Meghan Markle’s appearance on the cover of Variety will be delayed due to Queen Elizabeth II’s death last week.

The publication announced that the Duchess of Sussex’s debut on the cover of their “Power of Women” issue will be delayed because of the royal family’s loss.

“Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, was chosen as one of this year’s stellar honorees,” an update from the publication’s official Twitter account said. “The Duchess’ cover will be postponed to a later date, out of respect for the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II.”

The publication also noted how Markle will not attend the Power of Women gala in Los Angeles on Sept. 28, which will take place nine days after the queen’s funeral. Other Power of Women honorees include Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Ava DuVernay, Malala, and Elizabeth Olsen.

Markle also delayed releasing a new episode of her Spotify podcast “Archetypes” after Queen Elizabeth died. The last episode, featuring an interview with Mindy Kaling, aired two days before the monarch’s passing. She also canceled a visit to the U.N. and a late night appearance with Jimmy Fallon, Fox News reported.

Prince Harry and Markle reunited with Prince William and Kate Middleton in London to attend events for the monarch’s death, though their presence was not always well-received. There was been strain on the couple’s relationship with the royals since they left their roles as senior working royals in 2020. They’ve been living in California since then.

A video of mourners ignoring Markle and refusing to shake her hand went viral. She and Prince Harry, who allegedly has a tell-all memoir scheduled to be released this year, have become a source of controversy both in the United Kingdom and abroad.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been candid about their issues with the royal family over the years, including accusing them of racism.

British broadcaster Piers Morgan criticized the couple over their tell-all interview with Oprah, which is thought to have damaged their relationship with the family.

“Meghan & Harry’s nauseating two-hour Oprah whine-athon was a disgraceful diatribe of cynical race-baiting propaganda designed to damage the Queen as her husband lies in hospital — and destroy the Monarchy,” Morgan tweeted of the event.
