting out of hand, just a poor representation for us.”
The police also received reports that one of the teenagers had a gun. Despite detaining multiple people, police did not arrest anyone.
“I think it’s very irresponsible,” resident Erick Rodriguez told CBS. “Go to the theme park. Pick up a sport. Go to the beach. Something productive instead of going out and causing trouble.”
The LBPD is maintaining an increased presence in the area, according to the statement.
“When inappropriate activity occurs, our response will be prompt, direct, and focused,” Hebeish said. “We will maintain an enhanced presence throughout the weekend, and any form of violent behavior or law violations will not be tolerated.”

New Yorkers may not get the chance to attend NBA Finals Game 5 — which could be the last game of the championship series — thanks to a rule blocking out-of-town fans from purchasing tickets to the San Antonio-based game.
A Ticketmaster warning shows sales for Game 5, which might see the New York Knicks win the NBA Finals for the first time in 53 years, are limited to fans within a 150-mile radius of the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
“Residency will be based on credit card billing address,” the warning reads. “Orders by residents outside of a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center will be canceled without notice and refunds given.”
The Ticketmaster rule has been in effect for the entire playoffs, according to social media users. Other ticket sites, however, including StubHub and SeatGeek, do not appear to restrict ticket sales to specific locations.
The New York Knicks currently lead the series 3-1 over the San Antonio Spurs. If the Knicks win Game 5, the team will secure the NBA title for the first time since 1973. If the team loses, the series will return to Madison Square Garden for Game 6.
This is the Knicks’ first Finals appearance since 1999, when the New York team lost to the Spurs. The Spurs’ last appeared in the NBA Finals in 2014, when the team defeated the Miami Heat to win the championship.
Despite the roadblock from Ticketmaster, fans from New York and New Jersey have already purchased 45% of Game 5 tickets, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/06/12/sports/new-york-new-jerseys-knicks-fans-bought-50-of-tickets-for-game-5-in-san-antonio/">as reported by</a> the New York Post. According to the Post, some New Yorkers bought Game 5 tickets because they were cheaper than tickets to Madison Square Garden, the Post reported.
The cheapest seats for Game 5 cost around $1,000 on Ticketmaster, while the best seats cost anywhere from $10,000 to $36,000.
In contrast, the cheapest tickets for Game 3 at Madison Square Garden cost around $5,000 — with courtside tickets going for as much as $100,000, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/knicks-star-calls-out-crazy-ticket-prices-for-nba-finals-see-how-much-fans-spent">reported</a>.
Win or lose, the Knicks have already made history in their Finals run. The team won Game 4 with a 29-point comeback, the largest in NBA Finals history.

Fast food chain Chick-fil-A has launched its first non-chicken kids meal featuring one of customers’ favorite sides: macaroni and cheese.
The mac and cheese kids meal features a medium cup of macaroni and cheese, made with Chick-fil-A’s blend of Parmesan, Cheddar, and Romano cheeses.
The meal also includes a side, a drink, and a toy. The fast food chain — famous for chicken — first introduced macaroni and cheese as a been a side item for regular meals in 2019.
The new kids meal reflects customers’ requests for more flexible menu options for children who do not like chicken. A February Reddit thread was <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/ChickFilA/comments/1rfm5up/its_been_years_why_havent_they_added_a_mac_cheese/">filled</a> with users excited about the idea of a macaroni and cheese kids meal.
“This really seems like a no brainer [sic] to me,” one user said. “I didn’t eat meat as a kid and would have loved to have this option.”
The kids meal is now available at participating locations for $6.75.
“My kids absolutely love their Mac and Cheese and one of [them] won’t touch the nuggets,” another Reddit user said. “I’d love to see them add a Mac and Cheese kids meal.”
This is the first time Chick-fil-A has offered a non-chicken entree in a kids meal. Its other options include regular or grilled chicken nuggets and chicken strips.
Customers can choose from sides including applesauce, a fruit cup, and waffle fries. Drink options include apple juice, chocolate milk, regular milk, and orange juice.
The new meal is being debuted alongside several new kids meal toys as well, <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/fox-news-food-drink/chick-fil-a-launches-its-first-non-chicken-kids-meal-entree-mac-cheese-available-nationwide">according</a> to Fox Business. The toys include a Cow Case with foldable games, a Cow Kart cardboard racer, a keychain, and Hasbro Cow Games.
The kids meal was introduced as Chick-fil-A announced the return of seasonal summer menu items such as the pineapple dragonfruit lemonade, the honey pepper pimiento sandwich, and the peach milkshake.

Women’s greatest legacy is their children, Isabel Brown, host of “The Isabel Brown Show” on The Daily Wire, told attendees at Turning Point USA’s 2026 Women’s Leadership Summit on Saturday.
The three-day women’s conference, held June 5–7 in San Antonio, Texas, featured speakers from across the conservative movement, including Brown, Alex Clark, Riley Gaines, Erika Kirk, and Allie Beth Stuckey. Brown spoke on the Left’s attack on motherhood and encouraged young conservative women to have families.
“It is normal, healthy, and beautiful for you to want to bring new life into the world,” Brown said. “It’s a gift that is only available to women. It’s the only experience humanity has to participate in the creation of new life right alongside God.”

Brown argued that modern culture increasingly devalues motherhood and traditional family formation, while elevating individual fulfillment above sacrifice and service to others.
“Despite calling me out by name repeatedly, the women of The View weren’t really upset about me,” Brown said. “They were threatened by the fundamental truth that the women sitting in this room know and live out every day: that our greatest contributions are bigger than ourselves.”
Brown also encouraged attendees to reject fears surrounding marriage and raising children.
“Have the courage to fall in love, to get married, and to have children, more children than you think you’re ready for, and far more than you think you can afford,” Brown said.
The Daily Wire host also pointed to Mary, the Mother of God, as the ultimate example of feminine virtue and self-sacrifice.
“Her greatest legacy will always be how she raised God incarnate to become a man, in what she gave rather than what she received,” Brown said.
While acknowledging that many women pursue successful careers, Brown said motherhood remains the most important calling for many women and noted that many of the conference&#8217;s speakers balance professional success with raising families.
Brown also reflected on the sacrifices associated with motherhood, arguing that suffering and hardship can draw people closer to God.
“We do live in a world where we experience pain, discomfort and suffering, but the beauty of suffering is that it uniquely links our experience to that of God, who enduring the ultimate hardship and pain to the point of death for the redemption of all of us,” Brown said.

The summit also featured remarks from TPUSA CEO Erika Kirk, who reflected on the mission of the organization founded by her late husband, Charlie Kirk.
“He saw a generation drifting away from faith, away from a sense of purpose, and he wanted to cultivate a space for community, a space that was so needed, especially on college campuses,” Erika Kirk said of her husband. 
At one point during her speech, a heckler attempted to interrupt Kirk, but was removed from the venue.
“It’s important to remember that happiness comes and goes, and I pray that you find it,” Kirk told the heckler as the woman was removed.
After the audience applauded, Kirk urged attendees to pray for their opponents rather than view them as enemies.
“You pray for your enemies. You pray for those that persecute you,” Kirk said. “That’s not the enemy. We know who the real enemy is.”

The Auburn University student who disappeared in Japan has been found dead, his mother said on Facebook Saturday.
James “Weston” Higginbotham was found by a volunteer search-and-rescue group outside of Kyoto, Nancy Higginbotham <a href="https://www.facebook.com/nancy.higginbotham.50/posts/pfbid02ziddTrQ5h3QGquHD4cjJTtQ5sgcXUgNudkf9Gpdg2X6bGxMNBaJ3ZzoNJdFF1zGQl">wrote</a>. “The grief we feel is impossible to put into words,” Higginbotham said. “We are deeply grateful to the countless people across the United States, Japan, and around the world who shared Weston’s story, prayed for our family, offered encouragement, and helped in the search efforts. The outpouring of kindness and support has carried us through the darkest days of our lives.”
Weston, 20, vanished May 29 after deciding to explore on his own, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/search-intensifies-for-auburn-student-missing-in-japan">reported</a>. He and his mother had argued over the use of ChatGPT to help navigate the family’s vacation, and Weston often went exploring “to blow off steam,” Nancy said.
Local police said Weston left Kyoto Station alone before he was last seen on surveillance footage in Yamashina, on a path leading to a hiking trail in nearby woods, CNN <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2026/06/04/us/weston-missing-american-student-japan-hnk">reported</a>. Higginbotham said Weston was found in “a mountainous area.”
Search efforts had focused on wooded, mountainous terrain outside Kyoto, where Higginbotham was ultimately found by the rescue group, according to his mother. Authorities believed Weston may have entered after leaving the trail area.
Dozens of Japanese authorities, along with search dogs and helicopters, were searching for Weston amid waist-high mud after a typhoon struck the area.
The family had asked people to share Weston’s photo on social media to help people in Japan recognize him.
“We shared our story here and in the media in the hope of finding Weston,” Nancy said on Facebook. “We now ask for privacy as we begin to navigate this unimaginable loss. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and support. We will need them now more than ever.”

Maine Democratic Senate nominee Graham Platner raised roughly $200,000 in the days following a New York Times report highlighting abuse allegations from three of his former girlfriends, even as critics challenge key elements of the working-class biography that fueled his political rise. 
The fundraising haul came as Platner sought to reassure supporters that his campaign remains strong despite a series of damaging reports about his past.
Speaking at a recent campaign rally, Platner argued that his personal history was being “weaponized,” to the applause of his supporters.
“When hurtful things I said on the internet a decade ago came out into the public, as I shared my personal journey through PTSD and darkness, of recovery and accountability and growth, Maine had my back,” Platner said. “Now, as every single piece of that past and journey gets dug up, litigated, and weaponized, you have my back.”
Democrat politicians, such as Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), have attempted to strike a careful balance between supporting Platner and acknowledging the seriousness of the accusations against him.
“No one should make excuses for his past relationships, some of which were toxic and volatile, and no one on our side should attack the women who came forward,” Khanna said. “You know why? Because Democrats believe in respecting the equality and the dignity of women, and we always will.”
The comments stood in contrast to Platner&#8217;s own response to the claims.
“These are the statements of someone who is politically motivated,” Platner said during an appearance on MSNOW. “I do expect the Republican party to fight as dirty as possible.”
At the rally, Platner again denied the allegations. 
“When politically motivated, serious, and false accusations are made against me, Maine, you have my back,” Platner said.
The New York Times reported that three former girlfriends alleged physical abuse during their relationships with Platner, and said the Maine Democrat knew the meaning behind his controversial Totenkopf tattoo. 
Platner has denied the accusations, saying any claims about physical abuse or knowing the tattoo&#8217;s meaning are false.
While Platner attempted damage control about his past, critics have continued to scrutinize his biography, which helped fuel his rise in Democratic politics.  
At the same rally, Platner described how healthcare gave him the freedom to &#8220;start a business&#8221; and &#8220;make a living on the sea.&#8221;
“My healthcare gave me freedom,” Platner said. “It gave me the freedom to take a risk, to start a business, and to sink my intellect and my physicality into mastering the skills necessary to make a living on the sea.”
The Washington Free Beacon has challenged that portrayal, reporting that Platner borrowed $200,000 from his father to purchase his home and relies heavily on veterans disability benefits. The outlet also reported that the primary purchaser of oysters from Platner&#8217;s oyster farm is a restaurant owned by his mother.

Platner has also frequently highlighted his experience serving as his town&#8217;s harbormaster. The Free Beacon reported that he held the position for approximately 18 months.
In addition to these current allegations, other revelations show that Platner sent sexually explicit messages to multiple women while married and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/see-it-graham-platner-has-active-profile-on-predators-paradise-messaging-app" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has an account</a> on Kik, a messaging platform flagged by child safety advocates for being associated with sexual predators.
