Taylor Swift “The Eras Tour” film held the number one spot at the box office for a second weekend out, surging well past the $100 million mark, making history as the first concert film ever to cross that mark domestically.
The 33-year-old pop singer’s movie, featuring nearly three hours worth of songs from her sold-out concerts across the United States, earned $31 million domestically over the weekend, bringing the two-weekend total to $132 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“The Eras Tour” film not only is the first concert film to cross the $100 million mark domestically, but it is also the first independently released film in a decade to make that much, not adjusted for inflation, according to AMC. Swift self-financed the film with $15 million.

The “Blank Space” hitmaker recently took to Instagram to thank fans for making the film a success.
“What a truly mind blowing thing you’ve turned The Eras Tour Concert Film into,” Spears wrote. “I’ve been watching videos of you guys in the theaters dancing and prancing and recreating choreography, creating inside jokes, casting spells, getting engaged, and just generally creating the exact type of joyful chaos we’re known for.”
“One of my favorite things you’ve done was when you supported Cruel Summer SO much, I ended up starting The Eras Tour show with it…Thank you, so much, forever, wow, just thank you!” she added.

Swift’s movie was set to release Friday, October 13, but the pop singer surprised fans days when she announced it was coming out one day earlier. The film’s opening weekend ended up earning $92.8 million at the domestic box office, People magazine noted. “The Eras Tour” film’s opening weekend also beat out Justin Bieber’s 2011 “Never Say Never” film, which earned $73 million domestically throughout its entire run, according to Box Office Mojo.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” technically had already become the highest-grossing concert film in history thanks to fans worldwide grabbing up tickets before it even arrived in theaters, selling more than $100 million in advance ticket sales, Variety noted.
In August, Swift announced that the concert film was coming soon to theaters, calling the tour the “most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon.”
