On Monday night, appearing on Fox News with host Sean Hannity, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) targeted President Joe Biden over the fistful of verbal gaffes he had committed in recent days, as Cruz summed up by finally characterizing Biden as “Mr. Magoo as president, where every time he explains one thing it gets worse and worse and worse.”

Cruz started by noting of Russian President Vladimir Putin, “We ought to be going after Putin’s revenue. And that means oil and gas; that means American energy production. And Biden is so much in hock to the Green New deal radicals that he’s unwilling to step up American energy production.”

He then turned to Biden, saying, “You know, I gotta say, Sean, watching the cascade of blunders from Biden, that’s five gaffes in 48 hours. I don’t recall ever seeing an American president mess things up so badly, from calling for regime change, then calling that back; from suggesting America would launch chemical weapons to walking that back; from suggesting the 82nd Airborne would be sent to Ukraine to calling that back.”

“He also said sanctions never work despite their talking point having been for months that the threat of sanctions is precisely why he waived sanctions on Nordstream 2,” Cruz continued, “and I gotta say there’s a fifth gaffe in the segment you played right at the beginning of the show: When Biden was trying to explain all of this, he said, ‘Well, the explanation is that Americans were training Ukrainian troops in Poland.’”

“What?” Cruz burst out. “ If that’s the case — I don’t know about it — but if that’s the case, that is surely classified and it may be that he’s explaining classified secrets on national television. Sean, this is like Mr. Magoo as president, where every time he explains one thing it gets worse and worse and worse, and we’ve got nuclear weapons pointed at each other. It is incredibly dangerous, this kind of presidential weakness.”

Last Thursday, asked if the U.S. would answer with chemical weapons if Russia used them in Ukraine, Biden said such an act by Russia would “trigger a response in kind.”  National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan clarified that by “in kind” Biden meant “we’ll respond accordingly” and that Russia would pay a “severe price,” Fox News noted.

On Friday, speaking to U.S. troops in Poland, Biden told the 82nd Airborne Division, “And you’re going to see when you’re there. And some of you have been there. You’re going to see — you’re going to see women, young people standing — standing… in front of a damn tank, just saying, ‘I’m not leaving. I’m holding my ground.’”

After, a White House spokesperson tried to clarify Biden’s remarks, saying, “The President has been clear we are not sending U.S. troops to Ukraine and there is no change in that position.”

On Saturday, speaking in Warsaw, Poland, Biden stated, “A dictator intent on rebuilding an empire will never erase a people’s love for liberty. Brutality will never grind down the will to be free. Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia. For free people refuse to live in a world of hopelessness and darkness. We will have a different future, a brighter future, rooted in democracy and principle, hope and light, of decency and dignity and freedom and possibilities. For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power.”

Soon after, a White House official released a statement saying “The President’s point was Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region. He was not discussing Putin’s power in Russia, or regime change.”
