Tom Hanks admitted he didn’t “understand” why Disney/Pixar replaced Tim Allen with Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear for the new animated film “Lightyear.”

During the 65-year-old actor’s appearance on CinemaBlend, the “Castaway” star was asked if it was going to be weird being in theaters across from a Buzz Lightyear film, the outlet noted. Hanks is currently in theaters in the “Elvis” movie where he plays Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Hanks said he was looking forward to going “head-to-head” with his former co-star from the “Toy Story” franchise, Allen. In the animated films, Hanks was the voice of the cowboy toy Woody, and his best friend is Buzz Lightyear, a role voiced by the “Home Improvement” star.

“How ’bout that?” Hanks explained. “Why it’s not…actually I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that.”

When pressed by the interviewer about Allen being replaced by the “Avengers: Endgame” star, Hanks said, “Yeah, yeah, I know.”

“But here’s the thing, just as long as people come back to the motion picture theater,” Hanks said. “I want to go back in the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common.”

“That’s what I want to do,” he added. “And going to see a movie with him, I’m looking forward to that.”

Allen recently broke his silence on Evans voicing the iconic spaceman in the origin-based film. He said there’s “no connection” to his famed character in the “Toy Story” franchise, though he wished there was, as The Daily Wire previously reported.

“The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do [with my character],” the “Last Man Standing” star shared. “This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.”

“It’s a wonderful story,” he added of the new movie. “It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, and it’s a little … I don’t know. It just has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection. I wish there was a better connection to this.”

Allen said that any “Toy Story” movie about Buzz must include Hanks’ character. “There’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz without Woody.”
