Former Vice President Kamala Harris is finally getting back on the campaign trail, and Florida could be next on her itinerary.
Democratic Florida gubernatorial nominee David Jolly said this month that he would welcome Harris to campaign with him, even saying she “should have beaten Donald Trump” in the 2024 presidential election. That would put Harris back on the trail in a state where she lost to President Donald Trump by more than 13 percentage points.
Jolly’s invitation raises eyebrows because he has sought to present himself as a candidate who can appeal beyond the Democratic base. But Harris is closely associated with left-wing positions on guns, healthcare, and abortion, many of which Jolly has also embraced to varying degrees.
During an appearance on <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/miami/video/1-on-1-with-david-jolly-as-floridas-gubernatorial-race-kicks-into-high-gear/">CBS Miami’s “Facing South Florida,”</a> Jolly said he would welcome Harris and “anyone” from the national Democratic Party to campaign alongside him. He also praised Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, saying her campaign brings “enthusiasm” to Democratic voters.
Jolly is set to face off with Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) in the Florida gubernatorial election. Donalds has been seen as the favorite, but last month the <a href="https://www.cookpolitical.com/governor/race/479481">Cook Political Report</a> downgraded his odds from “Solid R” to “Likely R.” Polls since the August 18 primaries <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/polls/florida-governor-election-polls-2026.html">have fluctuated heavily</a>, with Democratic-aligned surveys showing Jolly narrowly ahead and others showing a tie. The most recent, a <a href="https://www.stetson.edu/artsci/cpor/media/cpor-sept.-2026-poll-final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stetson University Poll</a> released Wednesday, found Donalds leading 51% to 39%.
The embrace comes as Harris is attempting to rebuild her political profile ahead of the 2026 midterms while considering another presidential campaign in 2028. Harris has had a mixed reception from Democrats on the campaign trail. Democratic candidates in Iowa, Alaska, and Kansas have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrats-avoid-kamala-like-the-plague-as-she-tries-to-flex-midterm-muscle">publicly declined or distanced themselves</a> from her involvement, while Michigan Senate nominee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/even-el-sayed-can-barely-sit-through-kamalas-dei-word-salad?author=Drew+Berkemeyer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Even+El-Sayed+Can+Barely+Sit+Through+Kamala%E2%80%99s+DEI+Word+Salad">Abdul El-Sayed</a> and Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) have welcomed her.
Florida would be a very different setting from some of those races. While both <a href="https://apnews.com/projects/election-results-2024/michigan/?r=0">Michigan</a> and <a href="https://apnews.com/projects/election-results-2024/georgia/?r=0">Georgia</a> were quite close in the 2024 election, Florida is a different case. According to the <a href="https://apnews.com/projects/election-results-2024/florida/?r=0">Associated Press,</a> Harris received 43% of the Florida vote in 2024, while Trump received 56.1%.
Jolly, meanwhile, has undergone his own political evolution. He left the GOP in 2018, spent years as an independent, and later joined the Democratic Party. Jolly has described himself as a former Republican who changed his views on several issues. On guns, that change has been particularly pronounced.
In a 2023 MSNBC interview, Jolly <a href="https://floridapolitics.com/archives/749132-byron-donalds-fires-shots-at-radical-democrat-david-jolly-over-second-amendment-statements/">said</a>, “You can say I don’t agree with the Second Amendment. Maybe I don’t. I don’t care,” and argued that America needed to “crush the culture of guns.” He has subsequently advocated for licensing, registration, and insurance requirements for firearms, universal background checks, and an assault-weapons ban.
His healthcare and insurance proposals also call for a significant government role. Jolly has proposed a state catastrophic insurance fund that would remove natural-disaster risks from the private insurance market. His campaign says the proposal would reduce property and automobile insurance costs, while critics have characterized the plan as effectively shifting hurricane risk onto the state.
Jolly <a href="https://www.wftv.com/news/local/ex-republican-congressman-announces-run-florida-governor-democrat/HDASOCL7DBA2BD3XRURNFIUMI4/">has also said</a> he supports in-state tuition for illegal immigrant students, a position he defended after Florida repealed its previous policy allowing undocumented students to receive the benefit. That would represent a different approach from the one pursued by Florida Republicans in recent years, who have backed tighter restrictions on undocumented immigrants and greater cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Jolly has said he would not require Florida law enforcement agencies to participate in federal immigration-enforcement agreements.
On abortion, Jolly has said his position changed from the one he held as a Republican and that abortion rights should be protected by law. <a href="https://davidjolly.com/issues/reproductive-freedom/">His campaign says</a> he would seek legislation protecting abortion access. 
The similarities extend into healthcare and the role of government in the private economy. Harris’s 2020 presidential campaign centered on “Medicare for All.” In 2019, she co-sponsored Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) Medicare for All legislation, which would have established a national health insurance program. During her presidential campaign, Harris also <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/kamala-harris-wants-to-eliminate-all-private-health-insurance">said</a>, “Let’s eliminate all of that” when discussing the role of private insurance in healthcare. Jolly has similarly <a href="https://x.com/ByronWarRoom/status/2101715498991808611?s=20">argued</a> that government needs to step in when private markets cannot provide affordable coverage.
Jolly has also embraced positions on religious and transgender issues that place him on the other side of several policies adopted by Floridians. Jolly previously <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2026/07/27/democrat-gubernatorial-hopeful-david-jolly-jesus-would-be-proud-of-bravery-of-the-transgender-community/">said,</a> “Jesus is a loving God who would support the trans community and be proud of their bravery and the struggle that they have gone through for recognition and equity.”
The political overlap is clearer on DEI. Jolly has repeatedly defended diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and has argued that Democrats should not retreat from the issue. He has <a href="https://floridianpress.com/2026/08/byron-donalds-shares-ad-slamming-jollys-far-left-positions-in-governors-race/">said</a> that Florida should “return to a state university system that believes in diversity and equity and inclusion,” and he has <a href="https://floridaphoenix.com/2026/05/20/david-jolly-proposes-an-office-of-civil-rights-in-the-governors-office-if-elected/">proposed</a> creating an Office of Civil Rights within the governor&#8217;s office to investigate disparities involving voting rights, healthcare, and education.
That would mark a significant shift from the direction Florida has taken recently. Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, who is term-limited and will leave office in January, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/05/15/desantis-enacts-floridas-dei-ban-00096934">signed legislation</a> in 2023 barring public universities from using state or federal funds for DEI programs, and in April 2026 <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/florida-governor-ron-desantis-signs-bill-prohibiting-dei-local-governments-2026-04-23/">signed legislation</a> aimed at eliminating DEI programs at the local-government level. 
Jolly&#8217;s relationship with the Democratic Party&#8217;s left flank is also visible in his treatment of Angie Nixon, the Democratic Socialists of America member who won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. Jolly <a href="https://www.wusf.org/politics-issues/2026-08-21/florida-republicans-seize-angie-nixons-win-election-messaging?_gl=1*10pn03z*_ga*MTY1NjA4NjEzNS4xNzg3MzIwNzA2*_ga_Q6EH4FZY1W*czE3OTAyODkwMjYkbzMkZzEkdDE3OTAyODkxMzgkajM2JGwwJGgw">has rejected socialism</a> and said he is a capitalist, but he has also campaigned alongside Nixon and called her “a fighter.” He has said they have different approaches while emphasizing areas where they agree—typically socialist issues—including housing, healthcare, and the role government can play when the private sector fails to provide.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is back on the campaign trail, and during her first major campaign stop of this election cycle, even the candidate she came to support seemed to struggle to sit through her latest excursion into political word salad.
Harris joined Democratic Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed in Detroit on Tuesday for a roundtable focused on black maternal health and healthcare costs. But as Harris launched into an extended explanation of how diversity, equity, and inclusion are intrinsically connected to maternal care, El-Sayed could be seen sitting beside her looking increasingly uncomfortable and disengaged.
“An attack on DEI, to recognize diversity, equity and inclusion, is an attack by definition on maternal care, including the need to protect black women in connection with their pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care,” Harris said.
As Harris continued, El-Sayed appeared to stare off into the distance, shifting in his chair and displaying the sort of facial expressions that suggested he was waiting for the monologue to end. The moment is particularly ironic because El-Sayed was not some reluctant participant dragged into an awkward appearance with Harris. He invited her.
The former vice president has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrats-avoid-kamala-like-the-plague-as-she-tries-to-flex-midterm-muscle">largely absent from the campaign trail</a> since leaving office, while Democrats have debated whether she could run for president again in 2028. Her appearance with El-Sayed was one of her first campaign stops of the midterm cycle. She is also expected to campaign with Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) next month.
For El-Sayed, Harris brings considerable name recognition and a connection to traditional Democratic constituencies, particularly black voters. A recent <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/09/17/michigan-senate-race-poll-finds-abdul-el-sayed-has-narrow-edge-over-mike-rogers/">Washington Post-Schar School pol</a>l found that 83% of likely black Michigan voters wanted Democrats to control the Senate, but only 67% supported El-Sayed. His primary opponent, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), had performed substantially better with black voters during the primary. So Harris came to Detroit to make the case that El-Sayed would be a champion for the issues she has spent years emphasizing.
El-Sayed has built his campaign around far-left healthcare policies, including Medicare-for-all, and has sought to unite different factions of Michigan Democrats after a divisive primary. The <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/09/22/harris-el-sayed-joint-campaign-appearance-carries-political-risk-reward/?utm_campaign=wp_main&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social">Washington Post</a> described Tuesday’s event as an opportunity for both politicians to broaden their respective coalitions: Harris could reconnect with left-wing voters, while El-Sayed could benefit from her support among more traditional Democratic constituencies.
El-Sayed himself embraced the partnership. “We’ve got to bring as many folks in as we possibly can to take on the challenges that we face,” he said before the event. “Even where there have been disagreements in the past, the things that unite us as Democrats are so much bigger.”
Harris likewise made clear that she was there specifically to boost his campaign. “I’m here to support Dr. El-Sayed, because, on this subject, I know he will be a champion,” Harris said. “And I have a right to say that.” Whatever the political calculations behind the reunion, the cameras captured a rather different dynamic.

Joy Behar has figured out why the United States hasn&#8217;t elected a female president: America won&#8217;t.
“I think this country will vote for an obese, Jewish, Black, homosexual before a woman,” Behar said this week on “The View.”
It&#8217;s a sweeping explanation for a complicated political reality. Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump. Kamala Harris lost to Donald Trump. Therefore, the country won&#8217;t elect a woman. As a psychotherapist, I&#8217;m interested in why that explanation is so appealing.
When something painful happens, people naturally search for an explanation that makes sense. But we&#8217;re especially drawn to explanations that allow the rest of our worldview to remain intact. They may contain some truth while also protecting us from having to consider possibilities we&#8217;d rather not confront. Blaming sexism for Harris&#8217; defeat offers exactly that protection.
If Harris lost primarily because she is a woman, Democrats don&#8217;t have to spend as much time asking whether voters disliked her policies, questioned her record, rejected the direction of the party, or simply didn&#8217;t think she was the right person to be president. The candidate doesn&#8217;t have to change. The party doesn&#8217;t have to change. The voters do.
There&#8217;s a psychological payoff to that explanation. Defeat becomes evidence of the voters&#8217; shortcomings rather than an occasion for self-examination.
Sexism exists, and it would be foolish to pretend that no voter was influenced by Harris&#8217; sex. But that is very different from treating sexism as the explanation for her defeat. Once an explanation can absorb every piece of contrary evidence, it stops functioning as an explanation and starts functioning as a defense.
A woman loses? Sexism. She performs poorly with a particular demographic? Sexism. Voters say they preferred the other candidate&#8217;s positions? Perhaps that&#8217;s sexism too, whether they realize it or not. The voter who says sex didn&#8217;t matter can be dismissed as unaware of his own bias. The voter who disliked Harris&#8217; policies can be told that sexism shaped that judgment. At some point, the theory explains so much that it explains very little.
I see versions of this pattern often in my work. The breakup happened because the other person was incapable of intimacy. The promotion went to someone else because the boss was threatened. The friendship ended because the friend was toxic. Sometimes those explanations are true. But sometimes they also prevent the harder question: Is there anything here I don&#8217;t want to see?
Politics makes that question difficult because candidates and parties can become intertwined with personal identity. A political defeat can feel like more than losing an election. It can feel like a rejection of your values and even of people like you. That&#8217;s when explanation can turn into self-protection.
Behar isn&#8217;t alone in being pessimistic about the country&#8217;s willingness to elect a woman. A Pew Research Center survey conducted in July and released this month found that 37% of Americans believe it is “not too” or “not at all” likely that the U.S. will elect a female president in their lifetime, up from 26% in 2023.
But the same survey complicates the idea that Americans simply don&#8217;t want a female president. Two-thirds said either that electing a woman wasn&#8217;t personally important to them or that the president&#8217;s gender didn&#8217;t matter.
Perhaps voters mean that. Hillary Clinton&#8217;s defeat doesn&#8217;t prove that they don&#8217;t. Neither does Kamala Harris&#8217;.
Presidential candidates lose for all sorts of reasons: their policies, their record, their message, their personality, the political environment, and the strength of their opponent. Determining how much each factor contributed requires evidence. Two women losing presidential elections to the same man doesn&#8217;t, by itself, tell us how much sexism contributed to either result.
There&#8217;s also something diminishing about explaining a female candidate through her sex. It risks turning her from a political actor who made choices, took positions, and ran a campaign into the passive victim of forces beyond her control. It also makes it harder to learn anything from losing.
One of the basic goals of good therapy is to help people tolerate explanations they may not particularly like. Maybe the breakup wasn&#8217;t entirely the other person&#8217;s fault. Maybe the boss isn&#8217;t simply jealous. Maybe the criticism contains something worth hearing. That doesn&#8217;t mean reflexively blaming yourself. It means resisting the temptation to choose the explanation that asks the least of you.
Politics could use some of the same discipline. After an election, there is an important difference between asking, “What&#8217;s wrong with the people who didn&#8217;t vote for us?” and asking, “Why didn&#8217;t they vote for us?” The first starts with a judgment about the voter. The second starts with a question.
Sexism should be confronted when there&#8217;s evidence of sexism. But it shouldn&#8217;t become an explanation so broad that it shields candidates and political parties from asking harder questions about themselves. Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris became the first two women to head a major-party presidential ticket. Both lost to Donald Trump. Why they lost is a question worth examining. Declaring that their sex explains the outcome doesn&#8217;t answer it. It may simply make the answer less uncomfortable.

Blaming Sexism For Kamala Harris’s Loss Is Too Easy

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is trying to keep her political brand strong ahead of the 2026 midterms, but a growing number of Democratic candidates are making clear they would rather campaign without her.
Harris has attempted to step up her involvement in competitive races as she considers another presidential run in 2028. But Democrats running in some of the very states where the party is trying to expand have publicly rejected or distanced themselves from her.
The list includes Democratic candidates in Iowa, Alaska, and Kansas, as well as in states Harris&#8217;s own team has flagged as targets for her help.
In Iowa, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rob Sand told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2026/08/26/iowa-governor-rob-sand-state-fair-01049432">Politico</a> he did not want Harris campaigning for him and said, “Let’s move on. We need some new leadership.” Senate nominee Josh Turek was even more succinct when asked whether he wanted Harris to campaign for him.
“No,” Turek <a href="https://www.c-span.org/program/campaign-2026/iowa-us-senate-candidate-josh-turek-d-ia-speaks-to-reporters-in-cedar-rapids/684486">said</a> before laughing.
In Kansas, Democratic Senate nominee Adam Hamilton told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/09/03/kamala-harris-midterms-democrats-01063010">Politico</a> that his campaign is focused on appealing to Republicans and running a Kansas-centered campaign. He said Republican voters in the state may have a different worldview from Harris. “Having somebody from California come in and try to tell Kansans who they should vote for is a pretty bad idea,” Hamilton said.
Alaska Democrat Mary Peltola also pushed back after Harris’s political operation sent a fundraising appeal on her behalf. Peltola’s campaign <a href="https://www.alaskasnewssource.com/2026/08/14/peltola-pushes-back-against-kamala-harris-support-saying-she-isnt-looking-an-endorsement-former-vice-president/">said</a> she “isn&#8217;t seeking endorsements from anyone from the Lower 48” and emphasized her focus on Alaska.
The distancing is not limited to states where Democrats are trying to win traditionally Republican territory.
According to The <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/09/22/us/politics/kamala-harris-el-sayed-michigan-midterms.html">New York Times</a>, Harris aides circulated a donor document identifying Democratic candidates in states including Texas and Arizona as potential beneficiaries of her midterm travel and fundraising efforts. But aides to Texas Senate nominee James Talarico, Texas gubernatorial nominee Gina Hinojosa, and Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs told the Times that they did not want Harris to campaign with them.
Harris herself has acknowledged the awkward situation. “I support them in doing whatever they need to do to win,” she said in an interview with <a href="https://www.ms.now/news/kamala-harris-midterms-democrats-2028">MS NOW</a> earlier this month when asked about Democrats who had rejected her support. “I look forward to being on the trail and helping folks where I can be helpful.”
Despite the sentiment in most competitive races, it’s not all benchwarming for the former vice president; Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed scheduled a campaign stop with Harris in Detroit on Tuesday. She already joined El-Sayed for a black maternal health roundtable and an NAACP event focused on voter turnout. El-Sayed said Harris understood the tensions surrounding the Biden administration’s approach to the Israel-Hamas war and described her appearance as an opportunity to bring Democrats together.
Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) is also welcoming Harris. His campaign said he was “grateful for Vice President Harris’ help and support,” and Harris is scheduled to campaign with him in Georgia in October as Harris simultaneously weighs another presidential campaign. She <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2028-election/kamala-harris-confirms-might-run-president-2028-rcna273682">said in April</a> that she was “thinking about” a 2028 bid and has since increased her political activity. 
The 2026 campaign trail therefore offers Harris an opportunity to rebuild a national political network — but it is also exposing the limits of where Democratic candidates currently want her involved.

Behind the scenes, several people who worked closely with former Vice President Kamala Harris remain skeptical that she will launch another bid for the White House in 2028.
Although early <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/president/democratic-primary/2028/national">polls</a> show Harris leading the Democratic field for the nomination, a number of her former aides, advisers, surrogates, and donors do not expect her to run again, according to <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/09/20/kamala-harris-ex-aides-2028-campaign">Axios</a>.
The outlet spoke with eight former Harris aides and advisers, including several who held senior positions, about her prospects for another presidential campaign. Only one said she would probably run. Two viewed the decision as a toss-up, and five said she was unlikely to enter the race.
The former aides cited several factors, including Harris keeping a low profile and doing “the bare minimum” to stay relevant in the presidential sweepstakes. Potential presidential contenders have traditionally spent the pre-primary period building support in early-voting states such as New Hampshire and South Carolina and campaigning for their party’s candidates in midterm elections. Since her stinging election loss, Harris has gone on a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamala-turns-on-biden-in-first-excerpt-from-new-memoir-it-was-recklessness">book tour</a> and is expected to <a href="https://abcnews.com/Politics/wireStory/kamala-harris-campaign-michigan-abdul-el-sayed-136505991">campaign</a> with Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan&#8217;s contentious U.S. Senate race.
One former aide told Axios that Harris knows the political challenges she would face in another campaign. The 2028 Democratic primary is expected to be crowded, and Harris would have to convince Democratic voters she could win a general election after losing all seven key battleground states plus the national popular vote to President Donald Trump.
The Harris allies also pointed to fundraising concerns. Some major Democratic donors remain reluctant to support another Harris campaign, while others may be lining up behind other contenders such as Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and California Gov. Gavin Newsom. At a Politico panel earlier this month, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman threw cold water on another Harris campaign. 
“I think it would be a very challenging path for her, and it’s going to be a very noisy field,” Hoffman <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/09/16/linkedin-co-founder-hoffman-queries-harris-2028-prospects-01078970">said</a>.
His negative assessment came days after Newsom <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gavin-newsom-promises-not-to-run-for-president-if-kamala-wants-it?author=Brecca+Stoll&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Gavin+Newsom+Promises+Not+To+Run+For+President+If+Kamala+Wants+It">said</a> he&#8217;d defer to Harris, insisting he would not run if she threw her hat into the ring.
“I wouldn’t run if she ran,” Newsom told CNN’s Jake Tapper in a viral interview recorded while the two were fly-fishing in Montana.
Tapper later <a href="https://keyt.com/politics/cnn-us-politics/2026/09/14/out-of-office-fishing-with-gavin-newsom-as-he-contemplates-2028-presidential-run-2/">wrote</a> that he was “stunned” by Newsom’s answer.
“Why would I?” Newsom continued. “I won&#8217;t waste everyone’s time.”
Newsom argued that a primary contest between the two California Democrats would benefit Republicans and force their overlapping political allies to choose sides.
“First of all, electorally, it’s a gift from God for everybody else,” Newsom said. “They’d enjoy the hell out of it. Mutually assured destruction. It serves no greater good.”

&#8220;The United States must continue to lead the world in developing AI technology even as we seek to impose common-sense safety standards,” Harris <a href="https://x.com/KamalaHarris/status/2099598534831911394">said</a> on Monday. “The president must do his job to protect America’s interests by pursuing a treaty with countries like China to stop dangerous uses of AI, limit the speed of its development, and adopt global standards for testing.” 
Harris entered the escalating debate over frontier AI after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urged the industry to slow the development of the increasingly capable systems. Elon Musk, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and other prominent technology executives subsequently expressed support for Amodei’s proposal. 
China, however, pushed back, calling the warnings “fearmongering.” 
“Fearmongering, confrontation and malicious competition will only disrupt the process of global AI governance and serve no one’s interests,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun reportedly <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/world/china/china-ai-slowdown-trump-amodei-altman-threat-cold-war-rcna597631">said</a> at a news briefing. 
Even if Beijing signed a treaty, whether China would comply with its terms would be another question. China has a history of failing to keep commitments it made to the United States. 
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called China an &#8220;unreliable partner” in April, accusing the country of stockpiling oil during the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran, even as the conflict strained global energy supplies.
 &#8220;They continued buying, and they&#8217;ve been hoarding, and they have cut off exports of many products,&#8221; ‌Bessent ⁠said.
&#8220;China has been an unreliable global partner three times in the past five years; once during COVID, when ​they hoarded healthcare products, second on rare earth,&#8221; he added, citing the oil stockpiling as his third example. 
Bessent was referring to Beijing’s 2025 threat to stop exporting rare earth minerals to the United States during trade negotiations. 
China also fell short of the purchase commitments in its 2020 Phase One trade agreement with the United States. Beijing pledged to buy an additional $200 billion in American goods and services during 2020 and 2021 but ultimately bought none of that additional amount, <a href="https://www.piie.com/blogs/realtime-economics/2022/china-bought-none-extra-200-billion-us-exports-trumps-trade-deal">according</a> to the Peterson Institute for International Economics.  
David Sacks, Trump’s former White House AI and cryptocurrency czar and current co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, argued that Beijing would be unlikely to participate in an international slowdown.
“China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well,” he<a href="https://x.com/DavidSacks/status/2098973625252708460"> wrote</a>.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp similarly argued that competition with China makes a unilateral American pause untenable. 
“If we didn’t have adversaries, I would be very in favor of pausing this technology completely, but we do,” Karp told CNBC. “You can’t pause it because it’s a structural advantage.”
President Donald Trump also argued against slowing AI development when asked about the proposal.
“We’re leading China in AI,” Trump <a href="https://x.com/CBSNews/status/2099148341166657560">said</a>. “We’re the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly, I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI, wins.”

Former Democratic fundraiser Lindy Li says former Vice President Kamala Harris intentionally misled donors in the weeks before she took over the campaign — and the donors knew it.
Li, who switched her party affiliation after Democrats ignored the warning signs that made it clear former President Joe Biden was not capable of serving another term, gave an insider&#8217;s view of what transpired in the days before Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race — and what Harris did to crown herself his de facto successor.
&#8220;It was all charade. She was auditioning for Biden&#8217;s endorsement, and the way that she did it was by imposing a fake rule on her staff to not talk about her ascending to the nomination,&#8221; Li told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ex-dem-insider-accuses-harris-charade-major-donors-days-before-biden-dropped-out">Fox News Digital</a>.
Li worked closely with donors as a top fundraiser for the party, and she said that as the campaign stretched into the summer of 2024 it became painfully clear to those closest to Biden that he would not make it to November. Harris, she said, used that time to position herself favorably with the donors.
&#8220;I was on the call; she would host calls with donors and pretend to support Biden and say there&#8217;s no daylight between Biden and herself. All the while she was auditioning for those very donors,&#8221; Li explained, adding that Harris carried the charade all the way through to the day Biden left the race: &#8220;It was either on July 19th or July 20th. Actually, I think it was July 19, 2024; Kamala Harris held a call saying that there was no way that Biden would drop out and that she would stick with him until the end. And these were some of the biggest donors in the party.&#8221;
&#8220;A lot of us have group chats, and the immediate reaction is what an effing waste of time. What a charade, how fake. Like these are like the wealthiest people in the country saying that,&#8221; Li said of the general reaction to Harris&#8217; comments. &#8220;They were very aware they were being lied to, that Biden was clearly not okay and to be told that he was okay when he was clearly incapacitated. It was insulting.&#8221;
Once Biden dropped out of the race on July 21, Li said that the president had been hesitant to endorse Harris. But because she had done such a thorough job of ingratiating herself with party donors — and she&#8217;d all but told them that she had Biden&#8217;s full confidence — Biden felt like he did not have a choice.
&#8220;She was flattering people left and right. The first 24 hours were a very intensive charm offensive on her part. And that&#8217;s how she was able to consolidate it so quickly. She flattered people up the wazoo. It made it abundantly clear that Biden had endorsed her. And Biden initially — I don&#8217;t know if people know this, but he didn&#8217;t want to endorse her right away. It took him a while,&#8221; Li said.
The former Democratic fundraiser has written a book — &#8220;<a href="https://www.harpercollins.com/products/unburdened-lindy-li?variant=44717895680034">Unburdened</a>&#8221; — detailing the months that led up to the end of Biden&#8217;s campaign and her subsequent exit from the party. It will be available September 22.

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom said he would not run for president in 2028 if former Vice President Kamala Harris enters the race. 
“I wouldn’t run if she ran,” Newsom told CNN&#8217;s Jake Tapper. 
Tapper later <a href="https://keyt.com/politics/cnn-us-politics/2026/09/14/out-of-office-fishing-with-gavin-newsom-as-he-contemplates-2028-presidential-run-2/">wrote</a> that he was &#8220;stunned&#8221; by Newsom&#8217;s answer.
&#8220;Why would I?&#8221; Newsom continued. &#8220;I wouldn’t waste everyone’s time.” 
Newsom said a contest between the two California Democrats would benefit Republicans and force their overlapping allies to pick sides.
“First of all, electorally, it’s a gift from God for everybody else,&#8221; Newsom said. &#8220;They’d enjoy the hell out of it. Mutually assured destruction. It serves no greater good.” 
Tapper raised the counterargument that Harris unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination in 2019 and then lost the 2024 presidential election, while Newsom has never run a national campaign.
&#8220;That would be the case you&#8217;d make,&#8221; Newsom replied. &#8220;Pretty good one, actually. That&#8217;s objectively true.&#8221;
&#8220;But I know what that means,&#8221; he continued. “I know her base of supporters. I know her friends. The Venn diagram on that is just pure crossover…I wouldn’t do that to people.” 
Newsom’s declaration was more definitive than his answer in February, when CNN’s Dana Bash asked what would happen if his and Harris’ political ambitions collided in 2028.
“That’s — you know, fate will determine that,” Newsom shrugged. “And I’ve never gotten in the way of her ambition, ever. I haven’t. And I don’t imagine I would in the future.” 
Newsom did not make the same promise when Tapper raised another possible California contender, Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna.
Newsom <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/amid-presidential-speculation-gavin-newsom-is-fundraising-everywhere-except-california">launched</a> a national fundraising campaign last August that fueled speculation of a 2028 White House run. While the fund was intended to finance California’s redistricting efforts, its ads appeared across the country rather than in California, potentially allowing Newsom to build a national donor list.  
Newsom also launched a podcast titled “This Is Gavin Newsom” last year, further expanding his national profile. 
Last October, Newsom <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2028-election/gavin-newsom-consider-presidential-run-midterms-white-house-campaign-rcna239839">told</a> CBS that he would give a presidential run &#8220;serious thought&#8221; after the midterm elections.
“I think the biggest challenge for anyone who runs for any office is people see right through you,&#8221; Newsom said. &#8220;If you don’t have that ‘why,’ you’re doing it for the wrong reasons.&#8221;
Harris has not decided whether she will seek the presidency again in 2028. In a recent interview, she said she remains focused on the midterms.

Police responded to former Vice President Kamala Harris&#8217; Malibu home late Friday night after a woman trespassed onto the property, left, and then came back a second time, <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/09/12/kamala-harris-home-targeted-in-trespass-incident/">according</a> to TMZ.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff&#8217;s Department <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/kamala-harris/alleged-trespasser-stopped-kamala-harris-malibu-home-rcna597427">told</a> NBC News deputies were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. Friday after Harris&#8217; private security team flagged a &#8220;suspicious person&#8221; on the grounds of the $8.15 million estate. Officials said the unidentified woman had been dropped off nearby by an Uber before approaching the residence and making contact with security personnel, who told her she could not remain on the property. She initially left, but returned a short time later, prompting the call to law enforcement.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with the woman, who was still outside the residence, and advised her to leave. She did so voluntarily, and no arrest or citation was made. The sheriff&#8217;s department said it took a trespassing report and would set up patrols in the area as a precaution. It remains unclear why the woman came to the property or why she returned after being turned away.
Neither Harris nor her husband, Doug Emhoff, was home when the incident occurred. Harris spokesman Eduardo Negrón <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/09/12/kamala-harris-home-targeted-in-trespass-incident/">told</a> TMZ the couple was grateful for the swift response from security and law enforcement, and characterized the woman as having illegally entered the property before being intercepted short of the house itself.
Harris purchased the four-bedroom, six-bathroom Malibu property in January, and it sits on roughly three-quarters of an acre with ocean views, a pool and spa, <a href="https://www.aol.com/news/kamala-harris-8m-gated-malibu-232626768.html">according</a> to the New York Post. She no longer has Secret Service protection; President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/29/politics/kamala-harris-secret-service-canceled-trump-biden">revoked</a> her detail last year, cutting short an extension President Joe Biden had authorized before leaving office. Former vice presidents are ordinarily entitled to six months of Secret Service coverage after leaving office.
The Malibu incident follows a <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/lapd-responds-kamala-harris-california-home-palisades-fire-evacuation-zone-2-men-detained-reports">similar episode</a> in January 2025, when two men were briefly detained near Harris&#8217; former Brentwood home during a curfew tied to the Los Angeles wildfires after an initial report of a possible burglary. Investigators found no evidence of a burglary in that case, and the men were held only for a curfew violation.

Another slate of Democratic candidates running in the midterm elections has rejected former Vice President Kamala Harris&#8217; endorsement, underscoring the toxic brand her failed presidential campaign has left behind in key battleground states.
Iowa Democratic Senate candidate Josh Turek on Wednesday flatly rejected the idea of Harris campaigning for him.
A <a href="https://www.c-span.org/program/campaign-2026/iowa-us-senate-candidate-josh-turek-d-ia-speaks-to-reporters-in-cedar-rapids/684486">reporter pressed</a> the Senate hopeful at a Cedar Rapids event about whether he would welcome the former vice president — and one of the Democratic Party’s top leaders — onto the campaign trail.
“No,” the state representative firmly said. 
Turek, a state representative and two-time Paralympic gold medalist, is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hegseths-iowa-trip-raises-early-questions-about-2028">challenging</a> Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA), the Republican nominee for the open Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Joni Ernst. Polls show a competitive race in a state Trump won by double digits in 2024. 
Another Iowa Democrat, gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand, also rejected the idea of embracing Harris on the stump and even shot down the idea of her running for president again in 2028.
“No thanks. Let’s move on,” Sand told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2026/08/26/iowa-governor-rob-sand-state-fair-01049432">Politico</a>. “We need some new leadership.” He also brushed off the idea of seeking former President Biden’s support. “No. Can he even do that right now?” Sand asked.
Sand, Iowa’s current state auditor and the most recent Democrat elected to statewide office, is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/razor-thin-governor-primary-snaps-trump-endorsement-streak">running against</a> Iowa farmer and businessman Zach Lahn, who narrowly defeated Trump-endorsed Rep. Randy Feenstra to win the Republican nomination for governor in June.
The strategy of sidelining national Democrats is not limited to Iowa, as the Democratic Party’s brand remains deeply unpopular with voters nationwide.
Former Rep. Mary Peltola’s (D-AK) Senate campaign <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dem-senate-hopeful-runs-from-kamala-harris-support">made clear earlier this month</a> that it wants nothing to do with Harris’s message of support.
Harris’s Fight for the People PAC sent an email urging supporters to “stand behind Mary,” The New York Times reported. The PAC called the Alaska contest a “must-win race” for Democrats seeking to retake the Senate, declaring, “If there’s anyone who can flip Alaska and secure the Senate majority for Democrats — it’s Mary.”
The message directed donors to a page asking them to split their contributions between Peltola’s campaign and Harris’s political committee. Peltola’s team quickly pushed back, saying the campaign had not authorized the email and had no knowledge of it before it was sent.
“Mary isn’t seeking endorsements from anyone from the Lower 48 — her focus is and always will be Alaska,” the statement read, citing support she has received from several Alaska labor groups.
Peltola, a former congresswoman, is running against incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK). Nick Puglia, spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/razor-thin-governor-primary-snaps-trump-endorsement-streak">said</a> Peltola had worked “hand in hand with Kamala Harris to put Alaska last, so it’s no surprise that Harris is backing Peltola.”

Parton was intentional about staying out of politics, instead focusing on bringing people together and helping as many people as she could.

It’s no secret that Meghan Markle is an incorrigible social climber, but the scale of her ambition is just now coming to light. According to a new <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/20/us-news/true-scale-of-meghan-and-harrys-us-political-plans-revealed-from-request-for-biden-oval-office-meeting-to-eyeing-senate-seat/">report</a> from The New York Post, Markle had her sights set on the United States Senate.
This would be amusing enough if Markle were nothing but a D-list actress, which was true for years before she sank her claws into the rebellious British royal Prince Harry. Now that they’re married, her rumored political ambitions are even more ridiculous.
Markle was eyeing the U.S. Senate seat vacated by former Vice President Kamala Harris, the Post reported, citing a source. The former British working royal reportedly had a sit-down with California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom just weeks before the 2020 presidential election because she “wanted to be considered to be appointed,” a source told the outlet.
Newsom’s office has a record of the meeting, which at the time was pitched as a “welcome to California” chat. It remains unclear whether Markle was ever seriously considered.
A Sussex source denied the allegation that Markle was gunning for Harris’ vacant seat. Reps for The Duchess of Sussex did not immediately respond to The Daily Wire’s request for comment.
The royal couple has been associated with politicians before. In 2021, they allegedly requested a meeting with then-President Joe Biden and wanted to stay at Blair House, which is usually reserved for diplomatic leaders, the Post reported. That request was denied. 
In 2025, Markle <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSWpaFRvX6k&amp;t=10s">responded</a> to a question on her political ambitions, denying that she was interested in running for office. When pressed if she would really “never” run, the Duchess of Sussex replied, “I mean you could say, never say never &#8230;” then quickly repeated, “No. Never.” 
British royals traditionally don’t comment on American politics or endorse candidates, which is why so many followers were surprised when Prince Harry and Markle made statements that sounded like support for the Biden-Harris ticket in September 2020.

Prince Harry chimed in, saying, “This election, I’m not going to be able to vote here in the U.S. But many of you may not know that I haven’t been able to vote in the U.K. my entire life. As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity.”
It was just announced that the royal couple is moving back to the United Kingdom after living stateside for the past six years. This comes after several failed lifestyle and entertainment ventures, including an abandoned podcast and a nine-figure Netflix deal that was later downgraded to a less lucrative arrangement due to an extreme lack of interest.
