Sen. Patty Murray, the Democrats’ second in command in the Senate, didn’t have many reasons to smile yesterday, as her party caved on a three-day shutdown, and yesterday, she looked especially sour as she stood behind Sen. Chuck Schumer as he gave his shutdown concession speech.
When Rosie O’Donnell pointed out that Murray should try turning that frown upside down more often, Rosie’s typically-leftist allies turned against her in a Twitter-wide lecture session.
O’Donnell Tweeted, on Monday, asking who Murray was and suggesting that she was “always frowning.”

Little did O’Donnell know that asking a woman to “smile” is sexist, reinforces outdated gender stereotypes, and encourages women to hide their feelings beneath a veneer of traditional femininity — something leftists were quick to point out to O’Donnell.

Several Twitter users even suggested Rosie read an article from The Atlantic, explaining in great detail why women shouldn’t be required — or even requested — to smile.

O’Donnell was forced to apologize and explain herself, and the self-described political expert, who regularly takes on conservative commentators including The Daily Wire’s own Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro, admitted that she had no idea Patty Murray — a vocal member of the Democratic leadership — was a Senator.
