President Donald Trump reportedly made a deal with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday that would grant nearly 800,000 illegal alien DACA recipients amnesty — despite saying in 2016 that if he was elected president “there will be no amnesty.”
Speaking to a crowd in Phoenix on August 31, 2016, then-candidate Trump hammered hard against the idea of illegal immigrants receiving amnesty.
Trump stated that providing amnesty to illegal immigrants “does not serve you, the American people.”
“President Obama and Hillary Clinton support sanctuary cities,” Trump said. “And they support unconstitutional executive amnesty.”
Schumer and Pelosi issued the following joint statement late on Wednesday night which was met with anger and frustration from Trump voters:
We had a very productive meeting at the White House with the President. The discussion focused on DACA. We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that’s acceptable to both sides.
We also urged the President to make permanent the cost-sharing reduction payments, and those discussions will continue.
Trump responded:
Now it’s a wait-and-see game to see what deal was really made between Trump and the Democrats.
