The Democratic Socialists of America are raising money to send members to Cuba so they can learn how to &#8220;dismantle [the] U.S. empire.&#8221;
The group set up the “Venceremos Fund,” named after a slogan popularized by Fidel Castro that translates to “We will overcome,” to raise money for the trips. The DSA has sent two <a href="https://www.dsausa.org/news/oct2025_npc_newsletter/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">delegations</a> to learn about what the organization calls “the achievements and challenges of Cuban socialism.”

According to the DSA, two delegations have already traveled to Cuba, including one this past October that included about 40 chapter leaders and rank-and-file members.
During the five-day visit, delegates met with <a href="https://reformandrevolution.org/2024/02/17/cuba-between-imperialism-and-socialism/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">leaders</a> of Cuba&#8217;s Communist Party, learning how the country&#8217;s one-party government drafts legislation, selects representatives, and conducts its parliamentary proceedings.
The DSA says the trips are designed to counter what it describes as American misinformation about Cuba.
&#8220;One of the most powerful ways to counter U.S. propaganda about Cuba is to see the country firsthand,&#8221; the organization said. &#8220;These delegations are crucial in dispelling misinformation, strengthening our movement, and equipping participants with the knowledge to advocate for change back home.&#8221;

After returning to the United States, participants hosted a webinar to share what they learned after meeting with Cuban workers, students, and officials about &#8220;the challenges and achievements of Cuban socialism under the U.S. blockade.&#8221; 
The DSA also <a href="https://international.dsausa.org/cuba-solidarity/our-work/">advocates</a> removing Cuba from the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism list, ending travel and trade restrictions, building relationships between American and Cuban labor unions, and sending humanitarian aid to the island.
The organization&#8217;s outreach to Cuba is not new. A DSA delegation also traveled there in 2023, where members reportedly held a <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20251016213647/https://through.blog/2023/11/09/cuba-diaries/">two-hour private meeting</a> with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
One delegate, Maria Franzblau, acknowledged Cuba&#8217;s food, medicine, and fuel shortages but argued those problems should be viewed in the context of being located &#8220;90 miles away from the most powerful capitalist empire in the world.&#8221;
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has argued that Cuba&#8217;s outreach to American leftists, including Hasan Piker, reflects a strategy dating back to Castro, whom Rubio said sought to wage a &#8220;much wider and bigger war&#8221; against the United States following the Cuban Revolution.
&#8220;Cuba matters to us because it&#8217;s 90 miles from our shores, and it has a direct impact on our national security — be it the things they&#8217;ve been involved in in the past, the countries they&#8217;ve aligned with in the past and currently,&#8221; he <a href="https://ebs.publicnow.com/view/46CC64098F83F68730FDCA078DD654308FF8741B?utm_source=chatgpt.com">said</a>.
The State Department has similarly <a href="https://www.aol.ca/articles/front-groups-fellow-travelers-state-225046000.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com">argued</a> that many far-Left activists are not directly controlled by Cuba, but support for the communist regime has become &#8220;de facto policy orthodoxy&#8221; among parts of the American Left.

Laura Ingraham says the American people are done with war. They won&#8217;t fight; won&#8217;t fund it; won&#8217;t support it, and that this new isolationism is going to win.
It might win. But that kind of thinking is dramatically wrong. It&#8217;s the kind of wrong that destroys countries and that could destroy America.
I understand why people feel the way they do. Gas prices are high. Families are stretched thin. Folks are looking at the grocery bill and their rent and thinking, “Why on earth are we spending blood and treasure halfway around the world and not even getting to the endpoint?”
But this is why it&#8217;s imperative that America wins and wins quickly.
There are three options. Number one: We win. We do what we have to do in order to achieve our goals. Number two: We fight antiseptically, and the war goes on pretty much forever. Number three: We go full isolationist and pacifist and then continue to fight forever wars forever, because that&#8217;s what will happen.
The choice is right there in front of us, which means there&#8217;s really only one choice: Victory.

Ingraham wrote on X, “The American people are done with war. They will not support war. They will not voluntarily pay for war. They will not make sacrifices to support war. They will not encourage their kids and grandkids to fight in wars. They won&#8217;t vote for politicians who promise war, and they will punish politicians who get them into war. It&#8217;s not Trump who&#8217;s making America more isolationist. It&#8217;s the American people. And they are going to win this fight.”
If that is how the American people are now operating, it&#8217;s a foolish and dangerous sentiment. The idea that we&#8217;ll never fund; we&#8217;ll never fight; we&#8217;ll never allow anyone to declare war; we&#8217;ll never get into a war? You may as well say that you will never allow the sun to rise, because the reality is that the world will come to you.
Let’s look into the sentiment that&#8217;s feeding this foolish point of view.
The American people are looking at the situation in the Middle East, and they don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s going on. It is confusing because it’s not clear whether the Strait of Hormuz is open.
President Trump said, “If you combine us and Venezuela, we have about 62% of the world&#8217;s oil market. So we don&#8217;t need Straits, we don&#8217;t need anything, we don&#8217;t need the Hormuz Strait. But we do it because we have to do it because we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”
With the president saying that we shouldn&#8217;t care about the Strait, Americans are saying, “So why should we care about what we are doing there? Just hit the nuclear facilities and go home.”
It&#8217;s all discombobulated; it doesn&#8217;t feel like it moves us toward victory.
And then things get more complicated.
In reality, Iran is in very serious trouble. Iran&#8217;s economy is flat on its back. There are rifts inside the Iranian governing structure. Iran has no capacity to ship its oil out. They have no capacity to shoot down things that are flying over their country. That’s why they&#8217;ve been activating their friends, the Houthis.
I understand why people are confused and upset. It feels like things are stalemated, and even that they&#8217;re getting broader and more difficult.
Why? Because what the American people want is victory. There&#8217;s this bizarre notion in foreign policy that the American people are deeply worried about the immediate cost of war to the enemy, that the American people can&#8217;t handle the ugliness of war for even a day, and that every conflict has to be totally antiseptic.
I&#8217;m not even talking about the American willingness to undergo casualties. No one in America wants American casualties. It&#8217;s a tragedy and a horror. We do understand that war does come along with casualties, and we are willing to undergo those casualties in pursuit of an end and a victory for America.
But as far as the idea that America can&#8217;t hit Kharg Island because the Iranian people would then be deprived of oil resources, the American people are not particularly concerned about that. We are far more concerned with why we&#8217;re there and not winning.
You have to balance these options. We would like to be antiseptic and to win. But victory wins over antiseptic every time. If antiseptic wins over victory, then you will get neither victory nor antiseptic.
That is how this works. In reality, always and forever, there are only three real possibilities, and those possibilities stack up to only one choice. The first possibility is you go fast and you go hard and we win. That means we bomb their nuclear facilities into dust. We bomb Kharg Island, we bomb South Pars. We put the regime on its last legs. We destroy their fields and their capacity for a final result. We force open the Strait.
The president wanted to do this, remember? He tried to do this for one day with Project Freedom in the Strait. It was one day. One day. And then the Saudis said no.
We have to tell them to shove it; we&#8217;re going to do it anyway. Allies like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia should help us militarily. They should provide us with soldiers for use on the north shore of Hormuz and on Qeshm Island and Kharg Island. It may be uglier, and it may be costlier, but it&#8217;s faster, and we win.
War is bad. It is hell. It is awful. It always has been, and it always will be. War is the infliction of pain on the enemy to the point where they no longer want to undergo that pain while you are able to withstand pain. That&#8217;s what war is. It is a test of willpower and a test of pain tolerance.
But war is also and forever a necessary tool in the American arsenal. It always has been. It always will be. So you ought to win, and you have to win as fast as possible.
As Marco Rubio said at an Asian summit in Manila: 
<blockquote>I saw Araghchi, the [Iranian] foreign minister, the other day say something about their policy is &#8220;an eye for an eye.&#8221; The president’s policy is &#8220;a head for an eye.&#8221; I mean, honestly, that’s what it’s gonna be. They will pay a very heavy price for the things they’re doing. They’re already paying a very heavy price. You guys don’t know it because you don’t cover it; you’re not in Iran; you’re not in the street; they don’t have a free media. But they’re going to continue to pay a very heavy price; their industrial base has been decimated; their defense industrial base has been decimated. They’re losing launchers; they’re losing radars every single night.</blockquote>
This is correct. It&#8217;s not an eye for an eye. It&#8217;s a head for an eye.
That&#8217;s option one: Actual victory.
Option two: Go antiseptic. This is the strategy of gradual escalation. We tried it in Vietnam. We have to be as clean as possible; it’s the strategy of an eye for an eye or tit for tat, or you hit a ship, and we hit a bridge.
But here’s the thing about the Iranians: they are perfectly willing to put out their own eye if it means you lose an eye.
An Iranian analyst close to the Iranian regime threatened, “It&#8217;s time to evacuate Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and probably Oman.”  Trump is saying “an eye for an eye,” and the Iranians are saying “an eye for everything.”
Why is Iran doing that? Iran doesn&#8217;t have the military capacity to do all of that. We do. Why is he making that threat? Because he knows that threat works. It turns out that antiseptic and proportional in the statistical sense is very, very bad and foolish foreign policy. What you&#8217;re relegated to if you end up with this sort of tit-for-tat strategy is hoping they eventually collapse from within.
I never thought the administration would end up with this option, because historically, President Trump didn’t like this. He didn&#8217;t like forever wars; he liked the big spectacular strike that was over quickly, like the attack on Venezuela’s Maduro, or “Let&#8217;s kill Qasem Soleimani and then he&#8217;s dead,” or “Let&#8217;s hit the nuclear facilities in Iran, and then let&#8217;s leave,” as he did with Operation Midnight Hammer.
It seems that the president originally wanted to go very hard, but he was talked out of it by Turkey and Saudi Arabia and some of his own advisers, and then he got stuck in this tit-for-tat, gradual escalation, gradual de-escalation routine. And now we&#8217;re stuck here.
The quickest path to a forever war is to eschew using overwhelming force.
Option three: Give up on war. Give up on military optionality. Give up global power, recede within your own borders.
Isolationist pacifism has been tried before. It is legitimately one of the great failures in all of world history.
After World War I, when the Allies had imposed a peace on Germany, the Allies then refused to actually hold Germany to that peace. You can make the case that the Treaty of Versailles was too strenuous in its desire for reparations from the Germans; there’s a solid historical case for that.
But — there is no question that if France had stood up to Germany, if the Brits had stood up to Germany, if America had stood up to Germany in the interwar period, World War II would never have happened. Instead, Great Britain, France, and the United States all attempted to pursue a pacifist and isolationist strategy, and this led to the worst and most costly war in all of human history.
You don&#8217;t have to speculate that this is what they were trying to do. They openly said they were trying to do this. In 1928, the United States Secretary of State and the French foreign minister designed the so-called Kellogg-Briand pact. It outlawed war as an instrument of policy. The signatories to that agreement that outlawed war were the U.S., France, the U.K., along with Germany, Italy, and Japan.
You may notice that it didn&#8217;t work out well.
This is the theme of Churchill&#8217;s &#8220;The Gathering Storm,&#8221; the first volume of his World War II history. In 1933, students at Oxford University famously voted in favor of the so-called “King and Country” resolution. That resolution said that the students would “under no circumstances fight for king and country.”
That sounds exactly like what Laura Ingraham is saying.
Over the course of the 1930s, the United States slashed our military to the bone. By the time World War II broke out, the United States had the 19th largest military on planet Earth. We were stacked behind Portugal.
One of the reasons that World War II took so long and killed so many people is that once the United States got involved after December 7, 1941, it took us fully three years to rearm and then four years to win. If we had had that weaponry at the ready, would Pearl Harbor ever have happened?
Isolationism plus pacifism is a deadly combination because it turns out the world is a deadly place. Our enemies are not going to subscribe to those notions.
There&#8217;s also this very ahistorical notion that American foreign policy was once truly isolationist and pacifist. That’s nonsense. If you look at the history of America&#8217;s wars, America has been involved in conflicts all over the globe almost since its founding. We were fighting wars with the Barbary pirates under Thomas Jefferson.
Our national interests have always extended beyond pure physical threat. I know that some people think, “Unless we get physically hit, we cannot get involved in conflict.”
That is stupid. We have interests that require us to defend them. And sometimes — with luck as rarely as possible — that requires military force.
But to pretend otherwise is to be stupid.
The idea that America is supposed to lose or surrender to a third-rate regime that is shooting drones at ships opens the door to actual, significantly larger threats. Money will pour into Iran from China and Russia. They&#8217;ll rearm stronger than they ever were. China and Russia themselves will flex their muscle if you choose this path.
Americans are not pacifists. We&#8217;re not isolationists. We don&#8217;t like to lose. We like to win.
So let’s go do it.

President Donald Trump may be looking at potential strikes on another growing Islamic terrorist hotbed in the coming weeks — this time in the West African nation of Mali.
The Trump administration has reportedly been considering strikes against Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an Al Qaeda-linked militant group operating in the Sahel region that has attacked both local militias and international forces and has endeavored to enforce strict Islamic law throughout its areas of control.
The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2026/07/22/trump-administration-weighs-military-options-mali-officials-say/">reported</a> on Wednesday that the Trump administration is divided on military action — and said that one of those in favor of such is the current National Security Council’s senior director for counterterrorism, Sebastian Gorka.
One official did tell the outlet that, despite that division, the United States had been encouraging other nations in the region &#8220;to purchase U.S. equipment and services to support their war efforts against the terrorists.&#8221;
The entire region has been in a state of upheaval in recent years as a series of Russia-backed coups upended democratically elected governments in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger — and the three nations have increasingly rejected ties with Western nations, instead joining together as The Alliance of Sahel States.
As The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/they-kicked-america-out-now-theyre-being-hunted-by-jihadists">previously reported</a>, Niger overtly rejected the United States when President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration delivered an ultimatum just as the West African nation was inking a deal to provide Iran with Uranium. The Biden administration demanded that Niger cut ties with Russia and Iran, but the military junta running things at the time was disinclined to acquiesce. Instead, in addition to refusing Biden&#8217;s ultimatum, Niger ousted all remaining American military assets from the country — including a drone base that was used to target terrorists in the region.
Zineb Riboua, a research fellow at the Hudson Institute’s Center for Peace and Security in the Middle East, told The Daily Wire that the Biden administration&#8217;s presentation may have been the crux of the problem: &#8220;Instead of presenting it as an ultimatum, they could have presented an alternative. Instead of doing a uranium deal with Iran, why don’t you do one with the United States, and you get a school program or something in Niger, something they don’t have.&#8221;
But once the United States was gone, it was soon quickly apparent that the Russian security forces with whom they&#8217;d cast their lots were more of a liability than an asset. As previously reported, &#8220;The Russians were killing untold numbers of civilians and still somehow managing to cede ground to the jihadists. In fact, in Burkina Faso and Mali, the Russians and government forces actually killed more civilians last year than the jihadists.&#8221;
The situation has only deteriorated in the years since, leading to the current consideration of possible military action.
&#8220;We urge regional partners and NATO allies to support the Alliance of Sahel States in their war against JNIM and ISIS,&#8221; the Trump administration official told The Washington Post, noting that partnership with Russia had clearly only allowed the terrorist factions to fester and grow. &#8220;We hope that other African nations take note of Russia’s terrible performance in combating terrorism.&#8221;
When asked, Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not say whether he supported military action. Instead, the State Department said that the United States &#8220;unequivocally condemns the terrorist activity in Mali.&#8221;

For those who don’t understand the determined nature of our president when it comes to confronting the despotic Iranian regime, Secretary of State Marco Rubio — mincing no words, as usual — laid down Trump’s Law.

They’re losing launchers; they’re losing radars every single night. They are suffering billions of dollars in damage, and their economy’s a disaster.”
Rubio then turned to the issue of other countries thinking the Iranian regime could be negotiated with:

So they’re probably not ready to do a deal yet, but they will be soon, because the price they’re paying is very high, despite their tough talk and their flowery language and their stupid LEGO videos they put out.

The Trump administration does not plan to intervene to stop the extradition of controversial influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate to the United Kingdom, despite the brothers&#8217; legal team urging Secretary of State Marco Rubio to step in.
A senior administration official told <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/07/22/trump-rubio-tate-brothers-extradition">Axios</a> on Wednesday that the United States will not block the proceedings as the brothers fight extradition in federal court. &#8220;The U.S. has an extradition treaty with the U.K. and the administration intends to honor it in this case,&#8221; the official said.
The State Department likewise indicated it has no plans to intervene. A senior department official said Rubio has not spoken with the Tate brothers or their attorneys and that the department &#8220;has no plans to act on this matter at this time.&#8221;

The brothers have thus far denied all wrongdoing, and they appeared Monday before a federal judge in Miami to begin extradition proceedings. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, argued outside the courthouse that the prosecution is politically motivated and has vowed to challenge the request. &#8220;We are of course objecting to extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent,&#8221; McBride told <a href="https://apnews.com/article/andrew-tristan-tate-sex-trafficking-rape-uk-miami-3a3748e075f49b00f286a003f5103485">reporters</a>. &#8220;They&#8217;ve never done nothing wrong. They shouldn&#8217;t be extradited for crimes they did not commit.&#8221;
McBride has also argued that Rubio has the authority to deny the extradition request if he determines the brothers are being politically persecuted. A new New Hampshire primary poll points to an early shake-up in the 2028 presidential race, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) leading the Democratic field while Secretary of State Marco Rubio gains ground on Vice President JD Vance among Republicans.
<a href="https://scholars.unh.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1982&amp;amp;context=survey_center_polls">The Granite State Poll,</a> conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, shows the Democratic socialist leading the hypothetical Democratic field with 22% support, narrowly ahead of former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 21%. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) placed third with 9%. 
Notably, the quarterly survey showed support slipping sharply for several other potential Democratic contenders, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris. Newsom&#8217;s support in the Granite State fell from 15% in February to just 8% in July. Harris, the failed 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, also saw her support cut in half, falling from 10% in February to 5% in July. 
“Nearly half of socialists and one-third of progressives support Ocasio-Cortez, while pluralities of liberals and moderates support Buttigieg,” the polling report said.

New Hampshire remains one of the nation&#8217;s most closely watched political battlegrounds, with its early primary serving as a crucial measure of presidential candidates&#8217; viability on the national stage. 
On the Republican side, the poll showed support for Vice President Vance slipping significantly. About 36% of likely GOP primary voters backed Vance, down sharply from 53% in February. Rubio appeared to capitalize on the shift, more than tripling his support from 7% to 26%.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley tied for third place at 8%. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis finished fifth with 6%, followed by former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard with 4%. 
Despite his decline, Vance enjoyed the highest favorability rating among New Hampshire Republican primary voters. The survey found GOP voters overwhelmingly want the party&#8217;s next nominee to build on President Donald Trump&#8217;s agenda, while only 28% said they preferred a candidate who would take the party in a different direction.
Neither Vance nor Rubio has publicly announced a presidential campaign. Still, Trump&#8217;s endorsement could prove decisive. More than 40% of Republican primary voters surveyed said his backing would significantly influence their vote.

The United States and Saudi Arabia are set to sign a landmark civil nuclear cooperation agreement Wednesday, advancing Riyadh&#8217;s long-sought nuclear ambitions and setting up a congressional fight over nuclear proliferation.
The agreement establishes a framework for American companies to help develop Saudi Arabia&#8217;s civilian nuclear program, including the potential construction of a uranium enrichment facility if a joint U.S.-Saudi study determines that enriching uranium inside the kingdom is economically justified. 
The 30-year agreement is estimated to be worth tens of billions of dollars and is intended to give American firms a central role in Saudi Arabia&#8217;s nuclear infrastructure, according to The <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/trump-approves-landmark-nuclear-deal-with-saudi-arabia-in-big-win-for-kingdom-2ed77584?st=eE7ySw&amp;reflink=article_copyURL_share">Wall Street Journal</a>.
Under the agreement, the United States and Saudi Arabia will conduct a two-year study examining whether it is more practical for the kingdom to enrich uranium domestically rather than importing nuclear fuel. If the study concludes domestic enrichment is warranted, American companies would build the facility under what The Wall Street Journal described as a &#8220;secretive black box arrangement&#8221; designed to prevent the transfer of sensitive nuclear technology. 
If Washington objects to enrichment, Saudi Arabia would reportedly be barred from pursuing it independently or with another country for at least 10 years. 
Trump administration officials argue that placing American companies at the center of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s nuclear program will give Washington greater oversight while helping ensure the kingdom&#8217;s civilian nuclear program cannot be diverted toward developing nuclear weapons.
Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman are expected to sign the agreement Wednesday afternoon.
While the agreement is intended to support Saudi Arabia&#8217;s civilian nuclear energy program, the possibility of Riyadh having nuclear weapons ambitions has raised concerns, especially since de facto leader Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has repeatedly said Saudi Arabia would pursue a nuclear weapon if Iran develops one.
In a 2018 interview with CBS News, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/15/saudi-arabia-iran-nuclear-bomb-threat-mohammed-bin-salman#:~:text=Crown%20prince%20Mohammed%20bin%20Salman%3A%20'Saudi%20Arabia,article%20is%20more%20than%208%20years%20old.">he said,</a> &#8220;If Iran developed a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible.&#8221; 
He reiterated that position during a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_u8ghPr3HE">2023 interview</a> with Fox News&#8217; Bret Baier, saying, &#8220;If they get one, we have to get one &#8230; for security reasons and for balancing power in the Middle East.&#8221; 
Riyadh views Iran as its primary regional rival, and the kingdom has increasingly linked its own security posture to Tehran&#8217;s nuclear program.
Still, Saudi Arabia has long sought civilian nuclear power as part of its effort to diversify its economy and free more of its oil production for export. 
The agreement is also expected to benefit American industry, with The Wall Street Journal reporting that Westinghouse Electric and its AP1000 reactor technology are among the companies expected to gain. 
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who as a senator was a vocal critic of Saudi Arabia obtaining nuclear capabilities, defended the agreement Wednesday.
&#8220;Suffice it to say, the U.S. is not going to reach any agreement with any country in the world that leads to the risk of proliferation,&#8221; Rubio told reporters.
The agreement is known as a &#8220;123 Agreement,&#8221; which establishes the legal framework for civilian nuclear cooperation between the United States and foreign governments. According to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/us/politics/trump-saudi-nuclear-deal.html">The New York Times</a>, the United States has 26 such agreements with 51 governments and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The agreement will be reviewed by Congress under the Atomic Energy Act, which allows lawmakers to block the agreement by passing a joint resolution of disapproval. However, Congress would need a two-thirds majority to override a likely presidential veto, making it unlikely the agreement would be rejected.
Still, some members of Congress including Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) have <a href="https://www.markey.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/no_nuclear_weapons_for_saudi_arabia_letter.pdf#:~:text=aid%20that%20the%20United%20States.%20%E2%80%9Cshould%20suspend,...%20Regrettably%2C%20it%20appears%20that%20the%20A">requested</a> clarification from the Trump administration as to how Saudi Arabia will be prevented from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Others have criticized the agreement because it differs from the nuclear cooperation agreement the United States reached with the United Arab Emirates in 2009, which became known as the &#8220;gold standard&#8221; for nuclear nonproliferation.
Under that agreement, the UAE permanently gave up the right to enrich uranium and adopted the International Atomic Energy Agency&#8217;s Additional Protocol, subjecting its nuclear program to more rigorous inspections.
The Trump administration argues its agreement with Saudi Arabia contains different safeguards, including extensive U.S. involvement in the kingdom&#8217;s nuclear program, that will allow Washington to closely monitor its development. 
Critics, however, contend the agreement weakens longstanding U.S. nonproliferation standards by allowing for the possibility of domestic uranium enrichment, giving Saudi Arabia infrastructure that could one day support a nuclear weapons program. They also warn the agreement could encourage other countries in the region — including Turkey, Egypt, and even the UAE — to pursue enrichment programs of their own.
Rubio has previously argued that any U.S. nuclear cooperation with Saudi Arabia should include strict nonproliferation safeguards.
In 2018, he <a href="http://sherman.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/senators-markey-and-rubio-and-reps-sherman-and-messer-introduce">co-sponsored bipartisan</a> legislation that would have required Congress to affirmatively approve any civil nuclear cooperation agreement with Riyadh while conditioning cooperation on Saudi Arabia permanently renouncing uranium enrichment, adopting the International Atomic Energy Agency&#8217;s Additional Protocol and meeting additional human rights conditions. 
The following year, Rubio joined then-Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in <a href="https://www.foreign.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/03-14-19%20RM%20Rubio%20Letter%20to%20GAO%20re%20123%20Agreement%20with%20KSA1.pdf">requesting</a> a Government Accountability Office review of the Trump administration&#8217;s nuclear negotiations with Saudi Arabia, citing concerns over transparency and nuclear proliferation.
In 2025, Wright and bin Salman Al Saud <a href="https://www.energy.gov/articles/us-energy-secretary-and-saudi-arabias-energy-minister-announce-deal-civil-nuclear">signed a</a> Joint Declaration on the Completion of Negotiations on Civil Nuclear Cooperation. At the time, Wright called it a “historic day.”
“We&#8217;ve come together on a deal for civil nuclear cooperation,” he said. “Together, with bilateral safeguard agreements, we want to grow our partnership, bring American nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia, and keep a firm commitment to nonproliferation.” 
The agreement had also been explored during the Biden administration, though negotiations were tied to a broader effort to persuade Saudi Arabia to normalize relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords. Those efforts largely stalled after Hamas&#8217; October 7, 2023, attack on Israel and the ensuing war in Gaza. 
The Trump administration instead pursued the nuclear agreement independently as part of its broader effort to deepen economic and strategic ties with the kingdom. 
During his trip to the kingdom last year, Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-secures-historic-investment-deal-from-saudi-arabia-on-first-day-of-middle-east-trip">announced</a> what the White House described as the largest defense sales agreement in history — a nearly $142 billion package providing Saudi Arabia with air and missile defense systems, maritime and coastal security capabilities, border security modernization and communications upgrades from more than a dozen American defense companies. 
The White House said the agreement forms part of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s broader $600 billion investment commitment in the United States and &#8220;represents a significant investment in Saudi Arabia&#8217;s defense and regional security, built on American systems and training.&#8221;

Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a straightforward <a href="https://x.com/StateDept/status/2079908555969245667">warning</a> on Wednesday about efforts to push communist influence inside the United States.
“The United States doesn’t want to be a communist country,” he said. “We’re never going to be a communist country. We’re not going to allow communist influences to undermine our politics or our society.”
“Our system doesn’t want communism,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And we’re certainly not gonna allow communist efforts to undermine American society and drive wedges into our country.”
Rubio identified the Cuban regime as one of the leading forces behind these kinds of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rubio-reveals-how-cuba-is-trying-to-undermine-america">operations</a> in the hemisphere. He tied the comments to a recent intelligence report from the administration.
Rubio also stressed that while the United States interacts with different governments and systems around the world, there is a clear boundary when it comes to protecting American institutions and society from communist subversion.

In that speech to delegates from more than 60 nations, Rubio described the militant networks as being driven by a deep hatred for civilization itself and laid out how America aimed at confronting them. Those steps include offering bounties to disrupt their financing and officially designating several violent far-Left groups as &#8220;Foreign Terrorist Organizations.&#8221;
Rubio called for dismantling these networks brick by brick. He reviewed the history of earlier movements that followed similar ideologies. He referenced groups such as the Tupamaros and the Montoneros in Latin America, the Shining Path in Peru, the Red Brigades in Italy, the Red Army Faction in Germany, and the Weather Underground in the United States. He also pointed to current trends showing far-Left violence increasing in several European countries. Rubio noted that such violence has risen more than 40% in Germany and makes up over 80% of radical violence in Greece.
Rubio outlined the administration&#8217;s responses to the issue, which include both domestic vigilance against influence operations and international coordination against violent extremist networks.

A group of Republicans led by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is threatening to block President Donald Trump&#8217;s push to make daylight saving time permanent. 
The Sunshine Protection Act would permanently keep clocks on daylight saving time, eliminating the twice-yearly clock changes Americans currently observe each spring and fall. The legislation passed the House by a bipartisan 308-117 vote. 
Cotton has argued that making daylight saving time permanent would create safety issues by delaying winter sunrises, particularly in northern states.
“By moving the clock back an hour in winter, permanent Daylight Saving Time would push winter sunrises to an absurdly late hour, depriving Americans of morning sunshine that’s essential for our safety and well-being,” Cotton said.
He also argued the change could push sunrise as late as 9:45 a.m. in parts of North Dakota, creating challenges for schoolchildren, construction workers, and farmers who rely on early morning daylight. 
Despite Cotton&#8217;s opposition, Trump has repeatedly urged Congress to approve the legislation.
After the bill advanced out of committee, Trump wrote that it was time for Americans to stop worrying about &#8220;the Clock&#8221; and described the current system as a &#8220;ridiculous, twice-yearly production.&#8221;
He also called permanent daylight saving time &#8220;the far more popular alternative&#8221; and urged Republicans to support the measure.
The legislation has since stalled in the Senate, where supporters must overcome objections from Cotton and other Republicans.
&#8220;I mean, the House having acted on it now, we&#8217;ll see what the interest level is in the Senate,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-faces-republican-rebellion-over-daylight-saving-time-senate-bill-nears-dead-end">Fox News.</a> “But I know that there are people who are willing to really slow things down over that issue.&#8221;
A source close to Cotton told Fox News that the Arkansas senator is &#8220;far from the only one who objects&#8221; to the bill and is working with other senators prepared to block it.
The Sunshine Protection Act was originally introduced by then-Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and later reintroduced with Sen. James Lankford (R-OK). A similar law briefly took effect during the 1970s energy crisis before Congress repealed it following backlash.
&#8220;[Daylight savings] is left over from World War I when America was trying to save lamp oil. We&#8217;re doing OK on lamp oil now, so that&#8217;s not the issue,&#8221; Lankford said. &#8220;With streetlights, with different power and things, we have — we&#8217;re in a very different situation. And I talk to a lot of folks that say they are just sick of the time change. They want to be able to lock the clock.&#8221;
Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), who has also championed the legislation, welcomed its passage in the House. 
“[Daylight Saving Time] is an unnecessary, decades-old practice that’s more of an annoyance to families than [a] benefit to them,” Scott <a href="https://www.murray.senate.gov/senator-murray-reintroduces-bipartisan-sunshine-protection-act-alongside-rick-scott-to-make-daylight-saving-time-permanent-and-lock-the-clock/">said</a> in a statement, calling on his other senators to “make this common sense change” to “LOCK THE CLOCK.”
The bill currently has 18 Senate co-sponsors, including eight Democrats, according to Congress.gov. 
The legislation-tracking website GovTrack <a href="https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/119/hr139">estimates</a> the Sunshine Protection Act a 35% chance of becoming law during the current Congress. 
Congress must approve the Sunshine Protection Act before the current congressional session ends in December 2026.

The report, released alongside a statement from the State Department, casts the Castro regime not simply as a geopolitical adversary, but as the ideological nucleus of what it describes as the modern radical Left. 
&#8220;For more than six decades, the Cuban regime has been the leading sponsor of radical leftism and Third Worldism in the United States,&#8221; Rubio wrote on <a href="https://x.com/SecRubio/status/2079190191160348777">X</a>. &#8220;The State Department is exposing the full history of Cuban espionage and subversion in our country. The American people deserve to know.&#8221;
The document, which reflects a longstanding priority of Rubio&#8217;s foreign policy agenda, argues that Cuba&#8217;s greatest success has not been military or economic, but ideological. &#8220;For nearly seven decades, the Cuban regime has waged a sustained campaign of subversion against the United States,&#8221; the report states. &#8220;It is a campaign that has infiltrated the highest reaches of the U.S. government, recruited and cultivated generations of American activists, backed an unprecedented wave of Left-wing terrorism on American soil, and carried out one of the most durable and damaging foreign intelligence penetrations in American history.&#8221;
According to the report, Havana developed an unconventional strategy centered on espionage, infiltration, proxy networks, and ideological influence rather than conventional warfare. &#8220;In contrast to every other aspect of Cuba&#8217;s failed state, this model has yielded remarkable success,&#8221; the report says.
The report alleges that Cuba trained and armed Left-wing guerrilla groups around the world, provided sanctuary to American fugitives convicted of terrorism, and successfully infiltrated senior levels of the U.S. government, including the State Department, Pentagon, and National Security Council.
Much of the document focuses on what it calls Cuba&#8217;s enduring influence over modern Left-wing activism in the United States.
The report claims Havana helped shape and support organizations ranging from the Black Panthers and the Weather Underground during the Cold War to more recent movements including Antifa. It further alleges that Cuban influence continues today through &#8220;leftist nonprofits, anti-ICE collectives, socialist groups, and Marxist militant organizations.&#8221;
&#8220;From its earliest years in power, the Cuban regime has believed that its own survival and strategic interests were inextricably linked to the advance of the revolutionary Left inside the United States,&#8221; the report argues. &#8220;The Cubans have always seen revolution in America as an end unto itself.&#8221;
Rather than characterizing Cuba as merely a Soviet satellite, the report argues the Castro regime developed its own distinct form of Marxism centered less on class struggle than anti-Western and anti-American revolutionary ideology.
&#8220;While the collapse of the Soviet Union &#8230; largely rendered the Soviet model of communism extinct, the Cuban Marxist project not only survived, but thrived,&#8221; the report states. &#8220;By the turn of the twenty-first century, Havana had solidified its place as the ideological capital of the modern radical left.&#8221;
The report also links Cuba to several of America&#8217;s most recent episodes of civil unrest. It argues that &#8220;many of the most significant upheavals in recent American political history — from the George Floyd riots to the rise of Antifa to the explosion of pro-terrorist activism on American college campuses — can be linked, in some way, shape, or form, to Cuban influence.&#8221;
The report further warns that Cuba remains an active intelligence threat, alleging the regime maintains networks inside American institutions while simultaneously serving as a staging ground for Russian, Chinese, and Iranian intelligence operations.
The report concludes by arguing that Cuba&#8217;s strategy has always been to undermine America from within rather than confront it directly. &#8220;The regime&#8217;s method was never primarily premised on kinetic warfare,&#8221; the report states. &#8220;It was subtler, and far more dangerous: to attack the United States not from without but from within — to turn Americans into instruments of their own nation&#8217;s undoing.&#8221;
The publication comes as the Trump administration has significantly increased pressure on Havana through sanctions, diplomatic measures, and renewed scrutiny of the communist government&#8217;s ties to hostile foreign powers. Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, has long been one of Washington&#8217;s most outspoken critics of the Castro regime and has repeatedly argued that the United States has underestimated Cuba&#8217;s role in exporting revolutionary ideology throughout the Americas.

To confront this highly coordinated, borderless network — which he linked directly to the intelligence operations of the Cuban regime and Iranian proxy networks — Rubio announced a sweeping American offensive. Under National Security Presidential Memorandum No. 7, the United States has instituted multi-million-dollar bounties to disrupt anarchist financing and officially designated multiple violent far-left groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
Rubio began by reminding the international coalition that the most essential duty of the state is the protection of its people. For the past quarter-century, he noted, that architecture was built entirely around combating radical Islamist extremism following the trauma of 9/11. He methodically cataloged a modern trail of blood: a 72-year-old mother firebombed to death in Greece, a devastating winter blackout sabotaged by militants in Berlin, Germany, and a young man beaten to death by far-left thugs on the streets of Lyon, France. This violence, Rubio stressed, is not a modern novelty but the resurgence of an old, poisonous resentment.
He invoked the grim history of the Cold War, forcing the room to remember the bloody campaigns of the Tupamaros, the Montoneros, and the inhuman savagery of Peru&#8217;s Shining Path. He reminded Europe of the Red Brigades and the Red Army Faction, and reminded America of the Weather Underground&#8217;s bombs. Today, that old evil has returned with terrifying efficiency, he explained.
Rubio revealed that far-left violence has jumped by more than 40 percent in Germany, while accounting for over 80 percent of radical violence in Greece.
He ended with a powerful promise to &#8220;dismantle these networks brick by brick.&#8221;
&#8220;It is time for the people of the civilized world to defend ourselves, to stand united against this encroaching darkness and fight,&#8221; Rubio said. &#8220;Fight for what is ours.&#8221;
&#8220;It is easy to destroy great things. It is far more difficult to make them. The enemies of civilization are only capable of the former. They are only capable of destroying great things. All they know is destruction. But we have built great things together. We have done it time and again. We know what we must do, and now we must do it.&#8221;

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is effectively running key parts of Venezuela from Washington, according to a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/11/us/politics/how-marco-rubio-runs-venezuela.html?campaign_id=190&amp;amp;emc=edit_ufn_20260712&amp;amp;instance_id=178606&amp;amp;nl=from-the-times&amp;amp;regi_id=306413263&amp;amp;segment_id=222970&amp;amp;user_id=1cd699f6e5698983afd2a8a4030b003b">New York Times report.</a> 
The Times reported that Rubio has taken a leading role in shaping Venezuela policy, including overseeing sanctions, influencing how the country&#8217;s oil revenue is managed, and maintaining regular contact with acting Venezuelan president Delcy Rodríguez following the U.S. operation that captured former dictator Nicolás Maduro.
According to the Times, much of Venezuela&#8217;s oil export revenue now flows through the U.S. Treasury before being disbursed under conditions set by Rubio and his team. The report says Rubio has also played a key role in determining which foreign companies receive sanctions exemptions to operate in the country while encouraging greater participation by American firms.
The Times also reported that Rubio has used that leverage to push Venezuela away from Iran, China, and Russia. According to the report, Rodríguez regularly consults Washington on major government appointments while Rubio’s team helps shape economic and diplomatic decisions.
The report provides additional context for testimony Rubio gave before Congress in January, when he argued the administration&#8217;s efforts were aimed at stabilizing Venezuela rather than occupying it.
“There is no war against Venezuela, and we did not occupy a country,” Rubio <a href="https://www.npr.org/2026/01/28/nx-s1-5690365/rubio-senate-venezuela">told</a> senators. “There are no U.S. troops on the ground.”
The administration named career diplomat Laura F. Dogu as chargé d’affaires to Venezuela, restoring a diplomatic post for the first time since 2019. For the first time in two decades, he added, serious talks are underway to roll back Iranian, Chinese, and Russian influence in the country.
Rubio has said the administration&#8217;s long-term goal is a stable and prosperous Venezuela that eventually holds free elections. The Times reported that, for now, Rubio continues to exercise significant influence over many of Venezuela&#8217;s most consequential financial and policy decisions.
