Trump To Visit Mamdani In Rare Presidential Stop

President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani plan to meet for their third in-person meeting at the mayor’s residence on Monday. 

Presidential visits to Gracie Mansion are rare. John F. Kennedy went in 1962, when Robert F. Wagner Jr. was mayor, and Ronald Reagan followed in 1981. A White House official confirmed to the Daily Wire that a meeting would take place there but declined to share further details. The Mamdani administration hasb said only that “the meeting will focus on issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers.” Trump and Mamdani will meet on Monday before the U.N. General Assembly, which is held in Manhattan. 

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also expected in town — the same leader Mamdani once declared “not welcome in New York City” after his administration examined whether it had the legal authority to execute the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against him and concluded it did not.

Trump had assured Netanyahu on Truth Social that he “will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America.” The next day, Mamdani urged the federal government to join the ICC and execute the warrant.

It will be the latest chapter in an unusually active relationship between a sitting president and a New York City mayor.

Trump met with Eric Adams twice in 2025, once at Mar-a-Lago before taking office and once at the White House, but Monday will be his third meeting with Mamdani in about ten months. Mamdani and Trump discussed housing issues in New York City and the possibility of Trump giving New York City federal money to build new homes. 

Mamdani was reportedly asked about meeting with the President last week. He said, “When it comes to the president, we continue to have a conversation about how best to deliver for this city. That is a conversation that has been done in person, it’s been done over the phone, and it will continue so long as either of us have the ability to deliver for the city.”

In February, Mamdani presented Trump with a mock newspaper cover reading “Trump to City: Let’s Build” — a nod to the New York Daily News’ famous October 30, 1975 headline: “Ford to City: Drop Dead,” published after President Gerald Ford refused to bail out the city during its fiscal crisis. Mamdani called that meeting productive. The two did not take press questions afterward, a change from their first meeting in November, when they welcomed reporterrs into the Oval Office.

“I think you’re going to have, hopefully, a really great mayor,” Trump said then. “The better he does, the happier I am.”

Before that meeting, Trump had called Mamdani a communist, and Mamdani had called the president a fascist. “Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has asked for a meeting,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
