Comedian Dana Carvey, a master impressionist who starred on “Saturday Night Live” and in the “Wayne’s World” movies, has President Joe Biden down pat.
But Carvey has picked one small part of the president to mimic. “I do him at the town hall, when he’s like the gentle father to the country and he looks like the alien who came off the space ship in ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind,'” Carvey explained to “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert.
Carvey then broke into his Biden impression.
“Folks, c’mon. Folks, let’s get real here. I’m not kidding around here. You know, we’ve got to do the thing,” Carvey said. “We did with Barack, we did the deal. And, you know, my dad, you know, lost his job in Scranton. No joke. No joke, I’m not being a wise guy here. I said, ‘Pops, why did you lose it?’ He said, ‘Joe, I did.’ My mom said, ‘That’s the cookie that crumbles. It does.'”
He continued: “Here’s the deal. Here’s the deal. Number one, the thing that they said. Come on. Number two, the two part. Folks. Three. Come on, I’m not kidding around. No rocket science. Come on now. Here’s the deal.”
Apparently referring to former President Donald Trump, Carvey’s Biden then says: “He told, he knew, he knew it floated. He told Bob Woodward — Jo- Joanne Woodward — he told Bob Redford, excuse me. You know. But folks, I care, I care a lot. People are suffering. And I do. And my mother said, you know, that’s the way the cookie is.”
Then talking about COVID-19, Carvey’s Biden said: “Those places, and you know, we can do this. Shots. We can in fact, and better than we did before.”
Explaining his take on Biden, Carvey, who used to do a spot-on impression of the late President George H.W. Bush on “SNL,” told Colbert “I do this sincere guy.”
“There’s a lot there if, you know, if you just don’t worry about the fact that he’s 78, he gets a little confused sometimes. It doesn’t mean you’re attacking him personally or, you know, but you have to acknowledge that, you know, he’s just—” Carvey said, breaking into Biden again.
“We’re gonna’ try things, you know, and then, you know, come on. Here’s a deal. Let me, let me just, I’m not kidding around. No joke folks. You know, my dad lost his job in Scranton. I lost my dog. I’m not, I’m not, I’m not being a wise guy.”
Carvey explained more of his impression of Biden. “And he always does the list,” he said, turning back into Biden. “Number one, the one part. Number two, what they said. Number three, you get the drill. Come on, you dog-faced pony soldier.”
“That’s what I’m gathering from it visually. But yeah, I mean, I don’t know, it’s a character now,” Carvey said.
