Twitter Allows Parody Accounts For Trump But Not Beto

This week, Twitter, which tolerates all sorts of parody accounts that mock President Trump, reportedly permanently suspended one lone account that brilliantly parodied former Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s series of blogs that detail his personal journeys.

The Twitter account, apparently run by a woman who has a gift for imitating O’Rourke’s navel-gazing as displayed on Instagram, was notified by Twitter that it had been permanently suspended with a note reading, “Hello. It has come to our attention that your Twitter account is in violation of the Twitter Rules, specifically the policy on impersonation. Impersonation is pretending to be another entity in order to deceive, and is strictly prohibited. The account has been suspended and will not be restored.”

As the Twitter account named Comfortably Smug reported, the woman who ran the Beto’sBlog account told him, “They let death threats stay up from blue check marks and suspend me permanently for obvious parody about a candidate.”

Interestingly, you can be a Hollywood producer and fantasize about throwing the Covington Catholic High School kids into a woodchipper and still not even be temporarily suspended by Twitter.

Or you can fantasize about locking those same kids into their school and then burning it to the ground and still not be permanently suspended by Twitter:

Or you can fantasize about killing a conservative pundit and still not be permanently suspended from Twitter.

Or you can call Jews “termites,” and still not be suspended from Twitter despite the fact that only three weeks before the “termites” remark Twitter announced that “non-targeted dehumanizing speech” would be banned from the platform — and explained that an example of such speech would be, “Statements along the lines of ‘All members of protected group X are dogs or rats or whatever.’”

But there’s a whole list of Twitter accounts parodying President Trump:

Here’s an example from The Musings Of A Failed Senatorial Candidate (aka O’Rourke’s blog):

A lot of big trucks rolling down Pancake Blvd and there aren’t any sidewalks. Gloomy early morning sky in Liberal Kansas. Snow melt on the side of the road where I’m running. I find a vacant lot to cut through to another street, also busy and without sidewalks. I finally get to a smaller road that goes past a mobile home park, then a small subdivision, and out into corn fields to my right and empty fields to my left …

Have been stuck lately. In and out of a funk. My last day of work was January 2nd. It’s been more than twenty years since I was last not working. Maybe if I get moving, on the road, meet people, learn about what’s going on where they live, have some adventure, go where I don’t know and I’m not known, it’ll clear my head, reset, I’ll think new thoughts, break out of the loops I’ve been stuck in.

Apparently it is a grievous sin on Twitter to gently parody the anointed candidate of the Left and is grounds for a permanent suspension while if you mock President Trump or threaten conservative figures, that’s just fine.
