Former President Donald Trump won the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire on Tuesday night, beating his former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.
The race was called as Trump leads Haley 54.4% to 43.3% with 95% of the votes counted, according to The New York Times.
Leading up to the primary, polls briefly showed that Haley was within striking distance of the former president in the state. The trajectory of the New Hampshire primary changed after Trump captured a strong win in the Iowa Caucuses last week and Haley came in third place behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
The results from Iowa, combined with DeSantis suspending his campaign this week and endorsing the former president, further extended the former president’s lead in the state.
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, who endorsed Haley, lowered the expectations for her heading into the week after previously declaring that Haley would win in a “landslide.”
CNN said that the exit polling it conducted in New Hampshire found that a staggering 70% of the people who voted for Haley were not registered Republicans.

The remaining primary slate will heavily favor Trump over Haley, who relied on independents, moderates, and secular voters to come in second place in New Hampshire.
The next contest is in Nevada, where Haley opted to not participate in the caucus and instead signed up to do the state’s primary where she will win no delegates, according to Politico.
Trump repeatedly slammed Haley on social media as the results rolled in from New Hampshire.
“Haley said she had to WIN in New Hampshire,” Trump wrote. “SHE DIDN’T!!!”
“DELUSIONAL!!!” he continued, later adding: “SHE CAME IN THIRD LAST WEEK!” and “SHE JUST LOST NEVADA, WHICH IS UP NEXT!”
