Taylor Swift’s concert film “The Eras Tour” brought in $95-$97 million opening weekend, smashing prior records.

The production hit theaters on October 13 and, even before then, had been raking in cash, selling more than $100 million in advance tickets globally, per Axios. This set a record for any previous concert film, beating out “Woodstock” (1970), which currently holds the record with “an inflation-adjusted box office gross of more than $270 million,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

“The film’s debut is an undeniable tentpole-level success despite the challenges of predicting what it might achieve,” said Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at BoxOffice.com, NBC News reported. “Swift, her fans, and theatrical exhibition should all be celebrating the results.”

These numbers mean Swift’s project eclipsed Justin Beiber’s “Never Say Never” film release, which made $73 million in one weekend in 2011. Final numbers for the weekend will determine if “The Eras Tour” revenue will beat the current record for October, which is held by “The Joker” (2011). That film made $96.2 million on its opening weekend.

“As cautioned in recent weeks, forecasts were always going to be incredibly volatile given the highly unique nature of this release,” Robbins said. “Variables such as average ticket price, assessing how frontloaded Swift’s fan base would make the film’s presales, and whether or not any traditional marketing would bring out non-Swifties all weighed heavily on the wide range of possible outcomes.”

NBC noted that 60% of tickets for “The Eras Tour” were purchased in advance, representing a huge increase from the typical 40% seen in typical big-time releases.

The film is currently operating on a limited release schedule and is only offered for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday screenings. Variety reported that Swift’s marketing team wants the theater packed for all showings. They are also encouraging fans to dress up, and rather than staying quiet, they should sing, dance, and generally treat “The Eras Tour” movie like another version of Swift’s concert tour by the same name.

The Eras Tour could become the most lucrative concert run in American history.
