Actress Reese Witherspoon just announced that she and her husband of 12 years, Jim Toth, are getting divorced.
The 47-year-old mom of three broke the news via her Instagram page on Friday, just days before the couple’s anniversary on Sunday.
“We have some personal news to share,” the couple’s joint statement said. “It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together. Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter.”
“These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time,” the statement continued.
Toth and Witherspoon have a ten-year-old son, Tennessee. The actress also shares two children, Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.
The couple married in Ojai in 2011, and Witherspoon raved about Toth being “a really good person.”
“He’s an incredible man, a wonderful organizer, a great leader. He knows how to get people together,” Witherspoon told People of Toth in 2020. “He’s very patient and funny with the kids. And he really encourages them to see the humor in life.”
Witherspoon and her ex Phillippe have applauded themselves on co-parenting since they split in 2008.

“We did a good job as co-parents, and I knew that we would even back when we were very young. We met at her 21st birthday party, and then she was with child, but – knowing how volatile Hollywood relationships can be – I knew that even if we didn’t make it, she would be a great person to raise kids with,” Phillippe said during a 2022 interview with The Guardian.
“I’ve never said a bad word about her or our past, and I never would. I respect and admire her, and we made some pretty great and beautiful kids,” he went on.
The pair made headlines in 2002 when Phillippe quipped that Witherspoon was more successful than him while they were presenting at the 74th Academy Awards.
“You make more than I do. Go ahead,” the actor said when his then-wife asked if she could read the winner.
