The arraignment for Walt Nauta, an aide to former President Donald Trump who was charged alongside his boss in a federal documents case, has been delayed until next month.

Nauta’s attorney, Stanley Woodward, informed U.S. Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres in a Miami courtroom on Tuesday that Nauta failed to show up because his flight from Newark, New Jersey, was canceled due to storms and he was unable to rebook, according to NBC News.

Woodward also said Nauta still does not have an attorney who has been admitted to practice law in the Southern District of Florida, which is required by local rules and prevented him from entering a plea when he appeared with Trump in court earlier this month.

As reported by CNN, Torres rescheduled Nauta’s arraignment for July 6, calling the date “your drop-dead deadline to get somebody on board.” The Associated Press noted that Woodward said his client “takes very seriously the charges that he is facing.”

Nauta, a Navy veteran, was indicted as Trump’s co-defendant in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the former president’s handling of documents after leaving the White House. Nauta is reportedly expected to plead not guilty to charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice, corruptly concealing a document or record, scheming to conceal, and making a false statement.

Trump, who pleaded not guilty to 37 felony counts on June 13, defended Nauta when the charges were revealed.

“I have just learned that the ‘Thugs’ from the Department of Injustice will be Indicting a wonderful man, Walt Nauta, a member of the U.S. Navy, who served proudly with me in the White House, retired as Senior Chief, and then transitioned into private life as a personal aide,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He has done a fantastic job! They are trying to destroy his life, like the lives of so many others, hoping that he will say bad things about ‘Trump.’ He is strong, brave, and a Great Patriot. The FBI and DOJ are CORRUPT!”

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump nominee, has been appointed to preside over the documents case though other judges are handling some aspects of it. Another magistrate judge, Jonathan Goodman, ordered Trump not to discuss the case with Nauta earlier this month.
