SHOWDOWN: Witches, Exorcists Will Go Toe-To-Toe Over Brett Kavanaugh

By  Emily Zanotti

A group of witches and an exorcist plan to go head-to-head this weekend over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh — and it’s not a Halloween prank.

A coven of witches local to the Brooklyn area plan to gather Saturday to put a “hex” on Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s most recent selection to the Supreme Court, casting a spell “all about causing suffering” on the Justice.

The “Antifa Wtiches” are being organized by Catland Books, a Brooklyn-based occult bookstore, and according to the event’s Facebook page, some one thousand witches and observers plan to attend the event Saturday evening. USA Today reports that the “witches” plan on using clipped fingernails, graveyard dirt, coffin parts, and — of course — effigies of Brett Kavanaugh to, apparently, punish the Justice for being the target of uncorroborated sexual assault allegations.

“Basically, it’s all about causing suffering,” Catland’s owner told Newsweek. “And we intend to make Kavanaugh suffer.”

The event’s Facebook page expands the scope of the event slightly:

“We are embracing witchcraft’s true roots as the magik of the poor, the downtrodden and disenfranchised and its history as often the only weapon, the only means of exacting justice available to those of us who have been wronged by men just like [Kavanaugh],” the page reads, adding that the witches will direct hexes at “all rapists and the patriarchy at large which emboldens, rewards and protects them.”

They plan to use the event to help “take back our country,” but the direct connection between casting a “hex” on Brett Kavanaugh and winning the November elections isn’t clear. Nevertheless, they’re persisting.

The event isn’t free. If you’re planning on hexing Kavanaugh, you’re expected to contribute $10. Half of the proceeds of the witch-led event will go (appropriately) to Planned Parenthood.

But Kavanaugh won’t be without his own spiritual army Saturday.

Father Gary Thomas, exorcist for the Diocese of San Jose, California, told Patheos that he is “appalled” at the effort to invoke demons in a political battle, and that he and other priests will be doing their best to protect Kavanaugh and battle the forces of evil they fear the “Antifa witches” will call forth.

“They [witches] are more confident that the general public will be more accepting of the demonic,” Fr. Thomas told the National Catholic Register. “This is a conjuring of evil – not about free speech. Conjuring up personified evil does not fall under free speech.”

“They are going to direct the evil to have a permanently adverse effect on the Supreme Court justice,” Fr. Thomas added. “The decision to do this against a Supreme Court justice is a heinous act and says a lot about the character of these people that should not be underestimated or dismissed. These are real evil people.”

To fight the effects, religious leaders are encouraging those who oppose the summoning of demons to pray and fast on Saturday.
