Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) called for Israel to stop its airstrikes against Hamas during an interview over the weekend after the Palestinian terrorist organization murdered more than 1,400 people in Israel last month.

Sanders made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union” while talking about the October 7 attack.

Sanders claimed that Israel was killing innocent civilians in Gaza despite the fact that Israel has urged Palestinians to evacuate the area for more than three weeks and Hamas uses civilians as human shields.

Sanders complained about the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who have been displaced from their homes but made no mention of the approximately 250,000 Israelis who have been displaced from their homes as a result of the terrorist attacks.

Speaking on Israel’s precision strike targeting terrorists, Sanders said Israel has to “stop the bombing now” and needed a new “strategy.”

Sanders was then asked about Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s (D-MI) recent anti-Semitic remarks, including her using the phrase “from the river to the sea,” which is widely recognized across the political spectrum as a genocidal call against Israel.

“From the river to the sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate,” Tlaib claimed. “My work and advocacy is always centered in justice and dignity for all people no matter faith or ethnicity.”

Sanders responded to Tlaib’s remarks by saying, “President Obama just said the other day, I think, quite correctly — and we all got to deal with it — this is an enormously complex issue. And slogans like the river to the sea, if that means the destruction of Israel, that’s not going to work. People who are saying, Israel, right or wrong, we’re for you all the way, that’s not going to work. This is a horrendously complex issue. You have got a right-wing government in Israel which is racist.”

Sanders said that the real outrage was that Republicans did not want to give aid to the Palestinians, which they’ve said they don’t want to do because there is evidence that it ends up going to Hamas.
