The Daily Wire Backstage panel addressed the recent Supreme Court decision overturning landmark abortion rulings in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, making it clear that even though it was one of the biggest political wins in our lifetime, the real battle was only beginning.
“Roe is gone. Ben, tell us what we’re supposed to think,” co-CEO Jeremy Boreing kicked off the segment.
Shapiro called the overturning of Roe the biggest political win of our lifetime, adding that some of the credit for the momentous ruling belonged to former President Donald Trump.
“Thank President Donald J. Trump,” Shapiro said, noting that he had initially had very real doubts about Trump. “But the minute he selected Justice Neil Gorsuch, on air I put a MAGA hat on.”
“The battle is taken up right now,” Shapiro continued, arguing that getting the decision-making process sent back to the states was not the end of the fight, but the beginning — and that fight was going to be in the hearts and minds of the people.
He went on to say that the dissent in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization made the battle lines abundantly clear. “For them, abortion is a sacrament,” he said. “A woman cannot be a woman unless she retains the right to kill her preborn child.”
But those on the Left could still get out over their skis if they push too hard on the issue, Shapiro added, noting that Democrats had adopted a position that did not align with the majority of Americans. “They’re sowing the seed of their own destruction.”
“Now is the moment to push full speed ahead,” Michael Knowles agreed.
Matt Walsh pointed out the fact that the post-Roe landscape was revealing the dishonesty of some of the pro-abortion arguments. “I thought they said that abortion was only 3% of what Planned Parenthood does,” he said, asking, “Why are they closing clinics?”
Candace Owens, who joined the panel despite being nine months pregnant — and joked that delivering her baby during the live event would make for good TV — added, “It’s so surreal to hear the argument that they’re making when you’re about to bring a baby to term.”
