The annual festival stems from a mysterious crash northwest of Roswell in 1947. The Army initially said it was a UFO crash, but quickly backed off that report. The Pentagon has since said it was a top-secret balloon crash, but UFO enthusiasts don''t believe that story, which gives rise to what has become known as the "Roswell Incident". A forthcoming report on the Defense Department’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program and its investigations into “unidentified aerial phenomenon” is expected to be “difficult to explain” according to officials close to the matter, and it will contain information about UFO sightings “all over the world,” not just those reported by the American military.

The report is expected shortly, as the end of a 180-day countdown, which began when President Donald Trump signed a $2.3 trillion coronavirus relief bill into law in December, is nearing. CNN reported, at the time, that a “stipulation” that the director of National Intelligence and the secretary of defense had six months to produce information about the Threat Identification Program, “was tucked into the ‘committee comment’ section of the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021, which was contained in the massive spending bill.”

Pentagon sources told the Daily Wire the report will likely be released June 1.

As The Daily Wire reported over the weekend, Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe told CBS’s 60 Minutes that “there are a lot more sightings than have been made public.” Others who spoke to “60 Minutes” noted that and that the U.S. military encounters “unidentified aerial phenomena” (UAP) nearly “every day” and that some of the most prominent cases involve technology that is “far beyond anything that we, that we’re capable of.”

UAPs, experts were quick to note, are not necessarily alien in nature. In many cases, Luis Elizondo, who commanded the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program at the Pentagon before it shuttered in the mid-2010s, told the network that “[i]n some cases there are simple explanations for what people are witnessing. But there are some that, that are not. We’re not just simply jumping to a conclusion that’s saying, ‘Oh, that’s a UAP out there.’ We’re going through our due diligence.”

Former National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, though, that the report will focus on more than just American military encounters with unidentified flying objects.

“There have been sightings all over the world,” Ratcliffe said. “And when we talk about sightings, the other thing I will tell you, it’s not just a pilot or just a satellite or some intelligence collection. Usually, we have multiple sensors that are picking up these things.”

Ratcliffe also said that some of the information contained in the forthcoming report may be difficult to explain.

“There are instances where we don’t have good explanations for some of the things that we’ve seen, and when that information becomes declassified, I’ll be able to talk a little bit more about that,” Ratcliffe said.

Some of the stranger videos, likely addressed in the Pentagon’s forthcoming report, have already leaked including one, The Daily Wire reported Wednesday, that ostensibly shows an encounter in the skies over California.

“A recently leaked video captured by the U.S. Navy shows an unidentified flying object off the coast of San Diego moving across the sky before suddenly disappearing into the water,” reported The Hill. “The video obtained by documentary filmmaker Jeremy Corbell was filmed in the Combat Information Center of the combat ship the USS Omaha on July 15, 2019.”

Experts do contend that, rather than producing evidence of extraterrestrial visits, the report could demonstrate that the United States is at a surveillance and information-collecting disadvantage compared to an unknown enemy.

“Well, we clearly are vulnerable. And this has been going on for too long. Finally, our Congress is learning of this situation. They’re beginning to react. So we’ve got a lot of catch-up here. But it is – it is very concerning. It’s not an imminent crisis or imminent threat. There’s been no hostility. But there’s a lot of activity. And it’s increasingly bold,” Chris Mellon, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence told The Hill. “In some instances, recently, we’ve had these things swarming around war ships off the coast of California, swarming around Strategic Missile Defense bases, in Guam, and other things. So, with all the tensions in the world, and China, and the rest, with the attack on the Saudi oil facilities, by drones, and so forth, it’s something we need to take seriously.”
