Agents Mulder and Scully may not have yet uncovered the secrets of alien life on Earth, but they have discovered how to alienate a solid chunk of their fan base.
In a Tweet Tuesday morning, David Duchovny, who plays Mulder, and his co-star Gillian Anderson, declared their solidarity with kneeling NFL players by kneeling on the set of the X-Files reboot.

It’s not exactly clear what they were kneeling in support of or opposition to, or whether the photo was just a sort of a general anti-Trump gesture. Celebrities and even members of Congress have been taking the knee over the least several days, ostensibly in solidarity with protesting NFL players who knelt during the national anthem Sunday. But it’s not clear what the ongoing protest achieves, exactly — and few celebrities seem to be saying much besides that they stand with — or, rather, kneel with — football players.
The Duchovny Tweet does serve as an announcement of sorts, however, that the X-Files is back to filming its second comeback season, so at least fans have that to look forward to.
