DES MOINES, IOWA - AUGUST 12: Surrounded by campaign staff and members of the U.S. Secret Service, Former U.S. President Donald Trump (C) waves to supporters as he visits the Iowa Pork Producers Tent at the Iowa State Fair on August 12, 2023 in Des Moines, Iowa. Republican and Democratic presidential hopefuls are visiting the fair, a tradition in one of the first states that will test candidates with the 2024 caucuses.

Former President Donald Trump was noncommittal when asked over the weekend if he would comply with a federal judge’s warning to avoid making public statements that could be construed as trying to intimidate witnesses or taint the jury pool, and he signaled that he would not take a plea deal in a separate case if offered one.

Trump was asked by a reporter at the Iowa State Fair about the order from Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is presiding over Special Counsel Jack Smith’s criminal case against Trump for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

“We’ll have to take a look at the order,” Trump said. “The whole thing is a fake. It was put out by Biden. And they put it out because they can’t win an election the fair way.”

“It’s all called election interference,” he said. “Biden put it out because he can’t win the fair way. He’s way down in the polls.”

After the event, Trump went to the airport to go to his golf club in New Jersey.

On the tarmac, Trump answered a reporter who asked, “Is there any chance you take a plea deal in Georgia?”

“We did nothing wrong. We don’t ever take a plea deal,” Trump said. “We don’t take plea deals. It’s a wise guy question. You’re just a wise guy,” said Trump. “We don’t take plea deals because I did nothing wrong. It’s called election interference.”

Trump faces dozens of felonies in two federal cases, a case out of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and he could be indicted in the coming days in a case out of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
