Authorities have arrested a pro-Palestinian protester who promoted pro-Hamas propaganda online for the death of 69-year-old Paul Kessler who was protesting in support of Israel.
The attack happened earlier this month in Thousands Oaks, California, following Hamas’ unprecedented terrorist attack against Israel on October 7 where 1,200 Israelis were murdered, thousands more were injured, and hundreds were taken hostage.
“On November 16, 2023, detectives from the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau contacted Loay Alnaji in the City of Moorpark and arrested him for the death of Paul Kessler,” according to a statement from the Ventura Country Sheriff’s Office. “Alnaji will be booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility for California Penal Code section 192(b) – involuntary manslaughter and his bail will be set at $1,000,000.”
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said that they were still looking to hear from anyone who may have seen the altercation that resulted in Kessler’s death.
The X page StopAntisemitism posted a video that they captured from Alnaji’s alleged Instagram account, which they said was “pro-Hamas.”

Dr. Christopher Young, the chief medical examiner for Ventura County, said at the press conference that a CT scan at the hospital found that Kessler sustained “intracranial injuries, which included swelling of the brain and hemorrhage surrounding the brain.”
“The autopsy demonstrated non-lethal injuries to the left side of Mr. Kessler’s face,” he said. “Additional injuries included injury to the back of the head, these injuries are consistent with and typical of injuries sustained from a fall. Internal injuries also are consistent with a fall which included skull fractures, swelling of the brain, and bruising to the brain.”

Young said that the injuries to the front of Kessler’s face were “consistent with a blow to the face,” which is separate from the injuries to the back of his head caused by him falling and hitting his head on the ground.
“The cause of death has been certified as blunt force head trauma, the manner of death is homicide,” Young said.
