Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) loves to play the ultimate “guardian” of Israel when the cameras are rolling. But when it comes to party politics, Schumer’s self-proclaimed sacred duty takes a backseat to cold, hard cash.
The Democrats’ primary Senate super PAC, Senate Majority PAC, which works hand-in-glove with Schumer, is dropping an eye-watering $10 million into Michigan to boost leftist Israel-hating Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
The massive cash infusion comes despite Schumer’s famous March 2024 floor speech, where the top-ranking Jewish official broke out a Hebrew lesson to proclaim himself, because of his last name, a “shomer Yisroel.” Shomer is the Hebrew word for guard.
Guardian of whom?
El-Sayed’s track record has raised severe alarms among pro-Israel advocacy groups and Michigan’s Jewish community.
In an appearance on FOX 2 Detroit, El-Sayed flatly refused to consider returning more than $115,000 in campaign donations linked to high-ranking officials from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). The radical group was famously named an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation trial, the largest terror-financing prosecution in U.S. history. That led the FBI to sever ties with its leadership.
Rather than address CAIR’s historic ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, El-Sayed brushed off questions about the cash, claiming his opponent, Republican nominee Mike Rogers, was simply trying to spark a “culture war.”
El-Sayed was recently forced to issue an apology after attempting to offer “context” for a horrifying Hezbollah-inspired attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, where a driver plowed through the building and struck and injured a security guard.
“My comments might have been misconstrued to be justifying something I did not intend to justify,” El-Sayed stammered after facing immense backlash at the Michigan Democratic Party convention. “I’m really sorry.”
Rogers shredded the apology as nothing more than a political stunt to stem the bleeding among Jewish Democrats.
“When someone says you might have been offended by what I said, that’s not an apology,” Rogers told Fox & Friends. “He has a long history of antisemitic comments, inflammatory comments. He’s angry. He’s aggressive.”
El-Sayed’s campaign has also been dogged by his tight bond with radical Twitch streamer Hasan Piker. Piker has previously claimed “America deserved 9/11” and has openly praised terrorist groups like Hezbollah. Financial records even show an overlap between El-Sayed’s donors and supporters of pro-Hitler Instagram influencer Dan Bilzerian.
None of this radical baggage seems to bother Schumer.
This isn’t the first time the senior senator from New York has put party power over principle. Back in 2016, Schumer faced fierce protests outside his office after backing Keith Ellison for DNC Chairman, despite Ellison’s long record of attacking Israel and defending notorious antisemite Louis Farrakhan. Schumer similarly played politics with the fatal 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal, dragging his feet until the green light was guaranteed before staging a meaningless vote against it.
Schumer’s loyalty to his own people ends right where the campaign spending begins.
