Democrat Virginia Governor Ralph Northam pushed far-left gun control measures on Tuesday during a press conference in response to the Virginia Beach tragedy.
Northam, who supports late-term abortion and endorsed infanticide earlier this year, said that if his extreme measures “can save one life,” that “it is worth it.”
Northam tried to mask his agenda by referring to it as “common sense public safety laws.”
Northam called for banning semi-automatic firearms, referring to them as “assault weapons,” and called for the banning of suppressors.
Northam also called for red flag laws — which unconstitutionally allows law enforcement officials to confiscate firearms from individuals without the individual first being given their right to due process — and called for limiting the number of firearms a person can purchase to one per month. The Associated Press added:
In a statement, GOP Speaker Kirk Cox dismissed the governor’s call for a special session as “hasty and suspect when considered against the backdrop of the last few months” — a reference to the blackface photo scandal that nearly destroyed Northam’s career.
“We believe addressing gun violence starts with holding criminals accountable for their actions, not infringing on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” Cox said.
Northam gained notoriety earlier this year when he made pro-infanticide remarks that stunned the nation and ultimately led to blue and red states taking more extreme positions in the debate on abortion. Northam said:
This is why decisions such as this should be made by providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved. When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable. So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.
“This is pure infanticide. It’s also an argument for eugenic murder (see his comments about deformities). Northam is specifically talking about delivering an infant alive and then asking the mother whether the infant should live or not,” Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro wrote. “This is not an argument about the morning-after pill. It’s not an argument over whether a fetus feels pain. This is a statement that a fully-formed infant, born alive, ought to be murdered if the mother says the infant ought to be murdered. This is pure evil.”
Days later, Northam became engulfed in a racism scandal after a photo emerged from his yearbook page that showed a person wearing blackface and another person wearing a KKK outfit. Northam initially admitted to being in the photo and then later denied it once he realized that it could never be proven that he was in the photo. Northam later admitted that he wore blackface on other occasions.
Joining Northam at the press conference on Tuesday were Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and Attorney General Mark Herring — both Democrats — who, in the wake of Northam’s racism scandal, have respectively been accused of raping multiple women and have admitted to wearing blackface in the past.
