REPORT: Demoted DOJ Official’s Wife Worked For Fusion GPS During 2016 Election

The wife of a senior official at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) demoted last week worked for the opposition research firm Fusion GPS during the 2016 election.

Investigators for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) confirmed on Monday that Nellie H. Ohr, wife of Bruce G. Ohr, worked for Fusion GPS — the highly questionable research firm that produced the unverified Trump-Russia dossier, according to an exclusive report by Fox News.

Officials currently do not know if Mrs. Oher was involved in any way in the creation of the dossier, but the report from Fox News’ James Rosen noted that she “has written extensively on Russia-related subjects.”

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign paid for the dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele who was hired by Fusion GPS.

Fox News reports:

Fusion GPS has attracted scrutiny because Republican lawmakers have spent the better part of this year investigating whether the dossier, which was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee, served as the basis for the Justice Department and the FBI to obtain FISA surveillance last year on a Trump campaign adviser named Carter Page.

Mr. Ohr held the rank of associate deputy attorney general, a post that gave him an office four doors down from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The day before Fox News reported that Mr. Ohr held his secret meetings last year with the founder of Fusion GPS, Glenn Simpson, and with Christopher Steele, the former British spy who compiled the dossier, the Justice Department stripped Ohr of his deputy title and ousted him from his fourth floor office at the building that DOJ insiders call “Main Justice.”

Fusion GPS’s connections to members of the U.S. government and to Russians involved in the investigation into unproven collusion allegations between Trump campaign officials and Russians officials has raised more questions about the creation of the unverified dossier, which was the initial basis for the Trump-Russia “collusion” narrative.

In November, a report revealed that Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya — who met Donald Trump Jr. at Trump Tower in June 2016 at her request — met with Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson before and after her meeting with Trump Jr., a meeting that was used to suggest that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.

Adding to the suspicious nature of the meeting is how Veselnitskaya got into the United States to begin with, as the Daily Wire previously reported:

Veselnitskaya was cleared to enter the U.S. by the Obama administration under “extraordinary circumstances,” despite not having the proper visa to enter the country, according to The Hill.

This raises serious concerns about whether the Obama administration knew what Veselnitskaya was going to do during her stay inside the U.S. because of her ties to Fusion GPS and the Obama administration’s ties to the law firm that hired Fusion GPS.

Obama’s official campaign organization (OFA) has given nearly $1 million to the law firm that hired Fusion GPS on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC.

Fusion GPS has come under heightened scrutiny amid a growing number of allegations against it.

A Venezuelan journalist who criticized one of Fusion GPS’s clients claims that the firm ran a smear campaign against him — baselessly labeling him a “pedophile,” “extortionist,” and “drug trafficker.”

“I believe that Fusion GPS’s business is to do basically whatever the paymasters tell them to do,” Venezuelan journalist Alek Boyd told Fox News. “They are particularly good at spreading misinformation, disinformation, and smears.”

One of the most shocking allegations made against Fusion GPS came from a London-based banker who spearheaded the effort behind getting the Magnitsky Act enacted against the Russian government.

The banker, Bill Browder, pushed hard for the the Magnitsky Act — named after his attorney Sergei Magnitsky — who was imprisoned in Russia and died after being tortured.

Congress passed the Magnitsky Act in 2012 which “targets Russian human-rights abusers: It freezes their assets and deprives them of visas,” the National Review explains.

Browder claims that Fusion GPS might have assisted the Russian government in their efforts to have him “imprisoned or killed” as a result of the Magnitsky Act. It was discovered at the beginning of November that information Fusion GPS collected on Browder was shared directly with Yuri Chaika, Russia’s prosecutor general, The Daily Caller reported.

“If it is true that Glenn Simpson was supplying information about me to the Russian government, it’s far more serious than smear campaigning or Foreign Agents Registration Act violations,” Browder said. “It would mean that Simpson was assisting the Putin regime in their plot to get me back to Russia to have me imprisoned and killed.”

Fusion GPS was hired to research Browder by “a law firm representing Russian businessman Denis Katsyv — who faced penalties because of the Magnitsky Act.”
