Englishman Eddie Hall, a 28 year-old professional strongman, just made it into the history books after deadlifting over a half-ton of weight off the ground, but it could’ve cost him his life.
In the clip (above), the 6’3″, 400-lb athlete, nicknamed “The Beast,” achieved his incredible goal at the Leeds Arena over the weekend and said, “It nearly killed me.” After lifting the weight in front of the packed and rowdy crowd, Hall immediately collapsed to the floor after blood vessels burst in his head.
“That nearly killed me,” Hall told the Yorkshire Evening Post afterwards. “The pressure on my body was surreal. I passed out after. I had nose bleeds. It’s not healthy doing something like that.
“But I’ve done it. I’m sure it will be in the history books for a very long time.”
“I don’t want to do it again but if it comes to the point where somebody breaks it, hell…I may just do,” Hall added.
“It’s that great feeling, Like the first man on the moon, the first man to run a mile in under four minutes. And now I’m the first to deadlift half a ton. It’s history and I’m very proud to be a part of it.”
Hall, a family man with two children, Layla, eight, and Maximum, four, is already working towards his next goal, winning the World’s Strongest Man competition, after coming in fourth in last year’s event — the U.S.’s Brian Shaw bringing home the title.
“The World’s Strongest Man title is my dream. And I will keep pushing the limits until that happens. It’s going to happen,” said Hall.
