The uncle of Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) staffer who was attacked in Washington, D.C., over the weekend reportedly said his nephew faces the possibility of seizures for the next month due to a knife wound to the head.

Tim Todd shared the update about his nephew, Phillip Todd, in a post to Facebook, according to Fox News.

“Doctors are concerned about possible seizures for the next month resulting from the deep knife wound to the head,” Todd wrote about his nephew. “Phillip is resting well.”

He also asked people to “continue to pray” for his nephew, whom court documents said suffered injuries to his head, ear, torso, and lungs that required surgery.

Paul announced on Monday that a member of his staff was “brutally attacked in broad daylight” in D.C., but did not identify the employee. The senator also said a suspect had been arrested.

“I ask you to join Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions,” Paul added, referring to his wife. “We are relieved to hear the suspect has been arrested. At this time we would ask for privacy so everyone can focus on healing and recovery.”

Phillip Todd is an economist on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for the Republicans, per the LegiStorm website. Paul is the ranking member of the panel.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said Todd was stabbed multiple times on H Street NE on Saturday and treated at a hospital for life-threatening injuries. An affidavit suggests the attack came at random, as Todd told a detective he did not know the suspect nor did the suspect demand anything of him before the attack.

A police news release on Monday said the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Glynn Neal of Southeast D.C., was arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill using a knife. A preliminary hearing is now scheduled for April 6.

Court records indicate that Neal was released from federal prison roughly 24 hours before the attack, according to NBC Washington. An MPD spokesperson declined to confirm to the Daily Wire whether Neal had in fact just been released from federal custody.

The Washington Examiner reported in 2011 that someone with the same name who was a 30-year-old pimp at the time was sentenced to more than a decade behind bars for what prosecutors said was forcing women into prostitution and threatening to kill them.

Crime in the nation’s capital has received increased attention in recent weeks in part because President Joe Biden recently signed a measure that blocked changes to the D.C. criminal code that critics regarded as being too soft on crime.

A House Democrat, Angie Craig of Minnesota, made headlines last month after she was violently assaulted in an elevator at her apartment building in D.C. Police arrested a homeless man, 26-year-old Kendrick Hamlin, in connection to that attack.
