The man convicted of murdering four University of Idaho students was sentenced to four consecutive fixed life sentences without opportunity for parole.
Bryan Kohberger was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for the count of burglary, as well as a $50,000 fine and $5,000 civil penalty per count.
Kohberger pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. As part of the guilty plea, he waived his right to appeal but escaped the death penalty.
&#8220;No parent should have to bury their child,&#8221; Judge Steven Hippler said before the sentencing. &#8220;This is the greatest tragedy that can be inflicted on a person.&#8221;
Hippler said he was unable to find anything redeeming in Kohberger.
&#8220;His actions have made him the worst of the worst,&#8221; Hippler said. &#8220;In my view, the time has now come to end Mr. Kohberger&#8217;s 15 minutes of fame.&#8221;
Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador commended the sentence.
“Our hearts are with the victims and their families. While no sentence can bring full justice to this kind of evil, today’s sentence ensures that Bryan Kohberger will never see the outside of a prison and will never again harm innocent families,” Labrador said in a statement. “Under Idaho law, the fixed prison sentences mean Kohberger will never be eligible for parole. I’m especially grateful to Prosecutor Bill Thompson and my Criminal Division Chief, Jeff Nye, whose leadership, judgment, and tireless efforts brought this case to a just conclusion. Their teams served the State of Idaho with distinction, and our families and the public are safer because of their hard work.”
Before the sentencing, family members of the victims made statements before the court.
Kristi Goncalves, mother of Kaylee Goncalves, said Kohberger &#8220;will finally get what [he] wanted&#8221; in prison.
“A dead killer doesn&#8217;t kill again, so while I&#8217;m disappointed the firing squad won&#8217;t get to take their shots at you, I&#8217;m confident that the men in prison will have their way with you in more ways than one,&#8221; Kristi Goncalves said. &#8220;You will finally get what you wanted, physical touch, just probably not how you were expecting it.”
&#8220;Hell will be waiting,&#8221; Kristi Goncalves concluded.
Steve Goncalves, father of Kaylee Goncalves, told Kohberger, &#8220;From this moment, we will forget you.&#8221;
&#8220;Today we are here to finish what you started. Today you’ve lost control,&#8221; Steve Goncalves added. &#8220;Your actions have united everyone in their disgust for you.&#8221;
Randy Davis, the stepfather of Xana Kernodle, told the victims&#8217; families, &#8220;I love you all and I feel your pain.&#8221;
He then told Kohberger to &#8220;go to hell,&#8221; and everyone applauded.
Kim Kernodle, the aunt of Xana Kernodle, told Kohberger she forgave him.
&#8220;This is probably gonna bother everybody, but Bryan, I’m here today to tell you I’ve forgiven you, because I could no longer live with that hate in my heart,&#8221; Kim Kernodle said. &#8220;And for me to become a better person, I have forgiven you.&#8221;
One of the surviving roommates, Dylan Mortensen, made her <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/dylan-mortensen-roommate-idaho-murder-victims-bryan-kohbergers-sentencing/">first</a> public statement since the murders.
&#8220;Living is how I honor them,&#8221; Mortensen said. &#8220;Speaking today is to help me find some sort of justice for them and I will never let him take that from me. He may have taken so much from me, but he will never get to take my voice.&#8221;
&#8220;I get to feel sadness, I get to feel rage, I get to feel joy even when it&#8217;s hard, I get to feel love even when it hurts, I get to live, and while I will still live with this pain, at least I get to live my life. He will stay here, empty, forgotten and powerless,&#8221; she concluded.
After the impact statements, Prosecutor Bill Thompson showed photos of the four victims while family members cried in the background.
&#8220;We can&#8217;t undo and we can never undo the horror that occurred,&#8221; Thompson said. &#8220;From today forward, our memories should be focused on these innocent victims whose lives were taken on their families, on their friends, on the community.&#8221;
Kohberger declined to make a statement.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1948079113358495996">addressed</a> the sentencing during a press conference Wednesday.
&#8220;Our nation grieves with you, and we will never forget the precious souls who were lost in this horrific act of evil,&#8221; Leavitt said. &#8220;May God bless and watch over everyone affected by this unimaginable tragedy, especially the parents who lost their children.&#8221;

Sales of previously owned homes dropped more than expected in June, <a href="https://www.nar.realtor/newsroom/nar-existing-home-sales-report-shows-2-7-decrease-in-june">according</a> to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
Home sales fell 2.7% from May, lower than the 0.7% drop predicted by analysts, CNBC News reported. Sales fell to a seasonally adjusted rate of 3.93 million. There was no year-over-year change in home sales.
&#8220;High mortgage rates are causing home sales to remain stuck at cyclical lows,&#8221; NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun said in a statement. &#8220;If the average mortgage rates were to decline to 6%, our scenario analysis suggests an additional 160,000 renters becoming first-time homeowners and elevated sales activity from existing homeowners.&#8221;
The drop in home sales comes as President Donald Trump continues pushing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to lower interest rates.

Meanwhile, median existing-home prices reached a record high of $435,300, &#8220;the 24th consecutive month of year-over-year price increases,&#8221; according to Yun.
&#8220;Multiple years of undersupply are driving the record high home price,&#8221; Yun continued. &#8220;Home construction continues to lag population growth. This is holding back first-time home buyers from entering the market. More supply is needed to increase the share of first-time homebuyers in the coming years even though some markets appear to have a temporary oversupply at the moment.&#8221;
The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 6.75% as of July 17, the NAR report said. The rate marks an increase from 6.72% the previous week but a decrease from 6.77% the previous year.
&#8220;Expanding participation in the housing market will increase the mobility of the workforce and drive economic growth,&#8221; Yun said. &#8220;If mortgage rates decrease in the second half of this year, expect home sales to increase across the country due to strong income growth, healthy inventory, and a record-high number of jobs.&#8221;
The Federal Reserve has resisted lowering interest rates, citing concerns that Trump&#8217;s tariff policies will increase inflation. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will crack down on illegal vapes entering the U.S. from China, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary told ABC News.
&#8220;[What] we have been doing is laughable,&#8221; Makary said. &#8220;We&#8217;re going to start confiscating and seizing. We&#8217;re going to take this seriously.&#8221;
The illegal e-cigarettes appeal to children and teens through bright colors and fruit- and candy-based flavors, according to Makary. The vapes are often disguised as handheld video game consoles, highlighters, or smartphone cases, ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/fda-head-warns-illegal-vaping-products-china/story?id=123977131">reported</a>.
&#8220;There is no approved vaping product in the United States that has a video game,&#8221; Makary said. &#8220;There is not an approved vaping product in the United States that has one of these cutie fruity flavors.&#8221;
The only legal e-cigarette flavors are menthol and tobacco, Makary said. There are only 39 authorized e-cigarette products in the U.S.
&#8220;Eighty-five percent of the vaping products sold in the vape stores are illegal according to the FDA&#8217;s list,&#8221; Makary said. &#8220;We don&#8217;t even know what&#8217;s in some of these vaping products.&#8221;
Makary said stopping illegal vapes is a &#8220;top priority&#8221; for the agency.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol seized about two million illegal vape products last month, ABC News reported. The vapes are worth about $34 million.
&#8220;This is just a small fraction of the seizures we have here,&#8221; CBP official Eric Everson told the outlet.
Over 90% of Chinese vape products imported to the U.S. in 2024 were not reported in American import data, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/china-is-flooding-america-with-illegal-vapes-and-more-than-90-fly-under-the-radar">reported</a>. Experts say Chinese manufacturers intentionally mislabel their products to avoid duties, tariffs, and FDA regulations.

The influx of illegal vapes led Attorneys General from 27 states to <a href="https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/IACIO/2025/04/10/file_attachments/3226671/2025.04.09%20-%20Letter%20on%20Chinese%20E-Cigarettes.pdf">write</a> a letter to the Trump administration asking for help &#8220;combating the flood of illegal Chinese products — including illegal Chinese e-cigarettes marketed to minors.&#8221;
&#8220;Illegal, flavored Chinese e-cigarettes are flooding the U.S. market in flagrant disregard of State and federal laws. The products have never been approved by the FDA and target America’s youth,&#8221; the Attorneys General wrote in April. &#8220;They are often brought into the country in mislabeled packaging or shipped in a manner specifically designed to evade detection by the FDA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.&#8221;

The announcement came during the company&#8217;s second-quarter earnings report <a href="https://investors.coca-colacompany.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1138/coca-cola-reports-second-quarter-2025-results-and-updates-full-year-guidance">released</a> Tuesday.
&#8220;As part of its ongoing innovation agenda, this fall in the United States, the company plans to launch an offering made with U.S. cane sugar to expand its Trademark Coca-Cola product range,&#8221; the report said. &#8220;This addition is designed to complement the company’s strong core portfolio and offer more choices across occasions and preferences.&#8221;
The announcement comes after President Donald Trump said he spoke with the company and convinced it to use cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/its-just-better-trump-says-coca-cola-has-agreed-to-use-real-cane-sugar-in-u-s">reported</a>.
“I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. Based on the earnings report&#8217;s announcement, it appears the company will still use high-fructose corn syrup while launching a separate product made with cane sugar. The company already uses cane sugar to make Mexican Coke, which is sold in glass bottles and imported to the United States.
Still, the move marks another win for the Make American Healthy Again (MAHA) movement. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been an outspoken critic of high-fructose corn syrup, calling it &#8220;poison.&#8221;

Coca-Cola has used corn syrup, which is a cheaper sweetener than cane sugar, since the mid-1980s.
Kennedy celebrated Saturday, when fast-food chain Steak &#8216;n Shake announced it would offer Coca-Cola made with cane sugar.

The son of Joe Biden blamed top Democrats for abandoning his father, former President Joe Biden.
&#8220;They had clearly made a decision. And when I say they, I mean the speaker,&#8221; Hunter said, referring to then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Hunter made the comments on the &#8220;At Our Table&#8221; podcast hosted by Jaime Harrison, the former chair of the Democratic National Committee. Harrison interviewed Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz in the podcast&#8217;s first episode.
Hunter said the Democratic Party supported Biden, but Democrat elites rejected him.
&#8220;You know who stood by us? Who? Black caucus, Hispanic caucus, the progressive caucus, the Democratic Party,&#8221; Hunter said. &#8220;That&#8217;s the Democratic Party. You know who didn&#8217;t stand by us? The fundraisers, the elite, the people that are the insiders, the people that say they&#8217;re not part of the beltway, but you know where they are? They&#8217;re living in Beverly Hills telling you or me what it is that real people care about.&#8221;
Hunter rejected claims that his father experienced mental decline during his presidency.
&#8220;We watched him get old in front of our eyes. And that does not mean that you&#8217;re incapacitated,&#8221; Hunter said. &#8220;Your gate changes. It does not mean that you do not have the mental capacity to be able to do your job.&#8221;

But Hunter still said he thinks his father &#8220;could have won.&#8221;
&#8220;We could have survived if it weren&#8217;t for the fact that we decided that — people in the Democratic party — were not going to allow it to happen,&#8221; Hunter said.
Hunter said there was no conspiracy about his father&#8217;s mental state.
&#8220;What sells is the idea of a conspiracy. What sells is a cover up,&#8221; Hunter said. &#8220;Do you realize the daily touch points that he had with people — that, by the way were not necessarily loyal to him — every single day, hundreds of people every single day during that period of time. And you can&#8217;t get one of them to go on the record.&#8221;

This summer, gas prices have hit the lowest national average since 2021.
Prices dropped to $3.155 per gallon since last week, the American Automobile Association (AAA) reported on Friday.
“Prices at the pump keep dropping thanks to President Trump unleashing American energy,&#8221; White House Assistant Press Secretary Taylor Rogers told The Daily Wire. &#8220;President Trump ended Joe Biden’s reckless war on American energy, and he’s making life more affordable for families as a result.”
As of Friday, the nation&#8217;s <a href="https://gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/">highest gas prices</a> are in California, where the average cost is at $4.499 per gallon. Hawaii and Washington were the only other states above $4 per gallon, averaging $4.475 and $4.386, respectively. Mississippi has the country&#8217;s cheapest gas, averaging $2.72 per gallon.
“Summer gas prices are the cheapest they have been in four years thanks to consistently low crude oil prices this year,&#8221; AAA Spokesperson Kellan Howell told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Crude oil supply is currently outweighing demand.”
In June 2022, midway through the Biden administration, AAA found that for the first time since it began tracking prices, the national average for a gallon of gas had reached $5.00. Fuel prices remained elevated for the remainder of former President Joe Biden&#8217;s term, well above the $2.39 figure that marked the start of his presidency.
Gas prices <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inflation-creeps-up-as-trump-prepares-major-tariff-rollout">ticked</a> up 1% in June, according to the most recent Consumer Price Index report. But prices have remained low this summer, despite tensions in the Middle East.
The Trump administration has taken steps to prioritize lower fuel costs. The recently passed &#8220;One Big, Beautiful Bill&#8221; encourages fossil fuel development and cuts tax credits and subsidies from green energy. The administration has said, &#8220;Having efficient, reliable, and affordable energy is the key to American security.&#8221;
The Department of the Interior just <a href="https://www.doi.gov/pressreleases/interior-ends-preferential-treatment-unreliable-subsidy-dependent-wind-and-solar">announced</a> plans to &#8220;[end] preferential treatment for unreliable, subsidy-dependent wind and solar energy.&#8221; The department will end subsidies for wind and solar energy to &#8220;[level] the playing field for … clean coal and domestic natural gas.&#8221; Wind and solar projects will now undergo &#8220;elevated review&#8221; before being approved.
The Trump administration also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/end-the-government-bias-against-coal-trump-signs-order-to-bolster-floundering-american-industry">announced</a> plans to slash regulations and expedite leases for coal mining. Knowles said the Left is now trying to backtrack on grievance politics.

The piece explains the life of a gay man afraid of being deported during President Donald Trump&#8217;s first term.
Gay immigrants seem to be one of NPR&#8217;s favorite topics. You can read about gay Muslims <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2018/01/05/572985673/chechnyas-lgbt-muslim-refugees-struggle-to-cope-in-exile">living</a> in Russia, gay refugees <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/03/04/1084321690/lgbtq-refugees-fleeing-ukraine-face-discrimination-in-countries-with-anti-gay-la">fleeing</a> Ukraine, gay refugees from <a href="https://www.npr.org/2014/02/24/282123664/how-will-ugandan-gay-refugees-be-received-by-u-s">Uganda</a>, or a Mexican shelter for gay immigrants <a href="https://www.npr.org/2024/02/08/1220480721/immigration-lgbtq-violence-asylum">coming</a> to the United States — and that&#8217;s not even half of NPR&#8217;s gay immigrant coverage.
The Trump administration is deporting illegal immigrants because they broke the law, not because of anyone&#8217;s sexual orientation. Despite being obsessed with the subject, NPR has yet to find one immigrant who was deported for being gay.
<h3>Everything Is Racist</h3>
In 2020, NPR ran an interview <a href="https://www.npr.org/transcripts/893006538">titled</a> &#8220;Fat Phobia And Its Racist Past And Present.&#8221; The interview went &#8220;all the way back to the transatlantic slave trade to understand the racial origins of fat phobia.&#8221;
The interviewee claimed diet culture came from Europeans deciding to &#8220;be slender&#8221; to &#8220;make [them] the premier race of the world,&#8221; and added, &#8220;There are so many problems&#8221; with &#8220;telling people to lose weight.&#8221;

He (or she, or they) might be, NPR <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/07/22/1189580630/trucking-is-getting-more-diverse-partly-due-to-a-nationwide-shortage-of-drivers">explained</a> in an interview about &#8220;diverse&#8221; trucking.
The interviewer talked to the founder of a company that screens trucking companies to find out if they &#8220;support LGBTQ drivers or if their health insurance covers things like trans health care.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s trying to bridge the gap between the regular LGBTQ community and trucking community, letting them realize that there is [sic] drivers out here, that it&#8217;s a good option for a job and paying for surgeries and whatever, you know, your personal goal is,&#8221; the company&#8217;s founder said.
NPR also talked to a trans-identifying man to <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/07/22/1112500881/female-truck-driver-tips">learn</a> about the world of &#8220;women truckers&#8221; and what &#8220;they tell us about about living and working alone.&#8221;
Brandie Diamond describes himself as a &#8220;transgender truck driver/chef/Jill-of-all-trades&#8221; who used his &#8220;windshield time … to explore her [sic] identity as a transgender woman.&#8221;
Alone time is a great way to plot how to change your gender, NPR seems to suggest.

<h3>Transgender Dinosaurs</h3>
NPR once spent 10 minutes <a href="https://www.npr.org/2022/06/10/1104266396/lgbtq-communitys-battle-for-the-dinosaur-emoji-key-moments-from-jan-6-hearing">describing</a> the battle between pro- and anti-trans activists over the dinosaur emoji. To help explain the controversy, the outlet spoke to a trans-identifying science writer who <a href="https://x.com/Laelaps">uses</a> she/they/it pronouns.
LGBT activists love dinosaurs and use terms like &#8220;allysaurus&#8221; and &#8220;transceritops,&#8221; NPR explained between updates about January 6 hearings.
But then anti-trans activists started using dinosaur emojis.
&#8220;Dinosaurs are ours,&#8221; the science writer said, even though he admitted he doesn&#8217;t know why the LGBT Subreddit loves dinosaurs so much.
&#8220;This is a dark day,&#8221; Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in response to the NPR cuts.
Well, maybe it is for the transgender dinosaurs. The rest of us are just fine.

To Celebrate NPR Losing Federal Funds, Here Are Seven Of Its Worst Stories

A tsunami advisory is in effect for parts of the Alaska Peninsula following a large, underwater earthquake.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration initially issued a warning for coastal areas from Kennedy Entrance, about 40 miles southwest of Homer, to Unimak Pass, about 80 miles northeast of Unalaska. The warning has been downgraded to an advisory.
The warning came after a magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit about 54 miles south of Sand Point, Alaska, <a href="https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000qd1y/executive">according</a> to the U.S. Geological Survey. A major earthquake capable of &#8220;serious damage&#8221; is a quake of magnitude 7.0 to 7.9.
Earlier in the day, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit 45 miles southeast of Atka Village, Alaska.
&#8220;Coastal Alaska communities live with the most serious tsunami risk in the United States,&#8221; <a href="https://earthquake.alaska.edu/about-tsunamis-alaska">according</a> to the Alaska Earthquake Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Tsunamis can be caused by &#8220;any large movement of land in or near the ocean,&#8221; including earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions, the center&#8217;s website says. There have been more than 15,000 earthquakes reported in Alaska this year.
Magnitude 7 to 8 earthquakes happen about once per year, <a href="https://seagrant.uaf.edu/topics/environmental-hazards-alaskas-coasts/earthquakes-tsunamis/">according</a> to Sea Grant Alaska.
The NOAA issues tsunami warnings for any seismic activity greater than magnitude 7.0, <a href="https://www.weather.gov/media/ajk/brochures/Alaska_Tsunamis.pdf">according</a> to a NOAA informational sheet.
&#8220;Warnings are issued when the earthquake information or tsunami forecasts indicate that a wave over one meter in amplitude is expected, possible, or ongoing,&#8221; the info sheet said.
According to the NOAA&#8217;s U.S. Tsunami Warning System, &#8220;Tsunamis that cause damage or deaths near their source occur approximately twice per year. Tsunamis that cause damage or deaths on distant shores (more than 1,000 kilometers, 620 miles, away) occur about twice per decade.&#8221;

President Donald Trump “has done a good job” fixing “internal problems” at the Department of Justice and FBI, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) told The Daily Wire in an exclusive interview.
Despite “some internal rifts” — a reference to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hes-in-good-shape-trump-speaks-with-bongino-after-flare-up-with-bondi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> tension between Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino — the agencies are committed to getting rid of “bad actors.”
“Kash Patel has been cleaning up the FBI and trying to get rid of the bad actors,” Scalise told Daily Wire White House Correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan on Tuesday during the Republican Study Committee&#8217;s &#8220;new media row&#8221; event. “There will be consequences, hopefully, for the things that they did. If they crossed lines, we’re going to bring accountability.”
Scalise said he trusts Trump will do the right thing with the Jeffrey Epstein files. He said he doesn’t know if Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell will testify before Congress.
“Obviously, there were a lot of questions about the Epstein case. I haven’t been privy to those documents, the classified information,” Scalise said. “Look, I trust Donald Trump and his judgment. And ultimately, I think he’s going to get the right answers.”
Scalise said it’s “alarming” that, one year after Trump was shot at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the country still doesn’t know much about the shooter.
“But at least the president is doing the things that he said he would do,” Scalise said.
Scalise was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/scales-returns-floor-house-today-hank-berrien?author=Hank+Berrien&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Scalise+Returns+To+The+Floor+Of+The+House+Today" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shot</a> in 2017 during the GOP’s practice for the Congressional Baseball Game. He said when he heard Trump had been shot, he wanted to extend the same support that he received years before.
“That night, President Trump came to the hospital with the first lady, Melania, and they were checking on me,” Scalise said. “I wanted to reach out and I texted the president and, obviously, he said he was doing well, but I wanted to look him in the eye, and I got to see him in person just a few days later.”
Scalise said Trump is “a man of strength and resilience.”
“We saw him stand up, even with blood running down his face, saying, ‘Fight, fight, fight,’” Scalise said. “I think that was such an iconic moment where the country, I think, has always known President Trump is a fighter for them — but they saw it that day.”
Scalise said he thinks the assassination attempt changed how Trump approached his second term.
“President Trump knows that he knows that it could have gone the other way, but it didn’t,” Scalise said. “And so I think he has an even sharper focus as a president in this second term than in his first term.”
Scalise said he’s concerned about increased violent rhetoric from the Left, especially calls for violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
“It’s encouraging violent behavior. You’re seeing people attacking our law enforcement, including ICE agents, and they’re spurred on by a lot of the rhetoric from the Left that’s got to stop,” Scalise said.
The House majority leader said he wished the Left would condemn violence instead of ignoring it.
“The easiest thing to do is, if somebody is spurred to go commit violence, that we all quickly call it out,” Scalise said. “And you’re not seeing that right now from the Left, because it&#8217;s almost like they&#8217;re afraid of the most radical elements of their base. And sometimes you need to be a leader and step up.”
“This stuff isn’t coincidental, and words have actions,” Scalise added.
The next agenda item for the Republican Party, Scalise said, is telling the country about the One Big Beautiful Bill.
Democrats have “lied in every kind of way about this bill. We’ve actually had ads taken down, which is not easy to do because the lies have been so egregious,” Scalise said. “But now let’s go tell the truth.”
Scalise referenced the tax breaks and tax-free income in the bill.
“If you&#8217;re a waiter or waitress, you&#8217;re not going to have to pay taxes on tips. If you’re somebody who works overtime from a shift worker to a nurse to a police officer, you won’t be having to pay taxes on overtime, and it’s retroactive to January,” Scalise said. “Seniors get a tax break for small business owners.”
“The One Big Beautiful Bill was really a culmination of all of those promises that were talked about on the campaign trail to actually deliver for those families,” Scalise said.

Conservatives criticized NBC News over a report comparing a Republican congressman&#8217;s use of a digital signature with former President Joe Biden&#8217;s use of an autopen to grant presidential pardons.
In an <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/lead-investigator-james-comer-biden-autopen-digital-signature-rcna216719">article</a> published on Tuesday with the headline, &#8220;Lead investigator into Biden&#8217;s use of an autopen signed letters with a digital signature,&#8221; the outlet examined letters from Rep. James Comer (R-KY) in Adobe Acrobat and found they were signed digitally. Comer is the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating Biden&#8217;s use of the autopen.
Biden recently admitted he used the autopen for mass pardons, but &#8220;did not individually approve each name for the categorical pardons that applied to large numbers of people,&#8221; <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admits-he-used-autopen-for-mass-criminal-pardons-says-he-didnt-review-every-case?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=Biden+Admits+He+Used+Autopen+For+Mass+Criminal+Pardons%2C+Says+He+Didn%E2%80%99t+Review+Every+Case">according</a> to The New York Times. A Comer spokesperson called the comparison &#8220;absurd.&#8221;
&#8220;Using digital signatures for official correspondence is a common practice for both Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives. Chairman Comer has never hidden the fact that he uses a digital signature when appropriate, and he approves all official correspondence that is signed digitally,&#8221; a spokeswoman from the House Oversight Committee told NBC News. &#8220;Legally binding subpoenas issued by Chairman Comer always bear a wet signature and are never signed using an autopen or digital signature. Comparing Chairman Comer’s use of digital signatures for letters to the unauthorized use of an autopen in the Biden White House for legally binding executive actions is absurd and misleading. The two are not even remotely comparable.&#8221;
Later in the story, NBC News noted digital signatures are widely used in Congress.
&#8220;The use of digital signatures has been common in Washington for decades, both in the White House and in Congress,&#8221; the report said. &#8220;Members of Congress and their staff regularly use printed versions of their signatures to respond to the voluminous amount of correspondence they receive.&#8221;
Comer responded to the story on social media.

At least two people are dead after heavy rains triggered widespread flooding in the New York City area and beyond, officials confirmed on Tuesday, after more than two inches of rain fell in one hour on Monday night, the second-wettest hour ever recorded in the city.
In Plainfield, New Jersey, about 30 miles away from New York City, flooding swept away a vehicle, killing two people inside.
Subway service was delayed on multiple lines Monday night at the height of the storm, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/nyc-subway-station-flooding-service-alerts/">reported</a>. The downpour flooded multiple stations in Manhattan.
&#8220;The New York City sewer system, the storm water system, accommodates about an inch and a half to an inch and three quarters an hour,&#8221; Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chair and CEO Janno Lieber told CBS News. &#8220;Last night, in that one hour, we had well over 2 inches of rain. So what happens is the system backs up into the subway.&#8221;

The flooding left some riders stranded, while others navigated pools of water on still-functioning platforms. Subway lines restored service Monday night with delays.
New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency as multiple counties were under flash flood warnings. He attributed the storm damage to climate change, saying, &#8220;We New Jersey, we America, we the globe, are getting dragged by climate,&#8221; The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/07/15/nyregion/new-york-jersey-floods">reported</a>.
Rescue crews pulled drivers from stalled cars while roads shut down. Authorities launched boats into flooded streets after a river overflowed, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/new-jersey-flash-flooding-rescues/">according</a> to CBS News.
Rafts, a giant truck, and a frontloader rescued people.
Conditions are expected to clear on Tuesday as the storm shifts southward.
The flooding comes after flash floods hit Texas, killing more than 130 people, ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/live-updates/texas-flooding-live-updates/?id=123729682">reported</a>. More than 100 people remain missing.
