The 65 billion barrels cited by Trump represent a substantial portion of the country’s known reserves.
Venezuela has historically produced only a fraction of the oil its reserves would suggest. Years of economic collapse, sanctions, government mismanagement and deteriorating infrastructure have crippled the country’s oil industry, leaving Venezuela responsible for only about 1% of global oil production despite possessing roughly 17% of the world’s oil reserves.

A/I, as the State Department has nicknamed the group, is linked to notorious Antifa groups in the United States like Rose City Antifa, Stop Cop City, and Against Beltway Fascism, all of which have doxxed and harassed ICE and Homeland Security employees, as well as top conservative organizations like The Heritage Foundation.
Autistici/Inventati presents itself as an Italian technology collective offering privacy-focused tools to help activists and social movements. In reality, the group creates a digital infrastructure for Antifa groups in the United States and around the world, a State Department official shared with The Daily Wire, hosted on websites with the name &#8220;noblogs.org.&#8221; Those groups harass, doxx, and commit violence against their targets, who are often conservative or oppose far-left causes.
One such group is Rose City Antifa. Noblogs websites are designed to give these groups as much anonymity and encryption as possible. They are hosted on servers and outright built by members of the Autistici/Inventati collective, a State Department official shared. Now, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has designated Autistici/Inventati as a terrorist organization.
&#8220;Today, the United States sanctioned several transnational far-left terrorist networks, including Autistici/Inventati — a major far-left tech collective whose services are used by the most active and violent Antifa cells in the United States and across the world,&#8221; Rubio said Wednesday.
&#8220;There will be no refuge for violent extremists who wage war on our civilization and plot to undermine law and order, destroy critical infrastructure, assault political opponents, or conspire to conceal their crimes from authorities,&#8221; he vowed. &#8220;We will use all the tools and authorities at our disposal to fight terrorism and protect our way of life from terrorist coercion.&#8221;

President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-designates-antifa-a-major-terrorist-organization">designated</a> Antifa a domestic terrorist organization in 2025 following a series of violent confrontations involving activists and federal immigration authorities. The administration has since pursued terrorism charges against alleged Antifa militants involved in an armed attack on an ICE detention facility in Texas and has pushed international governments to cooperate against what it describes as transnational political extremism.
The administration&#8217;s focus has increasingly extended beyond individual violent actors to the infrastructure supporting them. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned Wednesday that the administration would target those who provide financial and logistical support to violent far-Left groups. 
“Far-Left extremists, their fronts, and their enablers should be on notice: We will bring the full weight of our economic tools to bear,” Bessent told Fox News. “Political terrorism has no place in our society, and we will continue to cut the financial lifelines of these groups until they are eliminated.”
Rubio said the administration would continue using its counterterrorism and economic authorities against the networks. 
“We will use all the tools and authorities at our disposal to fight terrorism and protect our way of life from terrorist coercion,” Rubio said.

The United States formally removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, ending a designation that had remained in place since 1979 and clearing a major obstacle to foreign investment as the country attempts to rebuild after nearly 14 years of civil war.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio <a href="https://x.com/SecRubio/status/2091962663072899131">announced</a> Monday that he had formally rescinded Syria’s designation following the completion of a mandatory 45-day congressional notification period. The Treasury Department simultaneously <a href="https://ofac.treasury.gov/recent-actions/20260824">removed</a> Islamist paramilitary group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from its list of specially designated global terrorists. 
The decision marks a dramatic reversal in Washington’s relationship with Damascus following the fall of longtime Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. Syria had originally been designated a state sponsor of terrorism in 1979 under Assad’s father, Hafez al-Assad, in large part because of the regime’s support for Palestinian militant organizations. 
“Rescinding Syria’s designation as an SST and HTS’ designation as an SDGT eliminates the final major barriers for private sector investment in Syria and promotes Syria’s economic recovery and reintegration into the global economy,” Rubio wrote in his announcement on X.
With Syria&#8217;s removal, only three countries remain on the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism list: Cuba, Iran, and North Korea. 
The State Department <a href="https://www.state.gov/releases/office-of-the-spokesperson/2026/08/rescission-of-syrias-designation-as-a-state-sponsor-of-terrorism/">said</a> the decision reflects actions taken by the government of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to distance itself from international terrorism. Over the past year, Syria has joined the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and conducted operations against ISIS, al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, and Iran-aligned groups, according to Rubio. 
The administration&#8217;s decision also follows President Donald Trump’s broader effort to dismantle the sanctions regime imposed on Syria during the Assad era. Trump signed an <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/06/providing-for-the-revocation-of-syria-sanctions/">executive order</a> in June 2025 directing the revocation of the Syria sanctions program, and formally initiated the process of removing Syria from the terrorism list in July.
The designation carried significant restrictions on U.S. foreign assistance, defense exports, and certain financial transactions. Its removal, therefore, gives international companies and financial institutions substantially greater ability to conduct business with Syria. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0612">said</a> the move would “help foster additional investment in Syria to promote political and economic stability.” That investment could be particularly significant as Syria faces the enormous task of rebuilding infrastructure destroyed during its civil war. In 2025, the World Bank <a href="https://www.worldbank.org/en/news/press-release/2025/10/21/syria-s-post-conflict-reconstruction-costs-estimated-at-216-billion">estimated</a> the cost of Syria&#8217;s postwar reconstruction at roughly $216 billion.
Syrian officials have characterized the removal as a crucial step toward reconnecting the country with the international financial system. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani said before the announcement that lifting the designation would remove what he described as the “last obstacle” to investment and economic activity in Syria. 
The geopolitical stakes could extend beyond Syria&#8217;s economic recovery. Syria&#8217;s geographic position on the Mediterranean also gives it potential importance to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/18/world/middleeast/strait-hormuz-blockade-iran-war-syria-oil.html">regional energy and trade routes</a>, particularly as disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz continue to affect the movement of oil and gas.
Syria&#8217;s Mediterranean ports could eventually provide an alternative route for regional energy exports, although taking advantage of that opportunity would require substantial investment in roads, ports, utilities, and other infrastructure devastated during the war.
The move also represents a remarkable transformation for al-Sharaa himself. The Syrian president previously led HTS, which had been designated as a terrorist organization by the United States. Washington formally <a href="https://www.state.gov/releases/office-of-the-spokesperson/2025/07/revoking-the-foreign-terrorist-organization-designation-of-hayat-tahrir-al-sham">revoked</a> HTS&#8217; Foreign Terrorist Organization designation in July 2025 and has now removed its separate designation as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. 
Al-Sharaa led the rebel offensive that toppled Assad in December 2024 and subsequently moved to establish a new Syrian government. The Trump administration has increasingly engaged with him as a potential partner, with Trump meeting the Syrian leader and publicly supporting the country&#8217;s reintegration into the international community.

Today, the Trump administration announced sanctions against two International Criminal Court (ICC) officials, President Tomoko Akane of Japan and the ICC&#8217;s senior trial lawyer, Abdoulaye Seye of Senegal. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the organization “corrupt and fatally politicized.” This follows Rubio last month setting the proverbial cat among the pigeons, <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2026/07/13/politics/rubio-dismantle-international-criminal-court">declaring</a> his intentions to “dismantle” the ICC — urging other nations to join the effort. Rubio launched the campaign, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clyl33q0jk0o">vowing</a> to employ “all the tools at our government&#8217;s disposal&#8221; to &#8220;dismantle the ICC, brick by brick.”
Against the backdrop of the Trump administration’s escalating actions against the ICC, Rubio <a href="https://www.nybooks.com/online/2026/07/18/so-called-international-law-trump-icc/">accused</a> the court of “waging a war against our country, not with bullets or missiles,” but with “the force of so-called international law.”
A warped sense of justice?
The administration’s ire against the ICC <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2026/07/13/politics/rubio-dismantle-international-criminal-court">dates</a> back to President Trump’s first term, when it targeted the ICC for seeking to investigate alleged war crimes committed by U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Indeed, the second Trump administration has imposed a slew of sanctions against ICC officials for their attempts to investigate the U.S. and Israel — neither of which is even a member of the ICC.
But the new trigger for the White House&#8217;s intensifying punitive action against the ICC is the scandalous issue of <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/imposing-sanctions-on-the-international-criminal-court/">arrest warrants</a> against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
In a feeble ICC attempt to feign evenhandedness, warrants were also issued against Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, Ismail Haniyeh — after their deaths — which, quite apart from the absurdity of equating the perpetrators of the October 7 massacre with those who responded to it, underscores the warped sense of justice the ICC purports to administer.
Gravely misinformed or grossly dishonest
The figure behind these measures was the ICC’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, who initiated the arrest warrant requests. Khan has since been forced to leave office following multiple <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/karim-khan-icc-war-crimes-charges-israel-netanyahu-hamas-sexual-misconduct-claims/">allegations</a> of sexual misconduct. According to <a href="https://www.ynetnews.com/article/h13yvd1wxx">some sources</a>, the arrest warrants were motivated, at least in part, to divert attention from these allegations.
Notably, Khan is not the only chief ICC prosecutor against whom allegations of severe impropriety have been leveled.
For example, <a href="https://www.justiceinfo.net/tag/fatou-bensouda-en">Fatou Bensouda</a>, who prior to her appointment as chief ICC prosecutor in 2012, held top posts in the Gambian judiciary under the brutal military dictatorship that ruled Gambia from 1994 to 2017.
Bensouda claimed she had no knowledge of the human rights abuses of the regime she served. However, given her seniority and long association with the regime, this leaves one to ponder which is worse: Being oblivious of the abuses, gravely ill-informed, or grossly deceitful.
Sexual misconduct &amp; financial shenanigans?
Likewise, Bensouda&#8217;s predecessor, Luis Moreno Ocampo, the ICC&#8217;s first prosecutor from 2003 to 2012, also fell under a cloud of suspicion — both while in office and after leaving it.
Ocampo was <a href="https://brownstone.org/articles/a-one-time-icc-advocate-recants">accused</a> of sexual misconduct in South Africa by an ICC <a href="https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/11537858">whistleblower.</a> Although Ocampo&#8217;s ICC cronies dismissed the charges, the whistleblower was vindictively dismissed by Ocampo himself — despite the ICC’s own internal Disciplinary Advisory Board’s <a href="https://brownstone.org/articles/a-one-time-icc-advocate-recants/">call</a> to rescind the dismissal.
Undeterred, the whistleblower appealed to the Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which found resoundingly in his favor, awarding him substantial monetary compensation, casting further doubts on the ICC’s integrity.
After leaving the ICC in 2012, Ocampo became the subject of several <a href="https://www.jns.org/opinion/column/martin-sherman/trump-tripp-and-conflict-resolution">allegations</a> concerning his financial and professional activities. These included the abuse of his position as former ICC prosecutor, shady financial shenanigans, and severe conflicts of interest.
These allegations stemmed primarily from the far-reaching <a href="https://www.legal-tools.org/doc/895f3b/pdf/">2017 &#8220;Secrets of the Court&#8221;</a> investigation by the European Investigative Collaborations. While the allegations did not result in judicial convictions, the ethical issues they raised tarnished his reputation and, by association, the ICC’s judicial practices.
The Israeli angle
For Israel, Rubio’s initiative is a welcome development. For it serves to undermine the legitimacy of the ICC measures against senior Israeli personnel and expose just how the hypocrisy-ridden ICC has strayed from its lofty founding principles and noble aims.
For the fallen Karim Khan and his cronies, it perhaps reflects that biblical maxim in Numbers 24:9: “Whoever blesses Israel will be blessed. And whoever curses Israel will be cursed.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio was just outed for his love of Pop-Tarts. But in the MAHA era, we thought his go-to treat could use a makeover, so we made healthier “Pop-Tarts” in Rubio’s favorite flavors. 
After defending Pop-Tarts as “one of the great American innovations in the history of the world” on “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/24K4ReMN2sA?t=13&amp;feature=share">The Katie Miller Podcast</a>,” Rubio hit up <a href="https://x.com/marcorubio/status/2087694726619177031?s=46">X</a> to clear up fake news about anything other than his favorite flavor: cherry. 
But while we saw the tweets, we had to reach out for the deets. An admin source close to Rubio’s snack pantry told The Daily Wire: “Secretary Rubio’s favorite Pop-Tarts flavors are Cherry and Strawberry.” 
“I believe we have split the atom of breakfast,” Jerry Seinfeld’s character says about Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts in the movie “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lqRPUhPfho">Unfrosted</a>.” “We’re talking about happy childhoods for millions of American kids.” That’s pretty much what we’re doing over here, but with none of the processed stuff.
Yes, there are healthier toaster pastries on the market. But even if you’re cool with spending $5 per tart, they still often come with those pesky seed oils. Can we really do better than the “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1L18vH8v5E">$1 billion breakfast icon</a>”? Don’t threaten us with a good time. Taste-testing homemade Pop-Tarts all day is a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it. So we did all the hard work to bake a pastry that hits these marks:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Optional: melted salted butter for baking</li>

For the frosting:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">2 large egg whites, room temperature</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">2 teaspoons lemon juice</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Optional: freeze-dried strawberry and cherry crumbles</li>
</ul>
Method:
Prepare the filling. Whisk cornstarch with water in a small bowl and set aside. Add frozen strawberries or cherries, allulose, and date syrup to a small saucepan, and cook over medium heat until berries soften (about 5 minutes). Add cornstarch mixture, boil for 1 minute, then remove from the heat to cool. 
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, and line a baking sheet with parchment. Start the pastry by combining flour and salt in a large bowl. Next, cut butter into the flour mixture using a fork or pastry cutter until well-incorporated. (Work quickly to keep the pastry texture light and fluffy.) Add two tablespoons of ice water, and mix with a wooden spoon. Add up to 5 tablespoons of water — enough to form the dough into a ball that isn’t sticky or crumbly. 
Turn the pastry out onto a floured surface, and shape into a disc. Cover with a sheet of wax paper, and roll into a rectangle, about ¼-inch thick. Using a pizza cutter or knife, slice into 8 rectangles, then carefully place them onto the baking sheet. Whisk the egg, and using a brush or your finger, coat the perimeter of the bottom pastry layer with egg wash. Add 2 tablespoons of the filling to the layer with the egg wash, then place a second pastry layer on top. Gently press a fork along the edges to seal the pastry. Poke a fork or sharp knife into the top layer to allow steam to escape. Brush with an optional light layer of melted salted butter. Bake for about 25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.

Remove the pastry from the pan to a rack to cool completely. Then make the frosting. In a completely clean bowl of a stand mixer (can also use an electric hand mixer), whip egg whites until frothy. Add lemon juice. Then, slowly add all of the allulose sweetener for a “royal icing” texture. Color it by adding a few teaspoons of the leftover berry filling (skip the strawberry seeds and cherry skins), and frost the pastries. Sprinkle with crumbled freeze-dried berry “sprinkles.” Serve immediately or allow the frosting to air-dry for up to 8 hours to completely set.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he tried the ketogenic diet once, and it quickly became what he referred to as a &#8220;near-psychotic event.&#8221;
Rubio told podcast host Katie Miller — who is married to White House adviser Stephen Miller — that he&#8217;d tried the popular high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet, and the constant lack of sugar had made him so angry that he often felt like he might snap.
&#8220;I did, one time, maybe four or five years ago, I tried this thing called keto,&#8221; Rubio told Miller. &#8220;You&#8217;ve heard of this?&#8221;
Miller said she had, and Rubio continued, &#8220;And you just eat all this protein, so you go through this massive withdrawal from sugar and carbohydrates for the first 72 hours. It was a near-psychotic event for me.&#8221;
Jeanette Rubio, sitting beside her husband, laughed out loud, confirming, &#8220;It&#8217;s true. It&#8217;s true.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s like, if I did [keto] in this job, I would be in there, &#8216;Mr. President, we must bomb, you know, Paraguay,'&#8221; Rubio said, adding, &#8220;And it&#8217;s like, why? I don&#8217;t know, I&#8217;m just really mad, I haven&#8217;t had any sugar,&#8221; he laughed.

Trump has already tasked Rubio with several official jobs within the administration — which spawned constant speculation whenever a new vacancy appeared — and a viral meme was born.
An Oval Office photo of Rubio slouched on a couch — wearing an expression that suggests he&#8217;s not thrilled with the way things are going — became the template for hundreds of potential new jobs for the Secretary of State/Acting National Security Adviser/acting administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)/acting archivist of the National Archives and Records Administration.
