President-elect Donald Trump celebrated FBI Director Christopher Wray announcing on Wednesday that he will be resigning at the end of the Biden administration.

“The resignation of Christopher Wray is a great day for America as it will end the Weaponization of what has become known as the United States Department of Injustice,” Trump said in a post. “I just don’t know what happened to him.”

Wray said during an FBI town hall that he had been pondering his future over the last several weeks after Trump tapped Kash Patel to serve as the new director.

“I’ve decided the right thing for the Bureau is for me to serve until the end of the current Administration in January and then step down,” Wray said. “My goal is to keep the focus on our mission — the indispensable work you’re doing on behalf of the American people every day.”

“In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the Bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work,” he added.

Trump said that his administration and Kash Patel, whom he has nominated to serve as FBI Director, would restore the rule of law for all Americans.

“Kash Patel is the most qualified Nominee to lead the FBI in the Agency’s History, and is committed to helping ensure that Law, Order, and Justice will be brought back to our Country again, and soon,” Trump said. “As everyone knows, I have great respect for the rank-and-file of the FBI, and they have great respect for me.”

“They want to see these changes every bit as much as I do but, more importantly, the American People are demanding a strong, but fair, System of Justice,” he continued. “We want our FBI back, and that will now happen. I look forward to Kash Patel’s confirmation, so that the process of Making the FBI Great Again can begin. Thank you!”

Wray, who was appointed by Trump, was in year seven of an up to 10-year term as the head of the Bureau.

Trump said during an NBC News interview that aired on Sunday that he was not “thrilled with [Wray]” because “he invaded my home” — a reference to the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago in 2023.

“I’m very unhappy with the things he’s done, and crime is at an all-time high,” Trump said. “Migrants are pouring into the country that are from prisons and from mental institutions, as we’ve discussed. I can’t say I’m thrilled.”

“And then when I was shot in the ear, he said, ‘Oh, maybe it was shrapnel,’” Trump continued. “Where’s the shrapnel coming from? Is it coming from — is it coming from heaven? I don’t think so. So we need somebody to straighten — you know, I have a lot of respect for the FBI, but the FBI’s respect has gone way down over the last number of years.”
