“This literally could be a matter of life and death,” said left-wing CNN Democrat Jake Tapper on Sunday’s State of the Union, suggesting that President Donald Trump’s recent moves to restrict entry foreigners’ entry to the United States from seven Muslim-majority states would place Somali lives in peril.
Speaking with Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), Tapper made his case against what he described as Trump’s “Muslim ban” while nebulously referring to “a lot of people.” He also noted the irrelevant fact that “none of the 9/11 hijackers” were originally from any of the seven Muslim-majority countries affected by Trump’s recent executive order:
“A lot of people think that this is just a smaller version of a Muslim ban, finding seven Muslim-majority countries – by the way, none of the 9/11 hijackers came from any of these seven countries – you know you have tens of thousands of Somali refugees and immigrants in Columbus, Ohio, who are literally crying this weekend because they’re not able to bring over their loved ones who are terrified of being killed by terrorists in Somalia. Is this consistent with American values?”
Tapper then used the image of of Somali “refugees” and “crying” Somali mothers as a political human shield:
“What are you gonna tell those Somali women who are trying to get their children to the United States who have just been told nobody from Somalia can come to this country for four months? This could literally be – I mean, I don’t want to be hysterical – but this literally could be a matter of life and death for these refugees.”
Tapper has never described left-wing or Democrat support for the admission of Muslims as a “matter of life or death” for Americans with respect to the related threat of Islamic terrorism.
When discussing policies related to the entry of foreigners as immigrants, refugees, or visitors, Tapper never acknowledges the relationship between Islamic terrorism and Muslims. At no point has Tapper ever examined how such policies should be calibrated towards serving America’s national interest.
Tapper presents himself as an objective, unbiased, and nonpartisan journalist.
