<p>Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is putting the lion&#8217;s share of blame for the thousands of monthly COVID-19 deaths squarely on Dr. Anthony Fauci over his bias toward vaccines versus therapeutics.</p>
<p>&#8220;I would venture to say that thousands of people die in our country every month now from COVID because [Fauci’s] deemphasized the idea that there are therapeutics,&#8221; Paul, who is also a doctor, said in an interview on the Ron Paul Liberty Report published Monday, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/rand-paul-thousands-monthly-covid-deaths-fauci-vaccine-bias">according</a> to Fox News.</p>
<p>&#8220;I think Fauci is of the philosophy that vaccines are incredibly successful and are the way to go versus therapeutics, for example. So with regard to AIDS, he was involved as the AIDS epidemic came up, he wanted to develop a vaccine,&#8221; said Paul, who has repeatedly clashed with Fauci in hearings on Capitol Hill. &#8220;There&#8217;s nothing wrong with that. He wanted to develop a vaccine. Vaccines can be great for polio or smallpox or wonderful. It didn&#8217;t actually work for AIDS.&#8221;</p>
<p>Paul has previously backed the use of monoclonal antibodies in treatment, saying they &#8220;are one of the most promising treatments for the virus&#8221; once a person has contracted COVID.</p>
<p>&#8220;Recent data showed that monoclonal antibody treatment cuts the risk of death and hospitalization by 70% in high-risk patients and reduces the chance of infection among a household by 80%,&#8221; Paul wrote in a September <a href="https://www.paul.senate.gov/lexington-herald-leader-op-ed-dr-rand-paul-monoclonal-antibodies-are-effective-tool-against-covid-19" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"><u>op-ed</u></a>. &#8220;Monoclonal antibodies have only just begun to be mentioned by the mainstream media, and misinformation still plagues government bureaucrats when discussing this scientifically-backed treatment.&#8221;</p>
<p>Fauci, an immunologist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who served on former President Donald Trump&#8217;s White House Coronavirus Task Force and is now President Joe Biden&#8217;s chief medical adviser on COVID-19, has come under fire of late. The 81-year-old doctor has been at the helm of handling the pandemic since its beginning, and some critics say he has not succeeded.</p>
<p>On Sunday, the top U.S. immunologist admitted the federal government failed to authorize and distribute at-home COVID tests in a timely way. In an <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/sunday-talk-shows/587330-fauci-on-lack-of-tests-during-holiday-season-weve-got-to-do-better">interview</a> with ABC&#8217;s Jonathan Karl, he said: &#8220;Obviously testing, Jon, is going to be very important, that we get a greater capability of testing particularly when the demand for testing is so high. We&#8217;re at a combination of the Omicron variant itself, as well as the holiday season where people want to get that extra level of assuredness that they&#8217;re protected even if you are vaccinated and boosted. &#8221;</p>
<p>He also came under fire on Monday when he suggested a federal requirement for vaccines on domestic flights. &#8220;That’s another incentive to get more people vaccinated,&#8221; he said during an appearance on <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/12/27/fauci-says-us-should-consider-vaccine-mandate-for-domestic-air-travel.html">MSNBC</a>. &#8220;If you want to do that with domestic flights, I think that’s something that seriously should be considered.&#8221;</p>
