A Pennsylvania school admitted on Monday that it allowed students to be surveyed by a “genderqueer witch” on sexual topics without parental permission after previously accusing parents of spreading “misinformation” about the initiative, according to documents shared with The Daily Wire.
The admission comes after concerns from parents in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District in southeastern Pennsylvania over Unionville High School bringing in Deni Tobin, the “genderqueer witch,” to speak to high school freshmen about the issue of dating violence last year. When first asked about the presentation — not only because of who delivered it, but also its content — parents were accused of spreading “misinformation.”
The school began investigating the presentation this year after local parent Chad Williams discovered that Tobin had also administered a sex-themed survey to the students. The surveys asked the students about their gender identity and whether they had ever “pressured” someone into a sexual act or whether someone had pressured them to do something sexual.
On Monday, Unionville High School Principal Amy Jenkins admitted the surveys, from the Chester County Crime Victims Center, had been administered without proper parental consent in a summary of her investigation, which was sent to Williams and shared with The Daily Wire.
In her letter, Jenkins said that she determined that district policy regarding the administration of surveys “was not followed and necessary parental notice should have been issued in advance of such surveys consistent with the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment.”
She said that teachers at the school had been reminded of all the requirements of district policy in relation to surveys. Jenkins also said that permission for CVC to conduct the surveys was granted by a previous principal who “is no longer with the School District.”
In a response to Jenkins, Williams asked whether there would be any disciplinary action taken over the surveys.
“Your letter does not include any discussion of any remedial or disciplinary action the District will take in connection with the serious violations of school policy, as well as state and federal law,” Williams wrote. “Am I to understand your letter as an admission that the District does not intend to take any disciplinary action in connection with multiple violations of law?”
Williams also asked about a claim from Jenkins that the surveys did not include any identifying information from the students, pointing out that other emails from teachers indicate that students were instructed to use the last four digits of their cell phone numbers for the survey.
The surveys were discovered while Williams prepared an educator misconduct complaint against District Superintendent John Sanville. He says the district has stonewalled his requests for full transparency.
Sanville’s wife commented “fake news” on a post from the Chester County Republican Party sharing The Daily Wire article detailing parental concerns about the dating violence presentation. She did not detail what aspect of the report was fake.
According to the district, the surveys were administered at the school as part of a grade nine health class from 2017-2023. The district no longer works with the CVC for either the presentations or the surveys, but has not disclosed the exact reason for the ending of the relationship.
Parents still have questions about the content of last year’s presentation and how Tobin was vetted. Tobin’s social media accounts are filled with both witch-themed and sexually explicit material — one picture features Tobin topless, showcasing that she had her breasts removed.
The school district did not respond to requests for comment.
