Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D) took some heat over the weekend after appearing without a mask at a public school where the students are still required to mask up on a daily basis.
As Fox News reported:
Abrams visited Glennwood Elementary School outside of Atlanta this past week to kick off the third annual African American read-in, where she met with young students and teachers. The principal, Dr. Holly Brookins, took to Twitter after the visit to post four pictures on her Twitter account of Abrams’ visit, which included three pictures of Abrams without a mask, despite the Decatur City Commission reinstating a mandatory masking ordinance last month.
The school’s principal — Dr. Holly Brookins — tweeted a photo of Abrams with a classroom full of masked students, and Abrams shared the tweet with her own comments.
“Extraordinary way to kick off the 3rd Annual African-American Read-In at Glennwood and Black History Month. Thrilled to host @StaceyAbrams author of Stacey’s Extraordinary Words! Huge thanks to special guest and my mentor @CarstaphenMJ for an amazing intro!” Brookins tweeted.
Abrams added, “Spending time with Glennwood’s amazing students, faculty and staff ranks as spectacular, delightful and outstanding. Thank you for having me.”
These tweets — with a photo showing Stacey Abrams maskless surrounded by masked children & showing Abrams promoting it from her own account — have now both been removed. Radio host Clay Travis was among those criticizing Abrams, tweeting, “The number of left wing politicians who post photos posing without masks while all the kids around them are wearing masks is stunning. Here is Stacey Abrams doing it. This is child abuse.”

“Yet another picture of an unmasked Democrat surrounded by masked children. This is at a Decatur, Georgia elementary school, where they have a district-wide mask mandate,” @KelleyKGA tweeted.
Rich Lowry added, “Confirmation, if any were needed, that Stacey Abrams is a member of the Democratic elite in good standing—mask hypocrisy is practically a status symbol now.”

Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp noted that Abrams wanted to implement statewide mask mandates for everyone, saying, “Stacey Abrams wants state government mask mandates for Georgians and their children. But it looks like they wouldn’t apply when she’s attending a photo op.”

Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald — and a number of others — noted that Abrams was just the latest in a long line of prominent Democrats who had been caught maskless recently, adding a crack about Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and his claim that he had “held his breath” when posing for maskless photos at an NFL championship game.
“Meanwhile: since @staceyabrams is a very sophisticated and important liberal, I’m sure there’s something in TheScience™ that justifies her being maskless indoors, surrounded by young kids forced to wear masks all day. Maybe she’s holding he breath?” he tweeted.
“Why is the one person who’s truly at risk of COVID-19 infection the only one not wearing a mask? Trust the science!!!” Donald Trump Jr. added, and Piers Morgan agreed: “He’s got a point… What the hell was Stacey Abrams thinking??”
Jeryl Bier commented on the fact that both the school principal and Abrams deleted the tweet — and that Abrams had not offered an explanation for the deleted tweet: “Policians deleting embarrassing tweets and pretending they never happened is both sad and hilarious. Abrams has no tweet acknowledging or explaining her deleted one.”
