Like a virus that keeps resurfacing, the Clinton family just refuses to get out of politics.
No, it’s not Bill and Hillary. It’s daughter Chelsea, whose professional resume includes getting paid the astonishing sum of $500,000 by NBC News to act as a special correspondent (a job that didn’t last long) as well as working at her Mom and Dad’s foundation.
That’s about it, but that’s not stopping her from paving the way for a political career because she’s the famous daughter of an infamous couple. Chelsea Clinton’s Twitter feed indicates she’s fashioning herself as a political spokesman:
The New York Post reported in November that Chelsea was being “groomed” to run for Congress, possibly running against 79-year-old congresswoman Nita Lowey.
In February, the New York Daily News suggested she could challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for her New York Senate seat. A former aide to Hillary Clinton told The Hill, “She’s never denied that she has an interest in running for office, and that leads me to believe that one day she will. And she’d probably be successful.”
Although Chelsea Clinton’s chief of staff, Bari Lurie, insisted, “She is not running,” the Post reported that Clinton and other former First Daughter Caroline Kennedy might both jump into politics. A source who knew both the Clinton and Kennedy families told the Post, “What you’re witnessing is the beginning of Chelsea Clinton’s political career.”
