New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu said during an interview Thursday that he will make a decision about whether he is going to throw his hat in the ring for the 2024 Republican Party presidential nomination.

Sununu made the remarks during a Fox News interview on “America’s Newsroom” with co-anchors Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino. The interview was conducted right after Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis finished giving a speech in the state.

“What’s your assessment of the DeSantis campaign so far in New Hampshire, after they have spent two days in Iowa?” Perino asked.

“He understands the value of retail politics,” Sununu responded. “You saw it right there. I actually thought that was a pretty darn good speech. It’s not just about the woke stuff. It’s — he’s talking about fiscal discipline. He’s talking about doing things in Washington that folks haven’t gotten done.”

Sununu said that he is “probably going to decide” whether he will enter the 2024 Republican Party primary in the coming days and will look to “make a more public announcement in the next week.”

Sununu said that it doesn’t matter too much how many candidates decide to enter the race and that what ultimately matters is that they have the discipline to get out of the race before the Iowa caucuses if they are not polling well. “Come November, December of this year, if you’re not polling well, get your butt out of this race,” he said.

“Let’s narrow it down to a couple of candidates. That’s more fair to the process. And I think that’s going to be the discipline, not just for the candidates, but for the donor base,” he continued. “They have to tell their candidates to get out, right? And I think they will. This is not going to be [a] repeat of 2016.”

Sununu said that things change on a day-to-day basis that could factor into his decision-making about whether he will enter the race.

“Look, things change day by day,” he said. “I literally saw Donald Trump cozying up to Andrew Cuomo. I mean, Andrew Cuomo is the punchline to Republican jokes. Even Democrats don’t like Andrew Cuomo. And now Trump and Cuomo are best friends and all. And that is not the head of the Republican Party, guys. That is not a strong conservative message.”
